We have the funeral today of daughters fatherinlaw.

our grand daughter is staying at our place wiith aunty.

There was a wonderful book I used with my children called Badgers Parting Gifts.
Loosely based around wind in the willows characters it helps explain to toddlers about getting old and going through the long tunnel. His friends are sad but realise they all have memories of what he taught them.
Daughter found a copy and used it to help her explain.

What a long time between death and the funeral LK.... ours are usually within a few days. And had not heard of that children's book must check it out... sounds like a good one to have in my library of children's literature.

I was wondering whether the funeral had taken place LK. Hope it goes as well as can be expected.

The book sounds good for little ones to help them understand what is going on.

I always think it is good for the children to be involved as much as is reasonable because we can't shield them forever.

I took my children to an occasional funeral of people they knew only slightly in order to get them 'acclimatised' as it were and so, when the time came, they were able to go to their grandparents' funerals with an idea of what would happen. It seemed to stand them in good sense and gave them a sense of confidence.

The grandchildren have just called in after their holidays.......they bought new trainers with their spending money.....very sensible! We had a look at these wonders and admired them accordingly :-D

How come they never go home empty handed though???? Runner beans, Pringles and ice lollies...........grandchildren are not cheap but wouldn't have it anyother way :-D

Cracked it......just put it down to good detective work and that I had to go back to 2009 to suss it all out.

The fact that the OP has a different board name but uses her real name in some of her posts has not helped.

The fact that she has deleted several of her threads has not helped.

The fact that her original message to which this refers is over 7 years old has not helped.

But......I cracked it!

Much too convoluted to tax your poor little brains with ;-)

Now got halo polish down me nails......yuk!

I got a pm last week

"Please share your tree"

never seen the name before

at least she did say "Please"

................ so I answered "Why?"

Reply:- "In searches for xxxxx and yyyyy, your name continually shows. These names are of interest to me."

VERY unusual names, so I remembered them ............. from a thread I helped on 4 or 5 months ago!

It was a good send off and all went well.

I think it is a long wait because of the sheer volume of numbers in London.

Badger's Parting gifts is by Susan Varley.

Hi LK

glad to hear that it was a good send-off, and that things went as well as they can on such occasions.

Glad everything went well LK. I bet it's been a long day for everyone.

The ignition on my cooker has gorn again! Decided to have a stirfry for tea but I wanted hot plates.......so......I stood with my hip pressed against the cooker knob to keep it working whilst I was stirring.

Last night, it went off just before the food inside was cooked. Arrghhh. Found a short garden cane and wedged it between cooker and drawers opposite.

Necessity is definitely the mother of invention!! ;-)
