Susan Report 4 Feb 2015 14:47

Hi everyone

A bit hot here at the mo Anne so sticky and humid,I don't know if it is my age but I am feeling the heat the older I get,the poor air con is working flat out.

There are a lot of fires down South of us at the mo and it is spreading ,a lot of people have been told to leave their homes or stay and fight,my nephew is a firefighter he has been at it for a week now and more firefighters are coming over from the eastern states to help it is that bad.

Wa has had some terrible hot weather.

We finally got the 95 yr old MIL to get an air conditioner it goes in on Friday just in time for another wave of hot weather.

I hope you are all safe in your cold weather,it can be just as dangerous as the heat so all stay safe and indoors and warm,I for one am going to bed now but first I need another shower be fore I go to bed I really need a good nights sleep,27 c for tomorrow so trying to get things done outside before it heats up again.

Will drop in again tomorrow.

Love to you all <3 <3 <3.

Sally

Keep warm and hope you feel much better soon.

Have been busy with one of the cats - 3 visits in 3 days. She is apparently suffering from cystitis.

On Friday had urine and blood tests and now await full results.

She does not seem to suffer from the condition, but it needs to be addressed.

Snowdrop season in full season and as a Galanthophile am visiting gardens and buying new varities. Next weekend will be in Shaftesbury.

The Probate Research company contacted me to say that the Treasury had released money to my second cousin, the administrator and wondered if I had received any. I have had no contact with my cousin for a couple of months.
Was surprised that the money had been released when I am sure my cousing has not tracked all possible heirs - it involved descendants of German relatives born in the 1850's. The Probate Research company has solved all the issues.

Sum of money is not expected to be large, but the family history gained will be excellent.

Glad you are feeling better now - stay in the warm

Arthur

Well on to the Millionaire stakes now then (well the thought was there)

Sorry to hear one of the cats is ill -

Our snowdrops are out too - one of the few plants - planted by my mother that still comes up every year

Our new sofa has arrived & very nice it is too - we just miscalculated the back of it.

OH measured the old sofa - which we now know measured less across the back but the cushions stood out - which is the bit he measured. The thing is we have a very small space - & the cushions went over the woodwork by the side of the door.

When the new one arrived the back just touches it its about 2 inches too big - so it is just siting at a slight angle. We also didn't realise how high up in the air we were sitting - its a whole new view from that high up.

When the delivery men arrived Shadow vanished upstairs under the duvet for over an hour. Gave it a wide berth for 2 days - now he has claimed the 2nd seat as his own.

Saturday night - OH was in his recliner chair - i was on the sofa with Shadow on my lap & an A4 folder on the seat next to me. Bed time arrived but we were watching a programme. Shadow got up - looked at me Yawned a couple of times & jumped off. I went & fed him & he finished his supper & made to go upstairs - saw we were still sitting watching telly.

Walked in gave a couple of big Yowls & rushed out the door - came back jumped on the sofa & tried to squeeze down next to me but the book was in the way. so he wrigglesd & kicked & the book fell on the floor. he turned round a few times & curled up. Gave a couple of very loud Yawns & went to sleep. He refused to come to bed with us & was still there in the morning.

He has a routine now but we keep confusing him

Take care all

Vikki is proving to be a bit of a puzzle.

Her urine was stronger than normal, but had no infection. Her bloods showed a slighter higher liver count/

Vet said the fact she had blood in her urine was probably due to stress. I said this did not fit the fact that she was a very happy cat who demanded I tickle her tummy every morning.

Vet thought best course of action was to repeat the tests in 4 weeks time. In addition she should have a diet for cats with urinary problems. As she is overweight - not yet obese - the vet was going to call Hill's to see what is available.

No further news on our inheritance.

Glad Shadow is not stressed.

Arthur

So sorry to hear about Vicky - hope she gets better soon - she does not sound very stressed - its very upsetting when they are ill – perhaps she has eaten something that did not agree with her & given a kidney stone or something

I think Shadow is very far from Stressed - very laid back most of the time unless he is looking out the window & sees Magpies & Squirrels In his garden & he gets very stressed. For some reason he absolutely hates them - i wonder if they taunted him when he use to live under the lilac bush in the garden for a while.

We have always had a couple of Magpie families and a couple of squirrels who visit us. One of the squirrels has got very cheeky & sits on our other window sill , he then runs up the wall & sits on the satellite dish & swings on it upside down looking through the window at us. (don’t think Shadow has noticed)

The other day Shadow was squirming about on the desk by the windowl & crouching down wiggling his bottom waiting to pounce if the window was open & it
was next doors 3 legged cat (who is so sweet & friendly) Obviously Shadow didn’t think so as he wanted to chase him out of the garden.

Little devil

Talking about Shadow as usual - I was at home alone the other evening & head a noise by the side of the sofa - looked down & nothing - then heard a scratching noise bit loud for a mouse but not a cat type of scratching, sounded like something inside the sofa.

So i went to get a torch & shone it down the back of the sofa (didn’t want to move it just in case a mouse ran out) I saw a long black tail sticking out from under the new sofa - Shadow get out of there & I have never seen a cat press itself so thin – he wriggled out & shot off to his toys. I would never have believed it if I had not seen it myself. As the gap between the sofa & floor is very small.

When the OH came in he turned the sofa upside down to see if there was any damage & there is no cloth covering the bottom – like the old one – you can just see a cavern & the electrics for the recliner. It makes a sort of cat bed shape - Little monster obviously found it - curiosity & cats - we would not have noticed if i had not heard him.

Now we have yet another place to look if we lose him & will have to be careful when its switched on & in use so we don’t squash him

OH came home the other day – Shadow nowhere in sight - he checked all round the house twice & in all the normal places (it’s only a small house) - he eventually gave up & went to get changed - took the dirty things off to put in the linen basket & there was Shadow laying across the top fast asleep. Its not the most comfortable of places & its sort of barrel shaped on the lid & arched so not that easy to sleep on i would have thought.

Was surprised and delighted to get a call from the vet last night. She called at 20.15 and spent 15 minutes explaining what the Hill's specialist had said about stress.
very useful info and I will make some subtle changes to routine and hope that Vikki responds.

Any one watch the UK TV last night at 9pm

Two new ones & Mr Selfridge

Decided to Record Indian Summers as sounded more interesting - however after watching it - I am not so sure - i got a bit lost in it all

Casual Vacancy - gave a miss - but can download it - still not sure as I think JK Rowling should stay at Hogwarts & not play with the grownups from the reviews i read.

Would like to get some normal opinions if anyone has any

Would watch Indian Summers just for Julie Waters & India at any time, it sort of lost me somewhere after the first hours. But I loved a Far Pavilion too much, the beautiful views & old Indian palaces & Bhowani Junction with all the Sari's & views. Also Kenneth More in Northwest Frontier - the views were wonderful.

I still think the original KIM is one of my favourites with Errol Flynn I do like the Best Exotic Marigold Hotel (the book is rubbish) read it after I saw the film & wish i hadn’t . The cast is wonderful & they can all act (which makes a nice change these days) . I wish the cinema wasn’t so expensive as i would go & see the 2nd one of the Marigold Hotel – but will have to wait for Sky. OH hates it as he says there is no story & it’s not good for men - no action.

I too recorded Indian Summers and was glad I did. It is shown in such short bites between adverts that it is good to be able to fast forward.
Beautifully shot and I will be continuing. First episodes really only introduce the characters.

The JK Rowling based The Casual Vacancy left me puzzled and not really wanting to watch any more.

Am awaiting delivery of the special food for Vikki and hope it will help.

Tabitha Report 2 Mar 2015 13:20

Well done sally - it took me ages to get mine to that sort of year Wonderful - now you can go on & find the next 100 years

Arthur we need to give you a push

Have stopped mine for a couple of years as working on OH's as it keeps on going

Do you ever message people who have the same person in the tree on here or ancestry?

We had a very lucky break through - got in contact with someone on one of the sites who shared the same GGGGGGG grandfather he said he had heard from an Archivist & said would I like him to send me the details.

14 pages later I got to the end - Spent 2 days checking his against oar’s & it was the same line with extras.

We had been visiting Canterbury Record office every other week for over 2 years & got the main line back to 1610 and got stuck.

Suddenly we had a load more in just one night & rocketed that line back to 1066

I have been working on the other lines since (with the odd gap year ) i think sometimes it needs a year or 2 out to find new records on the systems.

I very much doubt we would be where we are now without the help

I was stuck on my Paternal great grandfather for many years (I never knew my father or his line) & through GR found a 2nd cousin who told me he had given a wrong name on his marriage certificate. For some reason he didn’t want to be traced – well it didn’t help me.

He had put down his father’s name was the same as his own when in fact it was Edward (the one i found a couple of years earlier )

Funny enough that line went to Kent to – so I started looking at mine as well while we were at the Record office.

Such a shame they closed it & moved to Maidstone - i use to love walking around Canterbury Cathedral & the people were so lovely more like friends.

Happy belated St David's day

Still enjoying 'Indian Summers', but found 'The Casual Vacancy' deeply unsatisfactory.

I understand the ending was changed as the JK Rowling ending was too downbeat - it must have been truly depressing.

Details were added on ancestry for my 8 x Gt Grandfather William Bonney and his wife Sarah Ellite.

Examination of the family trees revealed the following glaring anomalie - children born to William and Sarah before either of them was born. details of their children born after their marriage were 'correct'.

Have written to the tree owners for their comments !1

The Bonney line is interesting as they moved to Australia, but I would like to get further back on the Nicholls line.

It is frustrating that my ancestors who lived in Sudbury and were barge builders over at least 4 generations do not have a history that can be googled. Also there is no information on the barge building - what type of barge etc etc. I tried a charity that dealt with the river Stour, but no joy.

Hi everyone

ancestry trees really are not to be trusted!

Too many people are too eager just to copy from other trees without doing any checking of their own.

and those "green leaf tips" that Ancestry gives are no help at all in keeping trees accurate

In fact, ,many ancestry trees are no better than the "family relations" found on familysearch (the Mormon site)

A couple of years ago, I "found" my great aunt and her husband on someone else's tree on ancestry.

Yes, I had "Joan Smith and husband John" being born, raised and married in Lancashire, then emigrating to Newark, New Jersey.

Yes, he had ancestors of the same name and same history

The problem was ................. mine emigrated in 1902, his emigrated about 1830 :-D

According to his tree, his ancestor's children were now born to parents who were close to 100 years younger than them

I was lucky .............. I left a note in the Comments section of his tree, he read it and had removed my gr aunt and husband within 3 days.

Leaving the Comment where I did meant that anyone else looking at thta tree could see the problem!

He didn't apologise though :-(

Anne ............ you were lucky that the information sent by your distant relative was accurate!

OH's mother is Welsh, and one of his cousins told me that he had been working on one of the common lines for several years "until about 19 years ago".

Now, this guy is a trained historian, conducted research into the medieval era in the UK and France ..................... so I thought "woo hoo".

I had to prove to him that my research was accurate, and that I was serious about it before he would send me the pages of work :-S

I never accept anything at face value .............. so I started working back, starting with OH's mother etc

I went back about 4 generations, using my own research and every online record I could .............

........... I found errors in EVERY generation

I stopped at that point

G had got his research back to 1037 and the lords of Chirk

Most disappointing!

I agree completely that a lot of people just carry across details from Ancestry trees.

It is also true that some trees contain correct info mixed with wrong info and can help to extend your research. It is necessary to cross reference and verify before incorporating any info.

I shall be interested to learn from the 3 people I contacted why they had not seen the errors of birth. Maybe they will be too embarrassed.
