Cynthia

Cynthia Report 6 Aug 2011 09:14

If you look a few posts back Gins, you will see that the ignition switch has broken and the pilot light won't stay on. Something like that anyway.

I can use the hob and the grill though.

Just any excuse not to cook!! :-D :-D

Ah well, better get my shower before the day is over!

A cautionary tale perhaps for those who help others to find their living relatives:

Very unpleasant Jonesey.............

I am always extremely reluctant to help with searches for living people - It worries me that you do not know the 'real' circumstances, only what 'people' tell you.

These 'people' may be 'of unsound mind', or it might be that someone really needs to stay hidden, perhaps from a violent partner, or one who wishes to do them harm??

We just do not know, so I always stay well away from these requests.

Hi everyone, been trying to sort my photos out from last weeks wedding. Almost ready to upload to fb

I'm with you Dea. I do worry about trespassing into somebody else's life and feel that any site offering a living person search should have a duty of care to both parties. It is not enough just to facilitate requests for searches and allow strangers unrelated to the company to find the person being sought. There should be some sought of intermediatory service attached to such a facility.

GR must not be pleased with the publicity that has generated. I do hope that it does not create an influx of people searching for living people.

Well, it's quiet on here!

Stuck indoors as the rain is torrential, flood alerts and sever weather warnings.

Gins - I loved San Francisco, lovely place with a great atmosphere. As already said, the Big Sur, Monterey - all lovely. Two of my favourites were Santa Barbara and Carmel. Wasn't overly impressed with LA.

Cynthia

Cynthia Report 6 Aug 2011 14:23

Course it's quiet MC - we aren't stuck indoor with torrential rain :-D

That was not a pleasant story Jonesey. Is it worth putting the link on the Find Living rellies board?

Something else that shocked me too......

You read the Daily Mail.......... :-P

Back later ~~~~~~~~~ Starbucks here I come.

Jonesey Report 6 Aug 2011 15:28

I read the Daily Mail every morning Cyn. How else would I know how much the value of my house had gone up or down. :-P

MC,

I had forgotten Santa Barbara but you have brought back a memory.

My 17 year old daughter had decided not to accompany us on our trip to California and stayed behind to house sit for us. I suspect that her reason was her boyfriend ;-) My Santa Barbara memory is of my wife using a public telephone on the beach there calling our daughter to check that she was OK and then spending about 5 minutes explaining to her how to work the washing machine back home. Kids, who'd have them?

Jonesey with you living there I would have thought that it would be a listed building, with a plaque out front with hordes fans camped outside waiting for just a glimpse of the great one. With that status surely it puts a premium on the value of the property.

Its very warm and sunny here :-D

I dont fancy LA at all

Mr Jones, you have just gone down in my estimation! The Daily Fascist indeed :-P

The first time I went to the states was 30 years ago and we went to LA for a week followed by two weeks in Hawaii. We did the normal tourist things but we were staying in this grotty motel type place and had to get taxi's after the coach dropped us off as we were told not to walk in the non touristy areas also it was at the time of the Bobby Sands hunger strike thing and they hated the English.

We got this taxi one day nasty dirty looking hispanic driver and when asked for the fare which was 2.95$ ex gave him 3$...well this bloke screamed at us and threw the 5 cents at us calling us names and got out of his cab and watched us go to our room....which as it was in his view we walked straight pass and hid behind a wall until he went.

We had another 3 or 4 days in this place and hated every minute of it.

Went back to LA about 8 years ago but this time with a mate and her husband who came from there...must say it was much better

Wages are poor over in the US Ja...x and service workers rely on tips to live.

We caught a cab in NY (when the cabs dont run 4pm - 5pm) he stopped for us which is very unusual

He was an African American and he tought us so much about NY and where he came from during the 20min journey. We gave him $20 tip and he was almost in tears bless him

Jonesey

Jonesey Report 6 Aug 2011 16:49

Gin, sorry to disappoint but I find the Socialist Worker a bit heavy reading whilst eating my kedgeree, kippers and devilled kidney's ;-)

Jax, I can't exactly say that I am surprised that the taxi driver wasn't that pleased with his 5 cent tip. I always give at least 10 cents if the service has been good. ;-)

jax

jax Report 6 Aug 2011 17:02

You dont need to tell me about the tips Gins I do tip very well and have been to America about 10 times...this was a two minute journey with a rude nasty man who laughed at us and to his mates when we told him where we want to go....you pay for service we did not get it.

I spent the last 5 years of my working life on minium wage relying on tips but if I did'nt get a good tip or nothing at all I did'nt act asthough I was going to shoot them...you win some and lose some....I did very well out of that career, just dont tell the tax man

jax

jax Report 6 Aug 2011 17:07

He did'nt even give us a chance to say it was a tip...he just assumed it was, but as I said he did'nt want to do the journey as he knew it was not going to be worth his while
