The Old Man waves to all and is pleased to see that you are behaving.

Just got back from my cave in the Cairngorms where I was well fed on black pudding (from Stornoway), fruit pudding and haggis all washed down with a local single malt whisky.

Happy days!!

Cynthia

Cynthia Report 21 Jun 2011 18:59

Not too sure about your menu Robert, but it's good to know that you seem to have had a good time.

Stornoway! That's where we have been searching for Evelyn's mother! You didn't get a sighting of any records of her did you??

Good to have you back.

Looks like I am going to have to talk to myself again..... (sad face).

Have been quite busy but coping if you know what I mean. Nothing exciting, just trundling around Tesco's, cleaning bathroom and bedrooms and picking up grandchildren.

It's quite funny now that they are growing up. They sit in the car with their i-pod thingies singing away tunelessly to whatever it is they are listening to. Sometimes I manage a conversation with them but they seem quite happy bopping away in their seats :-D

We were told it was going to rain but I've managed to get loads of washing done (happy face).

Love to all. Cx.

Hi all

we came back a day early ... Monday instead of Tuesday. The weather was pretty bad, and it was chilly. We had the wood stove lit for a lot of the time!

OH picked up the computer from the computer hospital yesterday morning. They found a few nasties on it, cleaned them out, cleaned out some programmes that were no longer needed, installed a dvd player and burner .. and it seems to be working faster! Thye also installed a couple fo new things, and changed some things .... it's taking me some time to learn the new things!

Weather here is beautiful ............. sunny and hot!

Re the weekend, and the cabin

no invasions from pack rats .......................

............ no attempts by bears to get in the cabin, or to play football with the water collector

BUT

some 2-legged animals did get in

They left all doors wide open ........ it must have been quite recently as there were no sign of any animals having got in (ie, droppings or "nesting"), and no soaking from rain.

They left all the cupboard doors wide open, but didn't do any damage, or leave much of a mess around

And they chained up the farm gate after leaving

Very strange, and weird!

They stole, among other things:-

one Camp Lantern (Coleman white gas kind)
one 15 m extension cord
3 tarpaulins
6 floor runners (very cheap and on their last legs)
1 large plastic box containing among other things ............ 6 battery operated closet lights, 3 battery operated mosquito swatters, suede leather fire gauntlets (for loading wood into the wood stove) and 3 sun hats and 1 ball cap about to be thrown out.

We don't leave much of any value up there over winter!

We had to go to bed early on Friday night 'cos we had no lights

We then had to go back into town on Saturday (60 km each way), to report the break-in to the RCMP (ie, Mounties) ......... he had the same idea as me .................. it looked like someone trying to set up his own cabin or for camping

................ and we also had to buy replacement lantern, lights, tarp, mosquito swatters, etc

Not covered by insurance of course as the cabin is so remote that the cost is prohibitive

We had picked up our brand new generator in the town on the way out to the cabin, and had the trailer filled with boxes containing mattresses, sleeping bags, etc etc ........... and would normally leave those up for the summer

............ but they all came back home with us!!

OH was not too happy ........ he'd planned on also leaving the trailer up there, and on having some space in the basement here to sort out other stuff!

Ah well, it's the first major break-in since we bought the place in 1997.

Reece .... I hope you have recovered from the shock of the break-in at your neighbours.

Hi Everyone

The OH had the day off today so we went out to the forest for wood again just to keep the stocks up before it rains so much we can't go out there.

We did get a very good load again,a bit of rain but not to much.

Sylvia what a lot of rats steeling all your belongings,I would be furious but I guess if it is in the bush it would be very tempting to break into ,do the mounties keep a look out at all or is your cabin just there on it's own.
It really does spoil your holiday when people do these sort of things.

In Busselton there are some holiday homes that get broken into when there owners are back in Perth.

Evelyn we are all here for you when you are ready to check back in,are thoughts and prayers are with you both.

I am off for a nice bath for my sore bones.

Love to everyone

Welcome back Robert,I don't mind a good malt Whiskey but I don't know about the Haggis....but I have never tried it !!!..one day perhaps.

Hi Everyone ~~~~~~~~

Yoo hoo~~~~~~~

Hellooooo~~~~~~

Oh well, hope some of you manage to get back here soon.

It's actually quite chilly here and I am considering putting some silly stripey socks on cos my tooties are quite cold.

Friday is my chill out day - minimum of any housework, lunch out and lots of time to play around on my laptop.......love it!

OH has just sat through one of the Lord of the Rings films.....it was on for ages and ages and ages and ages........I'm not keen on that sort of film so I busied my self playing word games on the internet ;-)

Then we discovered that Wimbledon had taken over BBC1 - it's been a bit damp there, but it's not the same since Billy Jean King, Chris Evert, Evonne Goolagong etc were playing. As for John McEnroe....well, I think people who didn't even like tennis would watch when he was on court..lol

I saw Tracy Austin being interviewed last night and couldn't believe it! I remember her coming onto the courts with braces on her teeth. Doesn't seem that long ago either.........showing my age now ;-)

Have been looking for a decent builder in the area...the ones we always had have now retired and I am worried about cowboys and the like. When we had that bad weather at Christmas time, some of the pointing on the front of the house popped out so I guess it had better be seen to. Haven't a clue how much it will cost but had better get a couple of estimates.

Those new curtain may have to go on hold for a while :-(

Ah well, there are far worse things which could happen.

Hope to see some of your soon......Love. Cx.

Hi all
xxx

There were several very heavy showers this morning, then the sun came out!

That's April weather, not almost July!

Sue ...... we're isolated, the nearest cabin is probably about 10 km further down the gravel road that goes past our farm gate. Then there are about 30 cabins at the road's end, on the lake front. The Mounties do not patrol that far out of town.

We estimate that the maximum value of the stuff taken was $500 Can ........ so much of it was either cheap or old!

Not much left for them to take now!!

Take care everyone

Morning all

Gosh what news to come back to - Break-ins all over the place and the news from Evelyn. Can't believe it all - it was only a year ago we had the news from Reece. Such a sad thread again. :-0 My thoughts and prayers are with them both.

Well it was our anniversary yesterday 13 years since the big day. We just had a quite meal with the in-laws and drove home - back at work this morning.

Robert sounds like you had a wonderful time in your cave - I agree - not sure about the menu - really must try haggis one day - it always looks and smells nice - agree with the whisky - not the Black Pudding - I honestly cannot see me eating that. I do love Cranachan though and its a good time of year for it - nothing like Scottish raspberries.

Anyone heard from Frank or Josie - wonder how the move went.

Sylvia i think the two legged variety is a lot worse than the bears & rats - it sounds very remote your cabin. Funny hearing you talk about the mounties.

Well yesterday the sun shone (while we were stuck on the M25 for over an hours on our way home) now its very wet and rained once we arrived home - lucky enough we did not have any visitations while we were away - thank goodness. Feels more like Winter at the moment - what happened to our summer - have we moved seasons & joined Australia?

My desk is still in one piece at the office & nothing exciting seems to have happened here at all :-S

Working till 2 today - left OH sorting out the washing and airing cupbaord - I just need to do the ironing when I get home - we will need to do the shopping as fride very empty and a full working week for me. Wish the driving trade would pick up as OH more at home than i am. he hoovered the whole house for me just before we went on hols.

Hands up all those who hate going shopping. :-P

Cynthia take care with the builders - recommendations are the thing these days.

Well better go - not that is busy (won't shout too soon - will try & check back in later if i can.

Take care all <3

Hi Everyone

Sylvia I am glad you did not loose to much after all ,why do people do these sorts of thing anyway ...why don't they just go to work and earn the money to buy these things for them selves instead of stealing from others .
It makes me mad ,OZ is the same you cannot leave anything laying around otherwise people just help themselves,or just break in to your house.

We have had some lovely rain 50ml yesterday that should fill up the dams a bit.

Cynthia I am not into the Tennis much it tends to take over the channels here and all the shows we like to watch get taken off for Tennis ,I did not mind playing it mind you a few years ago...got quite good too but Arthritis in my foot stopped me from playing .
I just ride my bike now for exercise.

I am doing a pizza for dinner tonight nice and simple and no dishes after to wash.

Check in again tonight.

Love to everyone

FRANK06 Report 25 Jun 2011 11:14

Cheer up Anne,

You're getting a heatwave this weekend with 30c+ in London. :-D :-D

.................still raining up north. :-S

My wife is off to Tighnabruaich on the Waverley paddle steamer with my sisters and the chance of a sunny interval later on!!
I suffer badly from sea sickness so I declined the offer of a trip "Doon the water". It also rules out my wife's dream of a cruise. :-S :-S

I just posted about my 80 year old mother-in-law who called out Kirkcaldy council to uplift an old rabbit hutch and was charged £12.50 for the pleasure.
On enquiring about removing an old rocking chair, she has been quoted the new price of £25.00 so that the SNP run council can bask in the glory of their green credentials. This means that in the space of a few months, she would have paid £40.00 for a service she uses to avoid leaving anything out on the street when many people just dump what they don't want. The council will then charge to send out a truck to collect her chair then carry on clearing up the mess left by others.

She owns her own home and has a pension from her late husband and quite happily pays her way in life but what on earth do we pay all this council tax for and why should OAPs be charged ?? :-S

My wife told her to leave it until we get over and I'll soon make a big bonfire in the garden, global warming et all.

Rather messes up the green theory when so much is charged to ensure these credentials are in place that some people can't afford it and either dump it or burn it :-D

............rant over :-P

Just to make it interesting, she told my wife that a lovely young man had visited advising her that the gutters might require clearing and after a quick look with his "handy ladder" also informed her the roof looked in a bad way.
Her next door neighbour ensured that he made a speedy exit. ;-)

Come on Andy Murray.......... although I don't think he will get past the top three. :-D :-S
He dwells on lost points too much where as Federer and Nadal just get on with trying to win the next point. I also get annoyed with him when he publicly analyses his game, telling everyone where his problems were and what he will try to do to fix it.
The others just tell you it was a hard / good / indifferent display and go away to talk it out with their coaches so Andy........ shut up !

Oh Frank - do you really think he will miss out again

Nice to know people are looking out for the older population - cheeky whatnot - they try every way to con people these days

Thankfully we don't have that in our area at the moment - not enough older people.

Nice to see you back on the thread again

Its just dismall here now - rain has stopped - too may phone calls for me at the moment - interupts the family history work ha ha :-D ;-)

Will try and pop back in later today if I can

Take care all <3

Yes indeed,

It's nice to know that others are keeping their eyes open. My mother-in-law lives in a terrace house situated in a small cul-de-sac which is in a semi circle so everyone can see what's happening in everyone elses home and they all look out for each other. A ladder up to a roof is a dead give away that work is being done or something or someone needs checking out.
She has been well warned to keep her door chain firmly on, no matter how lovely the visitors are !

Too often you hear of people keeping their life savings under the bed and our local paper had one lady conned out of thousands that she kept hidden away.
Thankfully my mother-in-law does all her bank stuff online and keeps it nice and secure.

Raining again........... :-S :-( :-0

Lots of love and hugs to you Evelyn ((xx)). We're all thinking of you during these difficult days.

Robert, I watched some of the riots in Vancouver and thought of Sylvia....not that she was involved of course, but it was interesting to see the buildings etc.

Frank......what a good son in law you are. With those sort of prices for removing unwanted articles, it's little wonder that folk dump their mattresses etc. all over the place.

It's hot and stuffy here today..hopefully we will have a storm to clear the air.

As for those who prey on senior citizens......words fail me....make the most of that Frank ;-)

Hi all

Thinking of you Evelyn. Love and hugs for you (((xxx)))

Yep, that riot was quite a shock to Vancouverites, although I think a lot of people were half-expecting something to happen

and of course a lot of the ones who started actions (breaking windows, turning cars over, etc) were from the "black bandanna gang" ........... those who cause major trouble during the student protests in London, G20 in Toronto last year, etc.

The really nice thing is that other people were out on the streets by 4 or 5 am the next morning helping to clean up! I heard that about 10,000 ordinary civilians turned up during the Thursday to sweep up glass ........ many of them on their hands and knees picking splinters out of the cracks in the sidewalk.

Now THAT is Vancouver as I know it!

it's the daughter's 12th wedding anniversary today (26th)

Hi Everyone

Happy to see you on the thread Evelyn as everyone has already said we are all here for you always, thinking of you both.

We are waiting for a big storm to hit later today and into tomorrow it is supposed to be a bigy so I hope I am here tomorrow we do live on the coast so we tend to get the worst of it .
Still we need the rain but not everything that comes with it.

Son in Laws birthday today so we are visiting them tonight, don't like driving in bad conditions but we have to see him on his birthday he is such a nice man.

We went to visit our old neighbour yesterday her OH died just after my Anuty Pat,she found a few jobs for us to do,and we promised to go over more regular now she is getting used to being on her own ...she is a lovely lady.
Better get outside to stack all the chairs and things around the yard so they don't blow around everywhere.

Will check in later tonight .
Love to everyone .
