Very glad to hear that all went well, but when anything such as this happens we all must get on with our lives and have our quiet moments when we can.

Well I have Nort idea wot al da scribble id 'bout
Scott's so bludy hard to understand.

I once knew a Scott who could drink like a fish but not once could I under stand what he was saying> All I could do was shake my head and agree with him and to top it off he was married to an Aussie and had 6 kids and they too couldn't understand him.
That house was always full of laughter,but alas he died of alcoholic poisoning and smoking.

Well thank you for all the help - sounds a bit far out for me - it would be nice to have stayed nearer the centre so we could have walked in.

By the way Frank - did I tell you about my client who was in Glasgow & went to the two fat ladies - he said it was one of the best meals he had ever had.

Somewhere nice to take your OH for a romantic meal.

Robert how did you guess - you know a girls taste in hotels - try looking at St Martin's Lane in London - I can recommend Asia de Cuba if you have the cash, The food is some of the best I have ever tried. If i had a choice and the money I would stay at the Berkeley Hotel if I wanted to stay in London.

I have to admit I love the Country House hotels - went for a visit to Gravetye manor - it is amazing & going through a referb at the moment - Littlecote House is another worth the money. Wouldn't it be wonderful to afford to stay at these wonderful places.

I have a free night at Coworth Park to be used in April - just waiting for them to agree the date - dinner bed & breakfast - it will be nice to be post for once.

I have also won two free nights at a posh hotel in Portugal - only problem is - it is 90 mins from the airport - so will need a car, and the plane tickets & its nowhere near any restaurants so you will have to eat at the hotel, By the time you have paid the airfare, car hire & food you have spend nearly £750 for 2 days away the (£400 hotel room for 2 nights gets lost in all this)

We just can't afford it, I am trying to see if I can get it changed to a 2 night city break, this way I only pay for the air fare & we can find a local eatery cheaper. I may just be able to afford that.

Sue hope the journey wasn't too dreadful & your OH met you at the airport - its nice to be home.

One of these days we will all get to meet up together & enjoy a normal party - until then

I suggest a virtual party for the Royal Wedding - can we all agree to meet up somewhere & really enjoy ourselves & Reece may feel like joining us then as well. Just a little something for everyone to think about.

Thanks for the advice Tabitha, but when I go to London i stay at a Travelodge (bed £9 breakfast £6.50) even when the Company are paying for it)
Again you can take the boy out of Scotland but you can't Scotland out of the boy.

Nothing wrong with Travelodge Robert, we stayed at the one in Weymouth rather than stay with relatives, dont see the point in paying more than one has to, though we have never managed to get such a reasonable price as you .
The weather here is horrible at the moment, pouring with rain, good for the gardens but not good for going for a walk, however we can do that another day.
Ron has to see the eye specialist again on Tuesday, no doubt he will be given more drops, surprised he hasnt washed his eyes away as he has used so many bottles of them, as long as they help with the pain he wont complain.

Hi everyone, just been catching up with what everyone has been doing and it was nice to see Evelyn popping in for a moment.



I know what you mean by the Scottish accent Wayno. Sometimes, when Scots are interviewed on tv, I look at my OH and ask....."What did they say?" I do like it, but when the accent is very thick, it's really hard to understand.


Somehow, I really can't see our Robert leaving his cosy little shell even for the delights of NZ - he's much too settled where he is.


It's been very wet and windy here today - probably my fault because I had the car cleaned on Friday......lol


I am still having difficulties with my ISP - I am getting all sorts of notifications about my first order which was cancellled and nothing at all about the new order.....!! I hate phoning up as I am sent around the houses from this agent to that.....and most in India!


Had a lucky escape at lunch time when the tin with the roast chicken in it started to slip off the top of the cooker. I reached out to grab it and got hot fat all over my arm. Straight under the cold tap and then some burn cream and all is well.......whew.!

Do take care Cynthia, dont let the chicken get you. I have a chicken in the oven at the moment so will be cautious when taking it out to baste it and will learn from your experience.
My son has lived in Scotland for about 40 years and now has quite a Scottish accent, when we go to visit him and his wife it takes me a couple of days to get used to the accent though I almost need an interpreter to understand the real locals, I must add that they are all very nice people that we have met.

Hey Cynthia,

I'm presently with Virgin Broadband but looking to move ot BT soon as it's cheaper and includes free calls.

Last year we lost our broadband connection and after being assured by our Indian help center that there were no problems with the service, I assumed it to be our modem so popped out to buy a new one and just to be sure I bought a new cable.
Set it all up and............... no connection.

Back to India who suggested it was my BT phone provider's fault and that they should check my phone line ?


Hello.......... I'm on that same line phoning you in India. ....... didn't seem to make any impression.

Two days later online at my daughters, I discover that Virgin are indeed having problems in my area and are working on it ........... that took five days in total and their response when I contacted them?
I can't help you, phone the help line in India again............ aarrghhh !!!

By the way, I hate talking on a phone......... I just go blank.

Sue, what is the jet lag like from UK to Australia as I know when we come back from America we are drained for a couple of days so I can't imagine how bad it must be after 24 hours........
It's no problem going over there but the return journey is always just horrendous.

Just had our valentine's dinner......... a £20 three course meal from M&S along with a bottle of Macon Villages.

Very nice but I've earned it as I've spent the weekend emptying the bed room with a view to redecorating for the visit of our daughter, her husband and our grand daughter.
Keeping the furniture but new colour scheme as it was the kids' room before they left home and we reclaimed it . Isn't it lovely when you finally get the big room back.
Anyway that's the wardrobes and cupboards all decanted to our (large) hall just to seek out a new carpet and wallpaper and wait to see what our daughter thinks...........
We were at Ikea this morning getting high chairs and plug safety covers etc.
Don't you just love Ikea which forces you to walk all the way through the store before you can escape !
Mind you, they do have some nice stuff and very reasonable.

Wonder what's for afters........... :)

Robert - we always use travel lodges when we have to pay - but not as cheap as yours

We didn't do anything like that when ours came home for 5 weeks last year

Opened the sofa bed, put a second mattress on it, and that was it!



Mind you, kiddo wasn't moving around by himself, so we didn't have to child proof.


you know, if you make them too comfortable, they might stay longer! :)))

Ikea is the one place where our Frank has to stay on the straight and narrow as he follows those arrows around. Good thing too!


Arm is fine thanks....good job the sink was nearby. I've gone off cooking even more now!


We used to have a sofa bed for our visitors too Sylvia. Very easy to set up but not suitable for a long stay really.


Taking daughter to see consultant rheumatologist tomorrow. Let's see what he has to say about her aches and pains.

Sorry Cynthia, forgot all about you and your chicken .............scary stuff.

In future make sure the chicken is dead before putting it in a roasting tin, then it won't move about and jump off the cooker !! :))

Seriously though, be careful.

Sylvia, there is method in my maddness as when they have gone, we will be able to move back in and my OH will stop moaning about the state of the bedroom.

Anne, no Ikea in Brighton? ........... they are really good but like I said you are forced to follow a one way system through the whole store so there's no chance of missing anything.
Looking at their stuff online doesn't really do credit to the merchandise so it is well worth taking a morning to wander slowly round.

Can you tell that I'm henpecked...............

we really like Ikea!


The sofa bed that J&M slept on is an Ikea one ........ we took the mattress from another bed sofa (not an Ikea one), and added it to the Ikea one. It made it a lot more comfortable.



and when you get wise ................. there are short cuts you can take to avoid having to follow those arrows all the way round the store!


at least there are in the Ikea we go to.




I always like to have a look at the area that our store used to call Scramramadam .............. otherwise known as the sale area!



There was a time in the 80s, I think it was, when I wouldn't touch Ikea with the proverbial barge pole ................... they had been really good, but then non-visible areas (eg backs of drawers) suddenly seemed to be made out of cardboard. Very cheap looking, and not long-lasting.


Fortunately, they've improved a lot since then


and their children's section is wonderful! They have some of the most fantastic, well-designed well-made toys for the most reasonable price that I have seen for a long time!

Almost all our sheets and duvet covers are now from Ikea

IKEA sounds like a recorded message.

"start the car"advert.

I ventured to our massive location in the big smoke and was so disappointed with what was on offer I just went dry.
on leaving the rabbit waren store I just happen to look over and see about 20 plus people lined up with a heap of broken merchandise, asked one bloke what was the line up for and he said "oh that's the returns for replacements" and stated that the line was mild compared to some days.
Well that really topped it off, never to even look at the rubbish ever again.

They must have a massive recycling program in place.

Well it's Valentine's Day here and I just might take my Mrs to Mac Donalds or Kentucky Fried. nothing flash for this bloke, or i could get a take away and sit at a park bench near by!! or I could just forget about it full stop as I am a non believer in the whole setup.

Robert you can knock on my door any time as long as you bring a Stout with you.

Hi Everyone

Jet lag !! it has been terrible this time ,I still feel grogey.

I got in at 7pm Sat night so after the three hour drive to Busselton I got to bed at midnght slept antil 12 miday Sunday but when I tried to sleep last night I just could not drop off so I was awake most of last night .
Hopefully I can get it sorted tonight,it is usualy a four or five day thing .

Frank you are right flying to the Uk it was ok when I got there but coming home is totally different.

My holiday went well ,as I said the Funeral was a very sad affair,my Aunt and Uncle had a wonderfull marriage so devoted to one another he is so lost without her but he has a very large family that are taking wonderful care of him.

I have a truck load of washing waiting for me to start so I had better get to it,thankyou all for your kind thoughts and comments and I will be back on a bit later when my brain is working properly.

I also find jet lag is worse coming home, no matter whether we've been to the UK and Europe or Australia .......... that means for me it isn't the direction.

It's almost as hard for me to recover from flying home from J&M's, a 4 hour time change, as it is to recover from flying home from Europe, an 8-hour time change. They're the same direction, flying east to west.


some people say it is worse flying east to west, others that it is worse when flying west to east.


Personally ................ I think it's coming home!


When you are going away, you have different things to do, you have to try to fit everything in, you're excited ........ and I think this makes it easier to forget about the jet lag.

When you come home, you're getting back in to the old routine, mundane things to do, like the washing, ironong, cleaning the house, etc ................. and your body feels that you can relax much more

Well I better go back to work as its extra busy with late flower orders & the odd restaurant .

Valentines cards? You must be joking. OH is not of the romantic nature whatsoever...........well, he was when we were courting of course, but that soon wore off! I mean, why spend money on red roses when the car is due to be serviced..........see what I mean? lol


Actually, Wayne, I don't mind McD's occasionally. They do a good icecream and OH likes their milkshakes.


My arms is fine thanks Anne, am going to look at Lakeland to see if they have something which will help - I find my pans do slide around a bit on occasion.


I think the docs visit went okay. She goes back in 3 months and has to do more exercise with her leg muscles.


I phoned my ISP this morning and was told that my internet was to be reconnected at 6.30 this evening. I waited until 6.40 and tried but could only get my home page and couldn't do any searching or read my emails. Not sure what to do next. May try later or wait till tomorrow. Am back to using the dongle meantime!



A shame about the party but maybe when the weather is a bit better????
