Just watching....The man who went up a Hill and came down a mountain........
It's on the yesterday channel now.So funny and is so very Welsh....reminded me of this thread.
The Welsh are trying to increase the height of their "mountain "so it will qualify to be called that.

TheBlackKnight. I guess we are all a small minority with many of our views - but our views not less valid necessarily. My views about independence are held by 13% of people living in Wales. My views on royalty by about 55%. My views on Welsh language have not really been tested because bi-lingualism was "championed" by various Welsh Secretaries of a left and right persuasion. And the views in Wales about Dr Lewis are 1% for, 5% against, 94% couldn't care less.

I think at work there are 50 of us and the amount keen on Welsh independence from Westminster is probably 2% ie me. But it is not a subject I have ever discussed with any of them - we tend to joke about rugby, football, our families, Katherine Jenkins, restaurants, shows, films and the like. I never mention seperatism or religion to them. Or even my own family, though they obviously know my opinions. I keep the lively, contentious subjects for you lucky people :-D

At my son's Tesco, most of the youngsters can reply to simple Welsh questions. Yes, Rob can. But he could not hold a conversation at length and I don't think the question has ever come up. He does know a couple of associates in the store who are fluent and he would politely ask if they would prefer to be served by a fluent Welsh speaker. It is just good customer relations and he is a very polite young man - take note Conrad Davies. ;-)

That's right, Ann, it was filmed in Llanrhaeadr-ym-Mochnant and Llansilin in Mid Wales but was about Garth Hill.

I can hear my grandmother addressing my grandfather every time I watch it.

" Are you twp, Will?"

Same old etc.
It was fun but getting a bit borish now :-(

One of Derek Brockway's walks was up Y Garth in "Weatherman Walking" series. Fabulous views from top down the Taff valley to Cardiff and the Channel, and Somerset beyond. And village at start of walk (Gwaleod-y- Garth) is very pretty and is a long street with at least one nice pub. Many walkers sat outside on a warm summer's day.

As AnnC says, very close to M4 J32. Just leave at J32 towards Merthyr on A470 and first exit left. Opposite side of River Taff to the fairytale Castell Coch :-D.

Can you please post the Brockway thread, Sue. Am sure most of the girls (and quite a few of the lads) would be very interested to judge that photo for themselves.

I would rather be led up "Y Garth" by his gorgeous colleague Sue Charles. :-D

Edit Ta for link. Few minutes of silence whilst we study and form our own opinions ;-)

John I would like to know where you get you're figures from? I find them so funny.
Why when you live breath & die for Wales have you not taught you're son to speak Welsh?
Out of 50 people you say you are the only person that wants independence, yet you state early on in this thread that a lot of welsh people want independence, I don't think 1 in 50 is a lot.
The man that has written the book called Second Class Citizen- Is it about himself? :-D

JustJohn

JustJohn Report 19 Jan 2013 21:14

BK. You are obviously a government statistician in your "day job". Your grasp of statistical proabability would get you a job withe any Government department in E & W.

I have clearly said that 13% want independence - a bit less than in Scotland. That is based on 45 years of national and local elections and large polls. As you may guess, a poll of over 2 million is more reliable that a straw poll of 50 workmates.

I work in an area which is heavily Labour - Labour is one of the "right wing" parties round here. Labour have always been a Unionist party and people are very Unionist (tradition of men like Bevan, George Thomas, Callagham and Kinnock). Out of 50 at my works, I guess that I am the only seperatist. But I don't know as I have never asked them who they vote for and what they think about politics. Far more serious things on our minds - like how the Blues and Ospreys got on at rugby and the Bluebirds and Jacks at football :-D

AnnCardiff

AnnCardiff Report 19 Jan 2013 21:45

well I have yet to meet a fellow Welsh person who wants independence - it's "separatist" by the way

Lordy ,this thread diversifies again :-D

I think Derek is great ,never seen his naked pic on FB ( bit yuk to do that tho )

I don't care which side he bats for I think he's a brill weather man :-D

Oh please don't got on about statistics again ,it's a load of bull which we can all pick out of the air. Sounds like a shite political party broadcast which a lot of us ( no that's not stats...just fact ) switch off at the mention of !
