And I too agree with you Rose, I have tried to put my point of you but am not as good as putting my thoughts down on here as you are. Yes John can be aggravating and sometimes patronising but I have never seen him actually nasty unless goaded by some who will not let their bad feelings go. For goodness sake this is a chat board so, if you don't like what somebody says, ignore it and move on. I have only ever seen John be personal (once he learnt how the boards worked) when he has been pushed by the same people who are 'at' him again and again. Most of the time he puts up good threads only to have the same people turn them.

But constant stabbing is ruining many good threads and thats not fair on the thread originator.in this case Sue who I'm sure we all hold respect for.

Many belive their opinion the actions of the DR were stupid,arrogant,bullying and dammed right rude and much stronger.........another opinion didnt condem his actions with any force.,,,,,,,,,Just accept it.........agree to disagree but dont keep prodding on something that happened and has passed.

That is my opinion and it stands for anyone who I belive is being treated unfairly.

I did like this thread before it got so critical...
Living as an English woman here for all these years it made me laugh at the thoughts of some of the Welsh....the minority..... who are so unfriendly to the English...not as much as it used to be in and around Gwynedd in the 60s.
Why can't we all live in peace,and stop the backbiting.
At least this has brought a bit of life back to the boards and introduced a debatable subject.
I don't often take part in these when it gets nasty...but can't we all be friends with differences of opinion?It would be a dull world if we all thought the same. :-)

I also know you are not aware of 100% of the facts at that time so bringing it up in relation to John is totally irrelavant.

That too is my opinion & to be fair to John he is quite a skilled "button pusher", he gets a rise out of people & says himself he enjoys it.

So are you saying that it would be better if no one with a differing opinion spoke to him because it "turns" threads-I'm inclined to think John wouldnt like that, I'm sure he'll state quite clearly what he wants.

If the OP has a problem with any of my posts I am sure she will contact me. In the meantime I'm about on & off today so will continue to read & post when I want to.

Utter rubbish has and will continue to be posted on GR. It greatly depends on how one deals with it. But long drawn out vendettas are truly boring on what should, in essence, be an entertaining Chat board. My humble opinion, of course.

I did get a lot of stick over my views about the new layout when I first posted. Then I wrote some insensitive things about chat being a waste of time and banale, said I lived in Castell Coch (a beautiful castle at J32 M4) and was a baronet. Also I commented on child abuse (no never been abused) and feral & feckless people living on council estates (think I know quite a bit about that). And I also caused a row on Shaun's Welsh thread.

Some of that was, I would have thought, fairly obvious tongue in cheek. The rest I am sorry for and have apologised. And, yes, it was in August and I was a newbie.

But almost everything since has been true. I was brought up in Wolverhampton (Finchfield - posh) and Walsall (Leamore -largest council estate in W Midlands). I was in senior retail jobs after Bangor University. I am Welsh, so is wife and 2 children. None of us have ever though of ourselves as English, even when we lived in England. I did have major health problems 11 years ago and we live a very different life now. And I am a very keen churchgoer and have been for 30 years. And I have been a member of Plaid Cymru since 1966 (on and off) - but my beliefs are not that extreme.

I would want to spend a week in Eifionydd (Pwllheli) speaking 100% Welsh and no English at all. I used to do it for a week in Harlech every Coleg Harlech summer school in early and mid-1970's - there was a Welsh only rule that week. I try to do it if I attend the Eisteddfod. So I understand why Dr Lewis was upset that a Welsh speaking cashier and a Welsh speaking store manager refused to continue their Welsh discourse to the end of the transaction. Yes, I do sympathise quite a lot with his frustration. I wish all 3 had stood back and had a chuckle about it, but they didn't. Hence the article from the Cambrian News as OP which was a very poor precis of Dr Lewis's letter in Welsh to Y Cymro.

John, it wasn't aivlyS who posted the sympathy thread you referred to earlier, but another 'S' - and it was a jocular thread anyway. Sigh.

John I think some of us recognise when you are speaking tongue in cheek, you will have to devise a way of saying that you are 'joking' so others get the joke. As in life, some people are willing to 'forgive' transgressions, others will always remember them so you are on a hiding to nothing there.

Just persevere and hope that eventually things die down. :-)

Gwynne I agree with you every word, John has even admitted he wants people to hate him..HELLLLLLOOOOOO that to me says he takes whatever people say to him with a pinch of salt good or bad he is a self confessed wum and stirrer he loves the attention good or bad he doesnt care he lies through his nose knowing that people will pick up on what he has posted the day or hour before knowing he has contradicted himself he is soooooooo disppointed if you dont notice. The reason he behaves like this as he just doesnt take the site or anyone including the ones that rush to defend seriously and OH YES YOU ARE and the reason you al ldo is because dont want him to go away is because you will have nothing to read whilst having your morning coffee and toast ;-) you cant kid a kidder :-D
John in my honest opinion I can not hate you, you are not that important to me to express any sort of feelings good or bad to hate you isnt worth my energy......I can either ignore or be nice or not nice to you depending on my mood :-D

Well, knock me down with a Welsh cake! I never would have guessed this thread would have had soooooooooooooo many posts :-)

Some serious, some funny, some argumentative and some informative, not a bad mix.
I didn’t have to pick too many spat out dummies off the floor either.

So, what have we learnt? The majority view by a huge percentage regard Dr. Lewis’ actions to be beyond the pale. He also had the ability to turn a condemning OP for his actions into a ‘border skirmish’. Good eh? Now I have to say I am delighted that for once everyone could put their views across about the Welsh/English divide without too much pouring of boiling oil over the ramparts.

A few trebuchets were launched from each side, some certainly hit their targets.

Everyone is now aware that there are deeply entrenched Welsh areas and I will resist saying “told you so” however I was agog at some of anti English comments I found whilst researching at the beginning of this discussion. Totally unnecessary in my opinion because incomers could have been stopped (if that was desirable a couple of decades ago) by not selling to English buyers.

Equally appalled by some comments (not on here) re incomers developing little enclaves rather like ‘costa del pensioners’ areas in Spain, *shudders*. Although I haven’t seen any of these ‘little England’ areas myself.

Lampeter remains top of the flops for tourists, but there is really no need to go there when there are so many lovely places to visit as have been mentioned. That is the only place I would actually like to see declared as a country in its own right ;-)

The translation of popular songs caused a stir, perhaps people cannot tell the difference between a sheep and a goat…clue…intact male goats pee on themselves ;-) so just give them a sniff :-) the one you recoil from will be the goat.

Learn your geography! Now I fully admit mine is awful but I can tell the difference between somewhere in Wales and somewhere in England. Please don’t ask me about Scotland or N. Ireland cos I will have to phone a friend.

Don’t put too much personal info on GR, it only pushes our research buttons, well that’s why we joined isn’t it? and we are all up for a challenge ;-)

We have some very, very funny members on this thread who have shown their ability to dream up the most bizarre story lines, probably understood by 80% of GR but 1% of the general population. Does that say something about us?

I am saying nowt about the proper spats on here, what’s done is done and even if deleted is always there!

Meeting people from GR is an absolute pleasure. Also recognising that you may not like my friends and I may not like yours but we are adult enough to accept that situation and it’s not life or death and doesn’t affect our friendship in the least. True friends don’t always leap to your defence some actually tell you to shut up.

Lastly my friends, I am stuck in the house and do rely on GR as one form on entertainment, some think that sad but tough! There are quite a few of us and we enjoy all sorts of topics and yes the odd argument keeps us engaged. I don’t need to be goaded for my own good, neither does anyone else I have met.

So we could all say let’s wipe the slate clean BUT if I am goaded I do not click away I come back and load both barrels and I WILL ALWAYS BE GRUMPY.

Now I am off to look for the missing lacy red thongs

aiblyS just amuses me, MrD. In 5 months, all she has done is try to stick knife into me with abusive and snide comments. Even put her own thread up to assess her popularity a few months ago - which had quite a lot of nice posts.

She picks up her knife continually and sticks it in herself - like last night. I have seriously tried to find out why she posts like she does, but she refuses to engage in anything other than abuse. In fact, I am now able to write all her posts before she writes them, she is so VERY predictable. At least others are not getting too much stick from her at moment.

And BK, I have no real idea if some posters are ladies, gentlemen or whatever. If someone thinks they are important, more important or more worthy to post than others, I might just say something. And do I care if their friends come in to defend them - not a lot. Not a bit actually I have never put up any thread to try and assess my popularity ..... once again John you are lying and goading , I asked you months ago to leave me alone but you just wont , so don't bother acting the poor me .

Sues glad your feeling more like a ships gun than a pocket pistol...hope your back to normal real soon..... ;-)
