Sally very happy to hear your OH is home again,it is very scary not being able to breath,hope he makes a speedy recovery.

Turned very cold again here,the weather cannot make its mind up at present.

I am starting my tree again ,I have not done much of late on it,going to stick to one branch at a time I get less confused that way.

I am a bit like Sylvia and stick to the direct line then put in the Siblings as I find them

It is nice to see everyone comes back every now and then just to see what we are all doing .

Better get my housework done then off shopping to spend my Birthday money,I did rather well this year :-D

Another query from my Nicholls family. Would very much appreciate your thoughts.

Henry Nicholls (Can be spelt Nichols) my 2nd great grand uncle married to Elizabeth Blackshaw had a large number of children. They were from Sudbury, Suffolk.

On the 1841 Census the following are noted :

Henry Shipwright - the Nicholls family were barge builders
Eliza
Charles - also a shipwright
Emily
Alfred
Ann

There are then two entries that appear to be in the same household
William Lucock 12
Eliza Lucock 10

On the 1851 Census, Henry is shown with his wife Eliza, Eliza Lucock (Daughter) and Elizabeth Lucock (Granddaughter)

I am puzzled about the relationship between Henry Nicholls and Eliza Lucock. Could she have been adopted?

Sally glad to hear your OH is back home again - sorry you had so much hassle.

Just got back from a lovely birthday meal - we splashed out just this once.

Went to a lovely steak house around 13 miles out and it was worth every penny.

Cynthia please sit down - we have a week off and are doing a few day trips and resting.

I will have to go back to overtime once I get the all clear from the eye hospital on the 8th. My bank account needs help.

Could his first wife have died, and he re-married?

I can't find a death for William Lucock, Sr ........................ but it must be between 1831 and 1840

Similarly, all I can suggest for Elizabeth Nicholls death is that it must have been between the birth of Ann and 1840

What a difference when a 'professional' looks at the evidence compared with my amateur attempts.

Your findings make sense.and I am sure you are correct .

I had not considered that Eliza was not the same person as Elizabeth, wife of Henry Nichols. Names on Census do change to make tracing people more difficult or put doubt in your mind about validity of findings.

I do not have a death for Elizabeth Nicholls nee Blackshaw in my tree.

A problem with my tree at this time is the large numbers of siblings having large families. They tend to use family names, so a number of brothers will have a Joseph in their families after their father. Christenings are vital in allocating a child to the correct parents - fortunately christenings were the norm.
Killing off the Nicholls can be difficult as age and place of birth and death can be the same.

I have found a possible death for Elizabeth Nichols (nee Blackshaw). It occurred in Woodbridge in the fourth quarter. This would mean that Henry remarried very quickly after his wife's death assuming she died early October.

I am still looking for the death of William Lucock.

Re his re-marriage .............. it happened in May 1840, and that Elizabeth you've found did not die until October-December 1840 ...................... so probably / possibly not her?

Hi Everyone

Another beautiful day today ,a bit of rain later and tomorrow but I do not mind as getting gardens ready for Summer ...it all helps with the water .

My tree is coming along very nice ,a few brick walls down that is always good .

Anne we used to have a great steak house here but it closed down ,always did a great meal,glad to hear you are having a week off.

Oh gone out with the Son this morning so a bit of peace and I had the chance to read the Newspaper all to myself :-D

Should not trust to memory before making an entry. Thought the marriage was November.

Would it be appropriate to ask on another board if someone is going to the Suffolk Registery Office if they could look for the deaths of William Lucock and Elizabeth Nichol(l)s? There are a lot of people with those names listed on Ancestry, in Select Deaths and Burials, but no details.

I live alittle too far from the nearest office, although I hope to make a trip sometime during the winter, with carefully prepared queries.

we're into Fall here ................


Summer officially ended at 7:29 pm (precisely!!) on Monday evening


the first Pacific storm of the Fall season arrived on Tuesday afternoon :-(


I had to go and find out a lightweight winter turtleneck sweater on Wednesday ........... I think I'll be doing the change over from summer to winter clothes this weekend :-)

We might have a short return to warmer temperatures over the weekend ...... so I'll keep a couple of summer tops available :-)



Not sure whether I posted this ................. I've now booked our complete trip over Christmas. We're going to the daughter's, and as usual we are going both ways by train, but we will stay in a hotel over there, their house is just getting too crowded and her husband gets really upset with too many people around.

The trip over has cost me nothing :-) .................... we had collected enough points with the train company over our previous trips to do it all on points. AND they don't charge any extra for taxes, insurance etc etc, as do the airline companies with their loyalty points.

Last week I booked the train trip home ............. had to pay for that one though :-( :-)

Well Autumn is here - it’s raining hard today & chilly

Shadow hates it & has gone into hibernation under the quilt

Came home the other day to find he had made himself a very cozy nest in the middle of my pillow - little devil. He had pulled down the sheet & the cat cover & made a nice little bed for himself. He didn't bother to make the bed again though. he even took a couple of toys to bed with him too as i found a catnip mouse under the cover & two squidgy balls by the pillow.

He likes playing with OH's slippers & keeps hiding the toys in them. then he sits by them & paws at them till you remove the toys & play with him. if you don’t play with him he sits on HIS cushion (which i bought for me) lovely bright pink one, and turns his back on you for the evening.

i obviously upset him yesterday as he sat on John all evening and really burrowed himself down on his lap & hid his head between him & the chair. Covered his nose with his paw & snored

He is such a little terror but you do have to smile & he really is very loveable. i really think he was sent to us to cheer us up.

He has taken a likening to our wallpaper - or he thinks we should redecorate.

For an 11 year old cat he has a lot of life in him still - too much sometimes - i had to jump on the sofa the other day as he was tearing around the room with his 3 squidgy balls at a rate of knots & didn't knock anything over (except a near miss with me) and a several claw marks in the TV guide that was on the floor when he flew past and tried to get leverage with his claws rather than slide all over on it.

Yesterday he hit the guide glossy side up at speed & slid across the floor on it - when it stopped he looked very confused & kept poking at it to see if it would do it again.


Oh well back to work

Love hearing about Shadow.

I collected my two from the cattery where they were for 5 days while I enjoyed a weekend in Scotland - it was under cover!!

The owner said they were a great advertisement for his cattery as they entertained all the other owners. Whenever they saw anybody they rolled on their back or climbed the glass, often their moves were synchronised. This happened when nearly every other cat was snuggled down in the warmth of the hutch. You could not but laugh at their antics.

They will be returning in November when I go for a short break in Corfu and again in December when I spend Xmas in Spain.
