i am getting very miffed with the tv allthis sport is not on they keep takeing my favourite progs off got settled to eatch the lottery and casualty but no taken off for tennis i whish they realised that not every one likes it

why dot use the other channels there is plenty of them ...........rant over :-)

congrats cynthia mine will be 48 years later on

i have seen to hastings i had an aunt that lived near by over 30 years ago now

our water is horrible we use bottled water for squash etc it has clhorine in it

we had a lot of sun black clouds but no rain today

It'll be our 45th in August .......... some times I wonder how either of us is still alive :-D



It has been "steady rain" here today, and muggy, even though the temperature has only been around 15 or 16C


Tomorrow is Canada Day


July 1st is Canada's 145th Birthday ................... festivities, parades, fireworks, etc etc.

The Baptist Church across the street has put out strings or red and white banners.


We stay home, quietly ............ neither of us is very good in big crowds.



But here is a bit of a teaser for you, just for Canada Day ................


Did you know the following foods were invented or discovered in Canada???


1. Ginger Ale ......... This was originally invented in Ireland, but a Canadian made changes to the recipe in 1907, to produce Canada Dry Ginger

2. Instant Mashed Potatoes ............ invented in 1962, as a means of feeding the military and starving people

3. McIntosh Apples ......... 20 trees discovered on his property by John McIntosh in 1811

4. Pablum ............. this baby food was developed in 1931. It is a combination of fortified dried wheat, corn, bonemeal, and oatmeal.

5. Poutine ............. a French-Canadian favourite. French fries (chips) with gravy and cheese curds on top.

6. Processed cheese ............ Kraft cheese slices were developed in 1916. J L Kraft was a Canadian who emigrated to the US, then invented a way to preserve cheese.

7. Yukon Gold Potatoes ............. a cross between 2 kinda of potaotes made in Guelph Ontario

8. Canola oil ............. developed in the early 1970s as a means of using rapeseed oil for human consumption.

Hi Everyone

Thankyou all for your input re the Water thingy..

We have a lot of chlorine in our water ,I will try the jug in the fridge thing but i can't see it taking it all out anyway for the time being we are drinking very nice rainwater ...until summer hits us of course and the rain stops.

I suppose it will be bottled water from then on ...so a lot more plastic around the place ,that is going to help the environment isn't it.

Robert so nice to see you back,you sound chirpy so all is well I hope with your dear Wife.


Cynthia I love your wedding photo...43 years coming up for us this year Nov 15Th.

We got the MIL a new TV yesterday HD,it took a while to convince her she needed one but as soon as she noticed the Cricket on in the UK and her TV could not get the new channels she agreed.

She was so surprised how easy it was to set up now I have to list all the channels and number them .
I will teach her a bit at a time ...she will get it in no time .

OH cooking his own bacon and Eggs better go and check him.

Yes things have improved considerably - I am not doing the ironing anymore!!!

Only one or two minor problems remaining but nothing serious.

Thank you for the good wishes - we didn't go out for a celebratory meal but went to our usual Friday lunch at church.


We're fed up with all the sport too Sally :-( It's goning to get worse with all the Olympic stuff..... :-( :-( I much prefer murder and detective films than sport :-D

A happy Canada Day to all my Canadian friends and family.

If you are looking for a challenge :-) look at nmy thread "Henry Field Horsey" on the Finding Ancestors board.

Lots of info - including some new to me, but the mystery of 'Addie' is still with me.

Why did 'Addie' - I believe to be Adelaide Pollard - say married 41 years on the 1911 Census. She is not on the 1871 Census where husband Henry field horsey is shown as a widower, nor on the 1881 Census where he is again shown as a widower.

Really would like to find his marriage to her and also her death - suggested to be between 1911 and 1919.

Hi Everyone, just to let you know I am still alive

A little shaken but not stirred :-D

The 7 earthquake was 260 km deep and we sustained no damage in Wellington. A couple of small carved wooden Giraffes fell of one of my shelves and a few pictures are askew but that's all .

Am off to bed now,did not want anyone to worry when you hear the news.

Cloud - sunshine - warm & humid - cloud - loads of rain - sunshine - humid - slight drizzle - sunshine - bucketing down (just got drenched look like an old english sheepdog caught out in the rain) brilliant sunshine and warm again - I give up

All this between 9am & 2:30 the British Summer for you & its wimbledon too

I agree Arthur - fantastic views - could have designed a better building - i have watched it being built every time I go up to London - not sure what the designers had in mind - what ever it was - not my idea - the laser light display was quite good though.

I woudl love to go up on the viewing deck

I don't really know anything about The Shard but it does look rather a monstrosity. some people have some very strange ideas about design don't they?




We have been trying to sort out beds and chairs for my OH. It now looks as though we will be getting him an adjustable bed and swapping the bedrooms round.

After that, we need to look at electric recliner chairs. He loves the recliner he has at the moment but finds it hard to pull the lever at times.


Not much fun growing old is it??? :-(


Today, my son and daughter-in-law celebrate their 16th wedding anniversary. It doesn't seem possible that the years have flown by so fast.


It's done nothing bur rain here today - fed up with it now...........at least we don't have to water the plants though :-D

Sorry I have been missing a bit but it has been a sad time for the family this week.

My step mother ..a wonderfull lady has three daughters ,the youngest one

had a daughter who developed cerebral palsy at the age of two ,we did

not expect her to live past 15 but she did and went on to live until she

passed away last week aged 22.

WE had the funerall on Thursday ,she was so well cared for ,I think that is why she lived so long .

Josie I was glad to read you are Ok with all the earthquakes ,it must be very scary for you all.

The cricket well what can I say ,the Aussies are shocking but we shall fight on...bring on the games :-D

Been tinkering with the boards on and off, it is cold wet and windy here ..not nice.

Oh Sue - how sad - What a bonus having her with you for an extra 7 years .

I know she will be greatly missed - but you at least have all those wonderful memories to look back on.

Looks like we are going to have rain again for the ODI on Tuesday - Lets not discuss the Cricket as we are on opposite side this time

Thats all it ever seems to do at the moment - sunshine & showers - very heavy ones - we had rain on & off all weekend & we still have a drought here in the south and they are asking us to conserve water in our local paper every night.

We were driving home on Saturday evening - odd spits & spots of showers - until we got within 5 miles of home & the heavens opened & it threw it down - as usual nowhere to park the car - so had to do a naughty & park on the pavement outside our house close up tot he gate for the night. We had the shopping to unload and got soaked on a very short walk. 10 mins later it all stopped and was very humid again - typical.

Well back to my sarnie and potter around the boards.

we're having a heat wave ........................



5 straight days of sun and warm temperatures, and forecast to last at least until Friday :-D


Daughter and her family arrive very late on Friday evening (their plane lands at 11:30 pm) for just under 2 weeks visit. Do hope we get some of this nice weather while they are here.



Sue ........... I'm very sorry to hear that news. You will all miss her.



I found out yesterday that the husband of one of my cousins in Australia died on Friday morning ............... he was about 90 and had been ill for some weeks.

They had celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary on June 14 :-0


They were married the same year as the Queen and Prince Philip ........ and got a free trip to England 15 years ago, when a certain number of couples from England and the Commonwealth who had been married in 1947 were invited to a Garden Party at Buckingham Palace to help celebrate. My cousins were chosen by the Australian Government to go.




Wimbledon ................... Canadians were highly delighted .................. the winner of the Boys Junior title and the winner of the Girls Junior and Girls Doubles titles were both from Canada. Almost a clean sweep of the Junior titles!!!

Hello everyone :-D


So sorry to hear about that young woman's death Sue; it must be very hard for those who have been caring for her for so long. She must have been much loved.


Rain? Rain? Have never seen so much in my life that I can remember. I keep saying to OH that I want to look at a couple of local reservoirs to see how they are doing. Trouble is, if we are fortunate to get 3 weeks of sunshine, there will be another hosepipe ban !!


My OH saw the registrar at the hospital in Liverpool and we came away very pleased. He is doing well on the new meds - long may it last. He was given a couple of simple tests - dexterity, memory etc. and passed with flying colours :-D


I've also lost 7lbs which has pleased my health trainer no end. I'm really impressed with this service offered by our surgery as there is no undue pressure, it's one-to-one and very friendly and relaxed.


No grandchildren to look after this week so I have a couple of free afternoons. It's my friend's birthday tomorrow so I am hoping to take her out for lunch.

Now I'm off to search through some Liverpool sites for a friend.

Thank you for the offer of look ups for me - I didn't forget your kind offer - but its all been sorted now.

My friend has been reunited with his family in Liverpool now - and its all worked out really well. He gets to meet his family later in the year - at the moment its email & phone calls. He is now calling me Davina as i found his Long Lost family for him.

It was a bit of a struggle at times & took nearly 2 years - but all ended well - apart from he never got to meet his mum as she has passed away. His family have loads of photos of her and lots of stories. Its also a very large family group so comes as a little bit of a shock all at once - to go from only child for over 50 years to being a member of a large group.

Just wish i could do that for me as would love to have more info on my father and photos - but don't think that will ever happen now - too much water has flown under the bridge. :-( :-( :-( :-( :-(

Well back to work now - have another long lost family to find - for another friend - this one stretches across Europe so will be a very big challenge in my lunch breaks.
