Bridget - I can imagine what you must have gone through, waiting to find out if your son and his friends were OK. Glad to know they got away when they did but it must have been very disappointing to them regarding their project of wanting to help. The ignorant locals will possibly blame them for the earthquake!

Nothing much going on here. We are having beautiful days. This is the nicest part of the year for us (Spring). Beautiful weather with temps in the mid-twenties. Summer gets a little too hot at times and Autumn brings that nip in the air, reminding us that Winter is coming.

SpanishEyes Report 21 Sep 2011 05:38

Berona,
Thanks for your reply. You have made me laugh about about the ignorant locals! My grandfather served in the English Army and spent a considerable amount of time in India, he did not have the highest regard for most of the people he met in India and your comment reminded me of what he used to say.,
I spoke to my son again yesterday and he had a good evening the night before his birthday with those who travelled with him in a small convoy.
Then last night he and his girl friend were having a special meal together.
He is very artistic, was a TV presenter in music for about six years. He hs owned a specialist clothes shop for the well off in Barcelona. He is now thinking about writing the story of their attempt to help others in India.

We are well, and today I shall start to organise the clothes etc we shall need for our trip back to the UK. I am really looking forward to seeing my granddaughter who was so badly burnt. She is doing very well especially since the nursing group went to her class and explained shay had happened to her and the treatment she is going to have. They also trained the pupils in first aid should such an event at school or home.

OH has just printed off the route from home to Calais so I hope he has made sure that it is in fairly large print!!

Not sure what we are doing today, simply chilling out I suspect.

Well that is about all for the moment
So please everyone enjoy your day

Well at least my beloved team were able to beat lowly Shrewsbury 3-1, a little bit of good news.

Confirmation class went well and we managed to light our candles for Bridget's great niece

Quiet day today spent a few hours at the Job Centre, and a while on here with my tree.
Some really bright genealogists on here have discovered that my mum's cousin didn't go to New Zealand after all - but went to a different island completely (Wight). I just love the people on here.

Back soon

PS: Bridget good luck with the trip!!!

I have been up since 05.00hours here in Spain! The sky is still black and the street lights on.
As we leave tomorrow at 04.00 hours I thought it best to be up early, tidy where needed, put the first load of washing on, all the towels used around the pool and on the beach, and then cleaned the back bedroom ready for the next visitors in early November.

Then had coffee, checked emails etc and suddenly husband, son and then daughter in law were up as well. So on went the fresh coffee, toast and marmalade was the only breakfast they wanted and are now on their way to the airport, OH is driving them.
Seconded lot of washing on now, with towels in the tumbler....a bit extravagant I know but no sunshine yet and I only do this occassionally.

Just taking a break now and then will clean the bedrooms, put away dry washing and the go downstairs to the second half of the house and make up the bedrooms,Hoover through and make sure that all is in good order, so around an hour or so I should be able to have another peek on here.

Bye for now, Bridget

Have discovered that my thread about my great niece who has Cystic Fibrosis has been deleted...well I didn't do it so who did.
I am now going to start a new one, but so many people who helped us through the early days and have continued being so helpful are lost.!

Good morning from Bridget who is now in the UK.
OH did a fantastic car drive yesterday. We left home at 04.20 hrs and he drove straight to Calais! We had several short stops on the way and decided that we would get as near to Calais as we could and find somewhere to stay over night. However OH decided to go straith to Calais as he wanted to see if we could go any earlier.
We were very lucky, no extra charge for changing dates and the train left in 15 minutes. It only had about 20 cars on it.
Then drove to Hastings, found somewhere cheap, cheerful and clean, had a meal and went to bed.
The total mileage was 993 miles!!

Will be leaving soon to go to Norfolk. Will have breakfast and then the traffic should be reasonable OK.

Have a happy day everyone, I will be back tomorrow.

Bridget - Well done - with the 20+ miles on the train that's a 1000+ mile journey day - brilliant!!!

Congratulate OH on his drive - I bet he feels a little bit tired - but I expect you will do some of the driving today?! Tell him he missed the 20/20 Cricket against the West Indies yesterday - England romped home by 10 wickets with nearly 5 overs to spare!!

Enjoy Norfolk a great place to be right now with the East wind at its lowest in September - always pleasant!

I did a bit of DIY with OH yesterday - so we can at last utilize the shed a bit more and today I think I will be lazing around enjoying the autumnal sunshine as I expect Bridget will be!!

What a mamouth journey Bridget. My hubby would have been falling asleep. When we did the drive we stopped over the border in France for a night then travelled another 6 hours or so to our friends in Plumilea and then drove up to Rosscoff for the ferry to Plymouth. Enjoy your dray in England according to the weather forecast you are in for a good week.
Take care
Love Mary xx

Good day everyone

Back at my volunteer job today - again I am looking after reception at the same time as being in the IT room. The sun is shining, there is a beautiful blue sky, and it's nearly October.

Spent a little time in the 'garden' yesterday - or should I call it 'cat jungle' - took out two giant sacks of weeds (which were collected this morning by the recycling men) - by this time next year I promise my garden (both front and back) will be worth looking at!!!!!!

It is amazing Berona - I can remember a world without the Internet and mobile phones and remember cars with running boards (mostly black) and my OH says I am not old. Mind you I also remember playing in the street and climbing trees and riding my bike without a helmet so I must be old - mind you I remember a time without Health and Safety - cars without seat belts!!! (They were available, but only as a 'posh' extra)

Bridget must be really enjoying Norfolk, not a peep since she arrived!! I just hope she is well?!!

Still watching the Car Park - nothing happening.

I'm off now to make tea - back tomorrow
Gerard :-)

Hadn't been on here for a few days, so have a lot of answering to do.

Gerard ...we moved up the coast because we had been on holiday here so can understand that your memories are good ones.

Bridget...my late son had Cystic Fibrosis so I know what your family had had to take in....he had a good life and was a lovely person, but unfortunately he left us aged 23... please tell them what a lovely specialist said to us when he was diagnosed...It doesn't matter what or who you are it is the quality of life that counts not the quantity.....great words for us all.

I see also that you are in Attlebrough.....I live a way from there, but if you wanted to ring me,,then e mail me privately via Genes, or by my e mail which I think you had a while ago.

Yes Gerard Health and Safety are a pain, what ever happened to common sense...how did we all survive

Best wishes everyone Jan

For all you people not in the UK ....
We are having HOT weather.
Much hotter than in the schoo; summer holidays.

Last Fridat I went to the Severn Valley Railway Gala.
Where I eventually met my cousins from Colarado. It was great to see them, especially as last time they came (a year ago) I wasn't well enough to go out, so missed them.

It was a warmish day (but not as hot as today) and the event was very well attended. Various engines going up and down the line.. from Kidderminster to Bridgenorth, stopping at many other ststions between.

So a lot of people on trains. Also loads of people en-route, taking photos.

Didn't get home till after 10pm.

The next day I met my (recently found) cousin at Birmingham New Street Station.

It was another warm and sunny day. Last time she came (and th first time we met) was in December 2009. It was very wet and cold and miserable, even for the time of year.

She had come to look at the German Christmas Market, (which is outdoors) so not a good first meeting.

I really enjoyed both days but they sapped my energy big time. Bridget, so sad that your son going to India was not able to proceed with the project.

It seems as the local peoplehad not been forewarned, or consulted. Shame that there was noone able to explain what was going on, to allay their fears.

After all, if a bunch of foreigners not speaking the local language. arrived in my neighbourhood and statred digging!
Such a shame after all the time, effort, plans, fund raising etc. put in by your son and his friends.
I hope that you are enjoying your time in hot and sunny UK

Tess

Thank you for your entry and it was an interesting read. The Severn Railway Gala sounds great fun.
We have made the decision go return to the UK to live. I was stunned when OH announced In public that he had decided that he would enjoy coming back to the UK in a year or so to give time to find both a buyer and somewhere to buy.
I do understand exactly what you mean about the lack of communication from the Registered Company that organised the project that my eldest son decided he would go one.he had about 4 months preparation including gathering a minimum of £1000.00 ponds which went directly to the organisation. He also had to pay the flights out and back.
I do one feel that the organisation should explain why it went so wrong, MOT the Earth Quake of course!

Well must go and chat with my friend, both husbands have gone out to provide a Quiz for 100 people for a charity.

Take care everyone.

Bridget
