Might fancy Italy again, more expensive than cross atlantic but very nice.....in the right places....bit colder in the Autumn though!

Deb who has gone to NY today is going to take photos of where my mom and family lived, just off central park, two blocks up from the Dekota buildings

I didnt have their address when I was there in 2005, so that will be good to see

Good morning all,

Hope you have had a nice night. Spell of nice weather seems to have broken and it is back to being cold!

Ohh all this talk of travel, I am very jealous! OH wants to travel o/c again but not until Gracie is a bit older so she will remember it. We have been trying to accumulate our annual leave to make it a bit easier, but I guess it will depends on what happens with our economy at the moment.

Glad I am not in the US, I can't believe they have dithered and argued, and affected so many things, but no long term conclusions.

Sylvia, it's hard to keep all of the rellies pacified, but you would be most welcome to stay with us! It sounds like a great trip anyway!

I would just like to share an experience with you, pertaining to drinking
and driving.

As you know, some of us have had brushes with the authorities on our way
home from the odd bash over the years...

Well I for one have done something about it: Last Saturday night I was out
for a few drinks and had way too much, knowing full well I was wasted, I did
something I've never done before: I took a bus home.

I arrived home safely and without incident which was a real surprise, as I
had never driven a bus before!! ;-)

Well have been reading the posts and catching up.

Do go to San Francisco, Gins it is a place I really love... cable cars, Monterey and the places Jonesey mentioned,,, got confused in Market street until a stranger came and told me I had the map the wrong way around.

Sylvia you mentioned LaTrobe - We spent hours and hours there by the water in the cold at this little lookout hoping to spot a platypus... didn't happen. We did see them the next year at Beauty Point... what fascinating little fellows and they were so comical.

Well I am off to do scrambled eggs for our tea, we had a late lunch out... OH would not be happy having to eat Sylvia's ... he has no imagination.

Persie

hi Persie

Actually, it was LaTrobe University that OH was at ........... then a very new place. I think that was different from the LaTrobe that you were at.

I am with you now Sylvia ... looked up La Trobe Uni.... mine was in Tassie.... more a uni of damp and cold from sitting around.

I think I mentioned on here how concerned we were with Anya... she turned 14 on Wednesday and had had a lot of time off school and the school was making noises about her doing another year.... Well we have just had her half year report and all the teachers have said how she has made a really good effort to catch up. She got 94% for English... she loves Maths so that subject took a bit of a drop but she is still above the median. She has done well in everything except Physical Education ... well that is hardly surprising with suffering with a sore stomach.... and Fans we have her on gluten free and she is much better. So fingers crossed because the medical profession couldn't come up with anything.

So pleased to hear that Anya is doing so well Persie - give her a big 'Well Done' from me !

It would have been awful for her to have to repeat the year - I think that sort of thing usually does a lot more harm than good !!!!!!

Persie!!!! :-D :-D :-D

I too was almost taken in by your story..........so early in the day though.

Lovely breakfast Sylvs but I may have to pull the doors to. There's a bit of a draught where I'm sitting. It's cool and cloudy today.

Usually I love the doors and windows open when the weather is good and, even in Winter, will always open them for a short space of time to allow fresh air in. Not particularly keen on air fresheners although my daughter loves the different fragrances you can buy. Fresh air is free!

Persephone

Persephone Report 5 Aug 2011 08:52

Thanks Dea, will do!!

My youngest is always opening windows etc and when she comes to our place, back go the curtains and she opens the French doors at the front and we can get up close and personal with the passers by. The bedroom they sleep in has french doors onto the back deck so they are open and the dining area also has french doors so it becomes a real open house. But it is nice in the summer, bit chilly in the winter but.

Just how many french doors does one house need!
