Morning all....thanks for breakfast Sylv

I see the riots have spread more over night, how very frightening for the people who live there

Its also in Leeds on a small scale

Cynthia

Cynthia Report 9 Aug 2011 07:49

Thank Sylvs. Hope the physio goes ok.

What dreadful news to wake up to. It does sound very like the scenes from Vancouver which Sylvs described.

Apparently there are men in cars driving around directing youngsters as to which areas to go to next. Organised vandalism.

Mindless. Mindless. Mindless.

Gin,

Just spotted your comment about Mrs J causing the disturbance. Her singing is not great but I doubt that it would cause a riot.

From what I read (So believe about 50% of it) it looks like the motive appears to be linked more to boredom and greed than anything else. The mindless individuals who are perpetrating the wanton destruction of others peoples livelihoods seem more intent on acquiring items of value rather than challenging authority or fighting for a political cause. Setting fire to furniture shops and looting mobile phone shops and clothing stores is not how most revolutions begin.

Just dropping in for coffee, just been informed we are going to be short staffed again at worked today so I'm definitely going to need it. Deep joy, I don't think.

The rioting is scary, I hope they stop spreading. I feel for the people in those areas

I am ok.
A friend's practice in Catford has been wiped out.
He and OH did their early training together and when he bought his own place he got OH to staff it for him.
Daughter is going in to Brixton to work now.
It will probably happen again tonight.
Madness.

LK - so sorry to hear about your friend's business. Our daughter said that there were twitter reports last night about B'heath, but we did wonder if it was only rumours. She also said that B'water had shut early [its our local shopping centre ] where a number of her friends work.

We have just evacuated from our practice. Threw things into bags. So scared but can only wait. Opticians seem to be a target. Heard of several more today.

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 9 Aug 2011 17:52

oh lord LK

I hope that your evacuation turns out to not have been necessary.

Why on earth would opticians be a target?

My f-i-l was an optician and chemist ....... I can see where the drug store would have been attractive in this day and age, but opticians??????
