HI everyone

Anne our cricket team did not perform at all well ,most Aussies hate to lose but this time we did not deserve to win.

I don't know why we continue with Johnson he is just plain embarrassing to watch.

I was so pleased to hear about your friend being reunited with his family,I love those stories they make me cry......good work.

The weather here is terrible ..so cold I expect snow but it never will only in the eastern states does it snow.

Cynthia that is wonderful news re your OH and yourself ...I must also get on a fitness plan ...over winter I tend to put on a bit around the middle .

Thankyou all for your kind word ,we are all getting back to normal ,I think Vanessa the mother will now have some kind of life to live after being a full time nurse to her Dau for 22 years ,she has been wonderful now it is her time .

Going shopping today so will be back later.....my bike needs a good workout :-D

hI everyone

What a weekend we have just had.

Saturday night at about 12.30 some bright spark thought it would be funny to set the MILaws back patio on fire .

They soaked a towel in petrol and put it on her outside table (plastic) under her patio ,then set it on fire .
She was asleep in bed at the time ,if it was not for her dog barking to wake her up she would have died and the house would have burnt down.

She rang us and we got out of bed and raced over but she had already put out the fire with the garden hose...not bad for a 92 yr old is it .

We called the police who were there in 10 minutes finally got to bed at 3.30.
She is very shaken up but won't let this drive her into a nursing home.

I don't see what people get out of this kind of thing ,just wait and see what the Police come up with now I suppose.

Hope everyone is well...cold wet and windy here in OZ...we are enjoying the Tour De France very much, just a few to many late nights though, I suppose the Olympics will do the same ....big time difference for us .

Having a look around the boards for a while before I have to get dinner going.

Love to you all <3 <3 <3

Sue

Words fail me. What an appalling thing to do and to a 92 year old.

Is this the first time anything like this has happened in the area?

Is her house remote? i would like to think that neighbours would have come to the rescue if she hadn't had the hose handy.

It beggars belief

Susan

Susan Report 16 Jul 2012 13:20

Hi Arthur.

No she does not live remote... she is in a street like any other.

The neighbours did not hear a thing, but they did tell of a person who they think maybe responsible.
She also had a dead headless cat thrown over her back fence.... again the same person may have done that too ,there houses are back to back with each other.
I am told he is a schizophrenic, hope that is how you psell it .

I think it may be because she is on her own but she does get lots of visitors and the word is out that we think it was him so it may put him off trying it again.

The world has gone mad .

Sue what an awful thing to happen - I am on the same wave length as Arthur - Did the neighbours help out? good on her - having a go at her age - hope the dog got an extra large treat.

Is it a trend in the area? Sounds like your teenages dont know what to do with themselves either - at least ours dont seem to go around setting fire to peoples property.

The ones in our neighbour hood just seem to throw things at empty building, breaking windows and behave stupidly inside. They haven't set anything on Fire thankfully, they tend to just stand on street corners looking menacing - However I have been told the ones on our corner are just fed up with nowhere to go and no trouble.

Touch wood they have been fine - I do feel sorry for some of the lads as there is nothing near us and if they dont have the money its a very long walk into town & even longer back up 3 steep hills home. We are campaigning for a youth club for the teens. We don't have anywhere now for them to just kick a ball around - as the area is being developed for more flats. They use to use the old disused hospital carpark behind us - they spent hours playing football or playing music & just huddling about - no trouble - now its a building site.

We had a big meeting a few weeks ago to discuss our worries about more teens arriving in the area - or it turning into a drug haven - the PCO's are also very worried as the new building site backs straight on to our gardens - so we wanted to make sure there was going to be a high fence.

According to the building firm a 5ft Wooden slatted fence is adequate - should have heared the neighbours & PCO's - we have over 6ft high fencing now with barbed wire on the top - Ah well thats to keep undesirables out of the building site - exactly - we said we want to keep even more undesirables out of our gardens.

The end resut is - no barbed wire - they also wouldn't let us electrify it either.

However we are going to have 7ft high reinforced wire fencing - with bushes (hopefully with thorns on them)- then a 5ft wooden fence between us & the flats, playground, meeting area & car park. We asked for a night watch person but they wont pay for it. That is we should get this & hopefully i have been co opted on to the committee now.

The building is getting higher & looming over our house and seems to be getting nearer by the day. I think we will lose the winter sun from our lounge - but according to the builders we are not going to lose any light - well we think they are wrong - but its too late now.

Oh - well moan over - must go back to work

Sue hope MIL is getting over the shock now and not too worried about being in her house alone - thnak goodness she is still very sprightly

Take care all <3 <3 <3

Susan Report 16 Jul 2012 14:48

Thankyou anne ,it sounds like you feel as if you have to fence yourself in as well.

What happened to MIL is very unusual for our little town ,that sort of thing you hear about in a big city like Perth , it does happen and people die from this sort of thing.

I took her shopping today that made her happy,I also stayed for lunch when we got back to her place ...she loves to fuss.

Watching the Tour De France at the moment.

Hi all

daughtr and family are now here, but they're all having a nap at the mment!

4 hours time difference does make it difficult to adjust quickly ........ although tiddlie adjusted better than his parents. Still he always takes a nap of about 1-2 hours in the early afternoon.

Sue ....... that is terrible. I'm so glad that the dog wakened your MiL and that she is OK.

We do have the arsonist problem in Vancouver ................. someone loves to set garages alight, or put a march to cardboard or flammable things in open carports. It can be very dangerous if not spotted soon enough and gets to the house siding.

We get warnings every now and again to make sure that we do not store flammable objects (aka "junk") in garages and carports.

Fortunately, neighbours have all been helping each other when the fires have happened.

Hope the police get the guy who's doing it, and put him away ........... even if it is the schizophrenic guy. He needs treatment.

Take care everyone.

I'll look in again when I can.

Cynthia Report 17 Jul 2012 14:00

Oh Sue, that's a terrible thing to happen. I hope the neighbours have given the name of whom they suspect to the police so that it can be looked into. The way she reacted is pretty good for a 92 year old.....she deserves a medal!

Sylvia sounds as though she's having fun.......... :-D Hope she's moved her 'valuables' out of Tiddler's way ;-)

It's been quite an expensive week for us.......we have bought an adjustable bed for OH and then, today, we bought him a dual motor recliner. Not easy decisions but we want him to remain as independent as possible for as long as possible. Baked beans on toast for a while methinks! :-D

Grandchildren finish school on Friday but, as they are now so grownup, I don't think I will be needed very much......time moves on.....sigh.

Got to go and pick them up soon - haven't seen them for a couple of week so I guess they have grown some more!!!

Love to all. Take care. Cx <3

Hello All My Dear Friends,
See I am still alive.
My son and daughter in law have now returned home, they decorated my living room while they were here and it looks nice and fresh, not much different as I chose the same colours again.
Next week I am going to England to celebrate my 80th birthday, I shall be staying with Claire and Jonathan ( daughter and son in law ) Margaret and Leslie are going to motor down from Scotland to join us for the big day.
I have signed up with Skype so you can get in touch with me if you have a wireless connection.
Ian ( my brother ) is still hanging on and has been out with his family on a few trips, at least it shows he still has some interest in living.
Take care everyone, I think of you often
Love to you all

Hi Everyone

Anne that party sounds great, just what we all need me thinks.

I had another chat with the Police yesterday...they are treating the fire as an arson crime and they will get the person that did they say.

This only a small country town so this sort of thing does not happen all the time ...give the Police something to do.

Evelyn it is very nice to see you back again...I hope your 80th goes off great and you all have a wonderful family get together.

I am off shopping now so will have to check in later.

love to everyone

Ok - Sue its your thread - when do you want to set up the Virtual Party

Sally I too am fed up with all the Olympics - advert upon advert - feel free to add your suggestions .

Lovely to see you pop in Robert - your little shell must be waterlogged
Hope your wife will feel up to join you at the party

Arthur - you must wonder what kind of group we are - all suggestions welcome

Looks like we are all up for a party again - I think it will do us all good

Evelyn - please join in - I think it will do you good - remember the last one

Reece too if you can stop packing for a few mins

For the benefit of those new to this.

The weather is always amazing - so new clothes are a must

We decide where to hold the Virtual party - who is going to host it - What we are celebrating - everyone decides how they are going to get to the party (any form of transport you would like - time machine not allowed )

Who is going to provide the music & what you would like to bring with you - you know favourite dishes you can make etc - Not sure about party games this time

Then we all turn up & enjoy ourselves at various times of the day in our various time zones.

Cynthia - are you going to join in?

Sue all over to you -

Take care all ;-) <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 ;-)

Anne That sounds good to me.

Maybe we can make it an olympic theme, opening ceremony night perhaps.

Anyone else got any ideas.

Lots of safety things for MIL at the moment ,she is getting Medic Alert, she has to keep that with her and she just presses a button and it calls probably us then her second chose .
We shall have the Police as one I think there are two more numbers she can put into it.
More outside sensor lights ,if anyone goes into her yard now at night it will light up like a Christmas tree.

Better get back to the bike races... it is getting very interesting now.

You are a kind generous group of people who started with a common interest and expanded into a group of friends offering advice and support when necessary.

Hello friends,

Yes, indeed, count me in - just what I need to cheer me up!

My move to Dorset has been delayed to early December because of the bad weather! The builders have not been able to get on with the work as they are using two huge cranes on the site, which is only 20 minutes by car from the coast!

Lovely to hear from Evelyn and Robert.

Sorry to learn about your MIL Susan, it must have been a dreadful shock for all of you but good to know that she is coping well with it.

Will try to get back more often - the pressure is off now with the delay - still sorting through our treasured memories though.

Love to you all

Sue - how about Saturday 28th instead - that way we all have a chance to prepare

Olympic theme sounds cool - next thing to do is decide where its going to be - I vote London out as its far too busy - even for a virtual party.

Arthur - bless you - just when I needed cheering up myself.

I think this is what we all need - between us we have all been through the mill one way & another.

Next - more ideas - food - music - entertainment? Lets get the party ideas flowing and get this on the road.

Cynthia - dont faint - I booked myself an afternoon off

Will pop back in again later

Take care all <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3
