Same in Scotland Barbra, we did not get a vote on

Same thing with T May resigning and Alex Salmon resigning
their party chooses the replacements.

Well that's interesting Madge because my health has nothing at all to do with Boris either! oh but some like to make up their own rules.

I'd like a dragon emoticon too, perhaps we should ask GR - I'm sure they'd find one for us :-) I suppose there isn't an eye roll one because it would get worn out :-D

I agree re the neighbours recording Boris and GF having a ding dong - how creepy is that? Then passing it on to the media :-0 :-0 It's a bit like people noseying into threads without comment but posting on the subject on their own thread which is about something completely different. Creepy.

Apparently, being nice to each other or to our political representatives on these threads is no longer enough to avoid being repeatedly reported. ;-)

Trying to get somewhat back to the point, or at least to a couple of comments regarding Party Leadership.

This argument has cropped up over the last couple of elections in Australia following our 'revolving door' series of Prime Ministers of either Party.

Fortunately, or unfortunately depending on your point of view, the electoral system here, as in the UK is that you vote for the person or party that you would like to see in government.

Each Party elects from amongst its elected members a person to lead it.

That person then becomes Prime Minister, or the Leader of the Opposition, depending on the voting public.

However, the public generally have no say in who becomes the actual leader, that rests with members of that party, whether elected or not.

Do I now use a scowly face, or a smiley face? :-S

Bob, a GE would see us between a rock and a hard place at the moment.

The EU will only react to propositions from the UK Govt, nobody else. Thus S50 cancel, request-for-extension etc would have to come from the PM . There is no sign so far that Bojo would request a delay and so the UK is heading for a no deal brexit which would create chaos.

Even if Bojo asked for a delay he would need v good reason. The only reasons sufficiently good are to hold a PeoplesVote or a GE. There is not, right now, sufficient support in the House for a 2nd referendum ( gap is about 20 votes ). Bojo says he is ok with a no deal brexit.

Thus on the face of it ( no U-turns from Boris ) the only way brexit can be stopped is if enough Tories were prepared to support a VONC. It is unlikely that they would do so in July but do have the numbers in September. There are solid signs that 12-20 would do so (negating Labour rebels such as Kate Hoey and C Flint) forcing a GE.

The Brexiter party won't go away. On current trends an autumn GE will see both of the major parties badly mauled with the LibDems and SNP holding the balance of power. The SNP strongly dislikes Corbyn as do the LibDems but not as much. Corbyn is rapidly losing the support of his own party and faces serious trouble in the autumn conf.

Thus we are heading towards a Labour minority administration propped up by the wearers of sandals and kilts. The Libs (who could easily hold > 100 seats ) are unlikely to enter a formal coalition but will provide conf and support. Their shopping list will be a PeoplesVote with Lab supporting Remain and some sort of PR. The SNP will want control of everything bar defence and foreign affairs.

The DUP will bitterly regret not backing up T May when they had the chance to do so. As to Corbyn's Leninist ideas he is likely to get the popular renat of the railways ( British Rail, the physical network of track and stations is a 100% UK Govt owned entity anyway ) but not much else and will go in a huff even if not pushed.

At least 20 Tory MPs prefer this scenario to chaos under Bojo. They see themselves running a successful centre right party ( under Hunt? ) in the EU model with the ERG and Bojo banished to a dark place.

All the business experts say a no deal would be a disaster. It doesn't take a lot of intelligence to work out that for many it WILL be a disaster, of course some will benefit ( some one always does, in spite of or because of) . But I doubt it will be the people who most need it.

Normal people are well aware that a nodeal brexit would be a chaotic disaster. Current polling shows a steady lead of 8% for remain on the basis of May's deal and far more no deal. Crucially any attempt to force nodeal through the Commons would result in a General Election and a hung parliament with Lab running a minority govt.

Once Bojo has the keys to no 10 expect F1 quality u turns to the sound of smashing crockery. Do not be surprised if the WAB rises from the dead.
