So pleased to know your grand-daughter is home and I wish her well for a speedy recovery.

Ann - I hate those days. Why it is that on that day, we seem to be just a little more hungry for breakfast than usual? I take a tub of yogurt with me to the doctor's, then sit in my car and eat it before I drive home!

Son hogged the computer all evening. Eventually I gave up and went to bed. Just come down for a quick check on here and to get a drink as I am thirsty.
Will be going back to bed for a read and a rest, before shopping with the R&R (special bus service).

Will be back in the afternoon/evening (will ban son from using computer for more than half-an-hour).

Such early birds... I thought that I would be the first on here this morning..but how good to hear from you both.
Tess it is reassuring to know that someone else has to hsve a drink, not alcohol, in the early hours of the morning. It is to hot to take a drink to my bedside as it would be warm and horrible. I have just made my first coffee of the day.
Berona, does your son need the computer for work or education in which case I understand why he is on it for so long, but if he is just chatting, as I am now, then maybe you could say something such as " after a couple of hours I would like to use the computer but you can have it back in an hour or so. Just a thought... Not trying to interfere.
We are out this afternoon, so I will not be on here long as I have got to write a special letter today.
My mothers 2nd eldest brother used to visit us frequently and when he died my cousin and his wife did the same...big age difference, about 20 years. Well two years ago I found them again, but sadly my cousin had died exactly one week earlier. My cousin's wife was so very kind but was not up to being in contact directly, so I wrote to her son instead, then I was I'll as some of you will recall, but this week her son contacted me so we are back together again. His Mum would like to hear from me, so I will write today.

Late afternoon we are out visiting people I do not know very well
, feel a bit concerned but good friends will be going as well so all should be ok.

Well that is about it for now, so enjoy your day.

Had "muddled brain" earlier, an off-shoot of "preggy brain" which I contacted in 1973-4.

It is now 3.47 on Thursday morning, and it is raining. Just as well really as for some reason (possibly something to do with muddled brain), I can't unlock the locks on the bedroom windows.
I had closed them earlier, as I was going out, but almost always sleep with the windows open. (I like fresh air, and have mild clostrophobia).
So was rather panicky earlier, and very unsettled when despite all my efforts, the windows remained firmly closed.
Now that it is raining, I know that I would have closed them anyway, so can feel calmer.
Will have to sort then out after a sleep.

Got two things for the garden today, some weed-killer, and some bulbs!

Also did my general shopping, shops were rather quiet again, not sure if it is because of the school holidays or the unrest that went on a couple of weeks ago.

Hope to go out in the morning as I need to go to the post office. Will also be going to the charity shop to take back some paperback books and buy some more

Have just started to yawn, so I'm off to bed. (again),

Oh Tess,

I had to look twice and your post was right it is the 25th, how time flies by!
It is so hot here that the shutters are the windows are down and the fans are on, but still it is or should that be was, far to hot to sleep. Tossed and turned for a few hrs, woke OH twice then came into the sitting room
.
Went onto veranda and it was soo warm for 2am.,
Everything was still, not even the hint of a breeze, no birds calling, Jet &Joe were sound asleep on the tiled floor , and husband in the land of nod!!

Will be staying at home today, and I shall have a day off dusting etc so I can catch up on letters etc.

Too hot to write any more, I may be back later

OH and a friend put together the raised wooden bed we bought and we now have to fill it with soil so should have more veg to eat next year. Seeing the newly weds on Saturday and they finally have some photos so will be able to see them ...looking forward to that. OH sister was diagnosed with breast cancer less than 2 weeks ago, and she had her op yesterday, she seems in good spirits but sore, plan to see her next week after the Bank Holiday. The NHS certainly got moving to get her in and operated on, she has to undergo radio therapy, and hopefully she will be ok. Keep your fingers crossed, glad all is ok with you Bridget

Love to everyone

Good morning everyone. It is still very dark here but within about an hour it will be bright and sunny. One of the things that I really miss about the UK is the long, long summer days. I am sure that those who live in the UK will know what I mean. The sun rises very early and dies very late so the summer days are long. Here they are about 10 hrs with daylight and night darkness happening quite suddenly.

So whilst waiting for daylight I decided today to stay in the house, make my first cup of tea, and then start writing on here,

Yesterdays news. OH worked very hard yesterday, not that this is unusual....we have our friends from Yorkshire arriving on Saturday, very excited about that,
Due to health problems they have not been here for four years. So the exterior of the house looks immaculate, the White Walls are really in top order, the garden has been pruned, tidied, the watering system is working
well.

Their rooms have been checked to make sure that all that should be in place is in place. Unlike living in the UK when each room would have vases of flowers here we do not put flowers in the bedrooms. Mostly because flowers do not last more than a day or so, and secondly if the windows are left open
The bees and other insects would invade the room.

Yesterday our Liverpool friends as usual came to swim in our pool and brought some freshly cooked Rolls with ham and Salad for lunch. Due to the recession here the complex where they live is now empty nearly all the year around. This means that the facilities such as the pool, the little shop etc are no longer in operation. Indeed about 90% of the houses and apartments are closed up all the year with 75% not sold.
We enjoy their company and they tend to do their own thing as well..such as using one of the computers, listening to music , even cooking a meal for us- all.....it all comes together very well.
They will return to the UK in about a week or so.

Stepson had a meeting yesterday, I am not sure if itbess with the courts or with Social Services. Heeding our advice he did havebthe mothervwith him, and he had made notes to discuss. He called us late in the afternoon to say he thought that the meeting had gone very well, but as he was driving he would call us back. Well the saying "no knows is good news " springs to mind as he has not yet called back!!

Jan, I do pray that your friend makes a complete recovery.
Tess, I have high jacked the "Muddled Brain". Because it descrips me so well, from time to time. I do miss the Charity Shops for buying books and occassionally finding something interesting. I also miss the Car Boot sales. I found many bargains overvthe years including some Moorcroft items!
We did try introducing them here, in fact wevtried twice in differentbvenues, but it was mostly tattered books and odd pieces of chipped china, and the Spaniards thought it was very bizzare....

I even tried having a library, in one of our large wooden huts but that petered out as well, mostly because the Brits started to go back to the UK..

Off to make a fresh coffee and wait for daylightnto arrive

Bridget in Spain and it is 06.54 hrs.

Bridget I think they have a car boot sale in Tenerife. They certainly have markets which are like car boots with people selling their stuff. Occasionally you can find English books but unfortunately in North Tenerife the books that are not Spanish are usually German.

Good morning to you all.
The weather is still very good here in Peniscols but no where near as hot first thing in the morning. This is most likely because the main part of the summer is coming to an end, by the end of September it will be very different.

The nearest house below us has some Germsns on holiday and already the children are having fun in the swimming pool, so cannot be too cool. They are quite delightful children, always laughing and playing so a pleasure to listen to them.

Our friends from Yorkshire finally arrived last night. They did not hsve a very easy day. The incoming plan to Manchester, was very late a due to r technical problems so this caused considerably delay. Instead of arriving at Reus airport at approximately 17.00 hrs. They arrived so late that OH did not get home until nearly midnight.

Thank goodness for mobile phones, otherwise I would have been very worried.

Consequently we did not go to bed until about 02.30, but had a good sleep.

I am wondering if everyone is away on holiday or like me hsve visitors because people are not posting. Such a shame as I look forward to hearing from my cyber pen pals,

So please come back soon.

Bye for now

No rain here Jan, the past two days have been quite pleasant, not sunny but bright. A bit breezy though.

SpanishEyes Report 29 Aug 2011 06:53

Ann, have a great holiday and when you are back you will be able go tell us all about it. Where are you off to?

It was a much cooler day yesterday and therefore more pleasant. We used the swimming pool, and the water was warm, and even I stayed in for quite a while.

To hot still to cook to much. So had salad for our main meal and we had real Pork Pies from a wonderful shop in Harrogate, which is where our friends live.
They also brought two cakes, one fruit and one Ginger from Aunt Bettys also in Harrogate ......yum yum...

Not sure what we are doing today, we are not planning to go very far just relaxing really.

The sun is beginning to break through now and the birds are chirping away, jet and Joe are still asleep, in fact Joe is on the settee with me and Jet is on the tiles outside in the shade, oh is still asleep as are our friends.

Can you believe that we are nearly into September?? Not long now until shops in the UK will start to put the Christmas items on the shelves!! That doesn't happen here until December.

Not long now until my eldest son starts his travel to India to help supply clean water to various villages where there is no wells. His partner is going with him and theybwill be traveling in something called a TukTuk, rather similar to a very large three wheeler bike with a hood and enough room to carrynyour belongings. All the costs of going has been paid by them and various friends, members of the family and companies have helped to raise the funds that the registered Charity required before they could go.

We are unlikely to be in contact with them very often so as you can imagine there will be times when we are a little concerned. However what an experience and as he has already arranged a Reunioin for all the people he was at school with in September, ( they will all be in their 40th year) he is obviously confident that all will be well.

Well that is all my news so far today it is time for me to make the coffee

Bridget

Nothing much to report from Sydney. Yesterday, we had a temp of 24 and I sat out in the sun until I became "hot" for the first time since early Autumn. Our Spring starts on Thursday - and that's my kind of weather!! To-day, is more normal with an expected top of 18, but it won't be long now!

Ann - hope you have a lovely holiday wherever you go. I'm still awaiting my books and will finish my current book by this evening - so I hope they arrive soon.

SpanishEyes

SpanishEyes Report 30 Aug 2011 07:03

Berona,
Good morning and thank for your message. My OH has connections with Sydney in so far as he has cousins who emigrated there in the 1950s I think. I have, many years ago, met several of them but we are no longer in contact..family argument I think!

My first husband was the senior Accountant for the English company who worked with the Australian Accountants re building the Sydney Opera House. Whet a fantastic building that is.
In the 1960s we got as far as completing all our paperwork to go to Australia to live. As I was a registered nurse and hecwas a Charted Accountant we had even been able to find guaranteed employment but at the last moment he decided that as an only child he could not leave the UK, same thing happened re going to south Africa a few years later!

Ann enjoy your holiday.

Last night we had the King of thunderstorms, truly amazing. Does anyone else enjoy watching this amazing natural phenomena?
We have such a wonderful view of the sky that we can see about 3/4 of a circle, therefore as the storm moved we could still see the lightening before the claps of thunder.
We all sat watching it for several hours. Just as we thought it was over so it would gather even more strength........

The down side was that the telephone went off and the Internet went down!!

We were very worried when the siren went of for the sea rescue team to go out and we tried to stay up until it returned, but age lead the way...and we finally went to bed.

I pray that everyone returned safely.

Coffee time is calling, I will try to get back a couple of times during the day, just to see if anyone else is around.

Bridget

Beautiful morning now, with sunshine, the slightest breeze you could imagine and peace & quiet all around us.

The church bel

Well visitors are now up. And therefore time for me to put the kettle on.
I will try to get back later today.

Hi Bridget

My first time on your thread, but I am fascinated with Spain. My first wife was Spanish from Cuenca Province. My second partner came from the North West - Galicia that is not Liverpool!! - I shall read you every day now. I have been working on my tree today and added a few names.
I am supposed to be working (voluntary unpaid) looking after the car park and reception, but I can see everything from the IT room.
