Hi Everyone

So sorry I have been missing but I am trying to catch up with all my work at home it did get away from me a bit I am afraid.

Josie I hear another aftershock in your neck of the woods you seem to be getting alot of earthquakes latey,I bet you will be glad for it all to end.

We are expecting a storm tonight ,we can do with the rain I can tell you it is so dry here.

I don't know how we are going to get through a long Summer.

Sylvia that Turkey Chicken and Duck sounds very tasty,I might try that myself for our Chrissy meal,I get sick of the same old thing on the 25th of Dec.

By the way my wepping Flowering Cherry tree is beautifull since I put it in a half round wine barrell it is out in bloom at the moment and looks a picture.
The place I had it in the garden bed along with the Roses I have put a flowering Peach tree that too is out in bloom.
You can probably tell I love my garden.

The rain has just started so I hope it teams down all night.

Dad is Ok still seeing two of everything but the Doctor has giving him a patch to put over one eye at a time so he only sees one of everything,says it will take a few weeks to get back to normal,he was very lucky I think.

Paul please feel free to join us you are more than welcome.

Going to get myself a drink ,time for a rest I think.

Afternoon all - a breathing space at last

The sun is out - bit breezy but salt air is good for you

Lots of people popping in & out then

Good to see you Josie - sorry you had a bit of a time family wise.

Sorry to hear your loss Sylvia

Glad you are back home now Sue

Cynthia buzzing around a lot as usual - have a rest dear.

Nice to see you pop in & out Robert - do come back again soon

Had a very eventful Saturday visiting in-laws

We left home as normal around 8am - stopped for Breakfast (little treat) back on the motorway & all came to a stop (for 20 mins or so) not a clue why.

Started off and then they flashed up M26 closed (not our way - but made M25 a lot busier) then there was a problem on the M20 - even busier - took ages to get through the Tunnel & off we went again.

Loads & loads of roadworks so speed reduced - we didn't think we were going to get there - but we did. Mum had laid on a couple of sandwiches & a sauage roll for us as we were going to eat in the evening.

Well we like to eat early so we leave around 4;30 at the latest to drive to the restaurant - well we started trying to get them motivated and on the move around 4 (it takes a while) by 4:45 they started moving - OH muttering etc. We went off with dad to get petrol & Mum & sister "Went Shopping" OH nearly exploded & was muttering away all down the road.

We got to the restaurant at 5:40 - waited 15 mins for the other 2 to arrive - went in to the restautant to find it was full - nearly an hour wait for a table.

Oh already blown a gasket by now - so mum suggests - lets go back to town & find somewhere else - OH exploded - it took 20 mins to get here - 20 mins back look for a restaurant - faff around & we may eat by 9 - goodness only know what time we will get home - he was just about to start again when I shoved him in the car.

We decided not to eat & just go home as we were a quarter of the way there anyway - great debate with family over lack of food etc - we said goodbye & left - the wrong way out of the car park & took 10 mins to get back to the road. My fault he went the wrong way to the exit. Him still moaning etc.

Then we got to the bridge & we all stopped - loads of traffic - 35 mins later we were motoring again - then we hit heavy traffic & all slowed down again - at last on the M23 all going better & we ground to a halt just outside Pease Pottage. 40 mins later one lane moved - 20 mins and we all started going in to the slow lane - and then we were diverted - & off we went. We got home eventually a lot later than we expected & no food as it was too late to cook - so nibbled a biscuit or 2.

Anyone wonder why we actually bothered at all - it was a nightmare.

Came back to work for a rest

Well talk of work - I had better get back to the joys of this wonderful job.

Take care all - hope everyone is keeping fit & healthy.

I don't envy you that mess Sylvia but I am sure it will be worth it in the long run. I can't remember where I have put anything anyway so don't fret....lol

Hi Josie, good to have you back. ;)) I have sent Paul a pm to try and explain things a little. Have a feeling he may not look for a reply on here somehow. I only sent him one of my messages this week so I think he is a new member to the boards.

Sue, yes, we have guessed that you love your garden......and it's lovely to hear how things are growing....maybe we should call you Mary as in Mary, Mary, quite contrary? Glad your dad is okay.

Anne....that was a journey and a half wasn't it? Would have loved to have been a fly on the wall when you shoved him into the car. Sounds like there was a lot of muttering going on.....oh dear. Work seems the better option I agree.

Voluntary job and grandchldren for me today. They are on half term next week and are going away so we will have a break.....I'll miss them though. Granddaughter is getting very confident in making crumbles and custard - we have them each time she comes!! She and her granddad love them but I prefer savoury pies.

Wonder where our boys have got to? No Wayne this week and no Frank for a while. The Venerable Robert is warily watching from a distance. Do hope they speak to us soon.

Take care all. Love. C.

FRANK06

FRANK06 Report 19 Oct 2010 22:26

Cynthia,

Do you miss me as much as your savoury pies..............

I am just pleased to be back at work after an exhausting ten days with the grandchildren, our daughters and the American in-laws.
Young Sophia has already got two teeth and little Nieve is working on hers already, slabbering all over the place.....do you have slabbering in England, Canada, Australia, New Zealand?
It's amazing how they switch from happy smiley to screaming and chewing their wee hands, then back to happy smiley.

Nieve is being given Ashton Parson's teething powders which I'm told are only available in Britain but seem quite effective while Sophia is equally happy with Homeopathic teething granules from the USA.

The wedding went well as did the christening which was held in the old fogies club which is doubling as our church while it's rebuilt..
Our new church actually burnt down the night before my daughter's wedding so it was just as well she had not chosen to marry there!!

That's us booked our flights to Washington for christmas and my OH is quite pleased as it's five years since we had christmas together with our eldest daughter........now we have to split ourselves in two!

Well, we'll have New year in Scotland.

By the way Cynthia, it's alright to talk to yourself as long as you don't answer back..............

" Be cheerful.........Strive to be happy "

Cynthia

Cynthia Report 19 Oct 2010 22:33

Ooooh look! Frank is back! Mmmm the pies are very tempting though.

I think we have 'slavvering' or 'slobbering' round here.....and that's just the adults......!! no, no, I jest. Your two wee grandchildren are certainly growing fast.

Glad you had a good time but it sounds exhausting and it was sad about the church burning down.

So, you are off to the US for Christmas then? Well I hope you manage to pay a visit on here for a minute or two.

Anyway, good to see you back. Night night. Cx.

Back talking to myself I see!

Okay Cynthia, I went with OH to see his Parkinson's nurse this morning. I get all stressed about this sort of thing but she was pleased with him. Maybe just a slight boost is needed but not essential at the moment.

After that, I went for some retail therapy at the supermarket....such fun! hahaha. Back for tea and am ready to relax when daughter phones with a medical prob so I have told her to phone the docs in the morning. Does it never end?

Think I will have an early night as my brain feels panfried!

Night night Cynthia.

SylviaInCanada Report 21 Oct 2010 00:55

oh dear

Poor C, all on her ownio!

I find it easier to come on during my evening visit!

Frank ....... MJ's first tooth is on its way out ...... but he also has been slobbering and dribbling for months! Luckily, he seems to be having little trouble, just "not quite himself" as daughter puts it.

Kitchen's on a bit of hold at the moment .... the cabinet maker said he thought he would be ready to deliver the cabinets either tomorrow (Thursday) or Friday, but it really depends on when OH can be home to help him.

We had a good time at the Celebration of Life yesterday ........... no religious aspect to it at all. They basically provided a place and nibblies so that friends, colleagues and family could gather to talk about G, exchange stories ..... and hug and cry if that's what was needed. Only the immediate members of the family spoke, telling stories about G ............... his 3 children, his wife, his grandson (age 12), his brother and sister.

B, the grandson, held it together enough to say what he wanted to say, then collapsed in tears, he was very close to his grandfather. I spoke to his mother (who I last saw as a teenager about 25 years ago!), and said how well B had done, and how impressed I had been with him as I watched him move around the room ............... she said she was really proud at how he had held it together.

I also managed to have quite a long talk to G's wife .... who said she had hardly eaten or slept since it happened ........ G died in his sleep, and, although he had several health problems, it really was completely unexpected.

We had several long chats with other ex-colleagues ................ we all come out for these events (and there have been about 6 over the last 4 years or so), but never seem to meet up at any other time.

I suggested to OH on the way home that we might try holding some sort of buffet do after Christmas, and see how many of them will come to it ...... so that we meet in happier circumstances.

We had fish pie from the freezer last night! Nice and easy for OH to eat.

This is all part of that very expensive implant / bridge / etc work that he is having done!

take care everyone

Hi Everyone

Sorry Cynthia I have had a cow of a week.

The house next door is a rental and the real estate agent that handles it has put two 21 yr old boys in there so you can emagine the noise that comes from it.

Sat night they had a party that started at 4 oclock in the morning and finished at 7 am two hours break then it started again at 9.30.
The also play an electric gitar and play the drums.

I am at my witts end to know what to do,if we complain you just don't know what these boys will do they have alot of friends that call on them.

I am very sleep deprived and that makes me crankey,It does not make any difference if you own your own house because these rentals are everywhere.

Frank I have always wanted to go to America it sound like you enjoy going yourself to catch up with family,I suppose with the Dollar being the way it is makes it a cheap holiday.
Have you been to Gracelands,I loved Elvis.

Better get dinner started.
Check in later.

Hi everyone

Finally managed to make an appointment at the hairdressers, and got my hair lopped.

It should last now until the week before we leave for our Christmas trip to Nova Scotia.

It was a lovely day ...... blue skies and sunny, although it was very foggy early in the morning. Then it began to cloud over in late afternoon ...... and was raining by about 7:30 pm!

Sue ..... that sounds horrendous!

We've had some experiences like that in the past with the house next to us. The couple who owned it didn't want to sell the house ........ and in fact they demolished it about 4 years ago, and built a new house for the youngest son. Apparently, it is a Chinese tradition to provide a house for each of your children.

Anyway, they rented it out from about 1980 until then ........... Frank (neighbour) was NOT the best judge of renters, nor was he the best landlord!

He'd get a good tenant, then increase the rent by the maximum amount as soon as it was possible ..... so the good tenant would up and move out.

Then he'd get a rotten tenant, and we, and other neighbours, would have to bear the brunt of it!

It really did seem to alternate like that, until the last 10 years when he got an excellent tenant, and kept them!

We did complain to HIM about the bad tenants though! Let him know that there was damage possibly being done ......... he didn't like it at first, even accused the neighbour on the other side of being racist, which was the biggest joke you could imagine!

May I suggest that you contact the letting agent ....... mention the word DAMAGE, that seems to work like magic!

You could also phone in a complaint to the police ............asking that they keep your name confidential.

I think Sylvia's idea sounds fine Sue...go for it. It must be horrible to have all that hassle going on next door. We're fortunately blessed with good neighbours but who says it will last??

It's a good job that the Chinese tradition of providing each offspring with a house wasn't around with our Ag lab rellies! Think of those who had 12 and upwards children...lol

A very grey start to the day but the sun is now beginning to break through - I have some washing in the machine so I hope I can get it on the line at some stage.

I guess Anne is hectically beavering away at her job; Frank will be ferreting away in his workplace and Evelyn is badgering Ron into moving away from the tv. It would be good to hear from some more of our friends.

~~~~~~~~~~waves to Robert, who is peeping out of his little shell to see if all is clear.
Love. Cx.
Hopefully a fairly gentle day - just some ironing, out to lunch and a mooch with daughter - who is on half term.
Hi Everyone
Thankyou for your comments,I am trying to give them a go but most kids these days don't care about anyone but themselves.
I will see how this weekend goes,if they do playup I will call the Police and let the agent know.
I just want a peacefull life we do not bother anyone and it was a nice quiet area before.
I went out today and visited my friends just to get a break ,he started with the Guitar about lunchtime ,alls quiet at present keep my fingers crossed it lasts.
We have had a bit of rain over the last few days very good for the gardens,I must say they are looking good.
Time to feed the OH.
Dorothy !! So glad you like the thread it does get good at times with our little stories, we have a good crowd who join in from time to time,weekends are a little slow as we all have busy lives and we come from all over the World.
Please feel free to join us .
Dad is fine ,Drove up to Perth( Western Australia ) today just to put my mind at ease,he has lost a bit of feeling in hiis face and it has dropped on one side but they tell him it will recover in about Six weeks the same as his sight,he is still seeing two of everything.
He is none to happy as he plays golf and he is seeing two balls, he can still laugh at it .
For those who do not know my dad had a stroke,they call it a mini stroke here,he is 82 yrs young as he calls it.
I am getting an early night tonight two hours 30 minutes up to Perth and the same back home so it was KFC for dinner and a glass of wine ,that really knocked me over.
See you all tomorrow.
So glad to hear your dad is ok and on the mend Sue - now I want a KFC - I do love it apart from the chips - they are a bit soggy over here.
I love the states - wish we had enough to go back on holiday
Been working this weekend - so first chance to pop in and just waiting for the oven to warm up
Stirfry for me and a tasty smoked salmon fillet for OH
Such a lovely day out - blue sky but a bit nippy out
I have so neglected my Family tree - will try & do some this afternoon if I can.
I have a couple of days off soon - but could be barmy enough to do a mornings overtime on Friday as they are asking us to come in if we can
TAKE THAT (scream) goes on sale on Friday - all hell breaking loose at work - can't stand them myself - bit like the fiasco with Michael Jackson - in at 6am get everything set up & the phones go barmy around 7am till 10am then it all calmed down a bit.
Well kitchen calls - at least all the washing & ironing are done - The new Harry Potter is on Sky this afternoon - will try & get the OH to have a sunday afternoon kip for a couple of hours - now where did I put those sleeping pills?
Take care all
Hello Everyone from a very cold Guernsey, all is well here at the moment. Rons eyes are ok so he is going for an eye test tomorrow as he feels he needs new specs, I will accompany him as he usually has drops and cant drive after so will need me to drive him home, whilst he is with the optician I will have a mooch around the shops, might even do some xmas shopping as it will be much easier than doing it in December when everyone else is doing theirs.
Before going to the Optician I am going to have my hair cut and blow dried I will feel 10 years younger after that, I do so hate untidy hair.
We have had a nice young man in to install a new box to our TV as the island is going digital on 17th November, poor Ron will be so confused as he is not very good with gadgets, I must say I havent had a good look at the instructions yet either but will do soon so I am up to date when it is useable.
Robert I hope your shell is well insulated as winter is nearly upon us and we dont want you to get cold, I could knit you some nice thermal socks if that would help.
Hope all is well with our Cynthia and her family, such a busy life you lead Cynthia my friend.
Reading about the bad neighbours makes me realise how lucky we are as we have such good ones, he goes fishing and he even cleans and fillets the fish before he brings it to us.
We are expecting company so I had better finish my chores before they arrive,love to you all
We Scots don't feel the cold (and it is much warmer here in England!) and the shell is well insulated.
FRANK06 Report 24 Oct 2010 17:23
Hi Evelyn,
Don't worry about the digital TV box as all it means is your TV now has channels 1 - 35 instead of 1-5 and one bonus is a "Red button" which when pressed can give you some altenative options on your viewing.
It works fine even with older TVs.
During the commonwealth games we could select to watch either the swimming or running or shooting etc etc all on the same channel but using the red button.........
Anne, you really spoil that man of yours.............separate meals, I just eat whatever my OH prepares for both of us.
I'm easily pleased.
Booked our KLM flights to Washington via Schipol as we have been most impressed with them.
Last time we tried Virgin but seat size and legroom were disappointing while the general levels of service were rather poor.
Quite happy with BA but we are just wary of the possibillity of any union disruption at christmas.
Of course it's always more expensive at christmas as normally seats are about £320 but this time round it's £500 a pop!
Cynthia, what's with all the furry animals..........beavers, badgers, ferrets.
I suppose you'll be getting as cosy a wee dormouse in your little nest.
Just pleased to see Robert's alright and well prepared for the winter.
Our Jock on the Tyne is all fine, all fine.
Our Jock on the Tyne is all fine............
Appologies to Lindisfarne !!
Evelyn Report 24 Oct 2010 17:38
Hello Frank,
I hope you are right about the digi box, if I have any problems may I ask you for advice? I have read the instructions and it tells me I can record 2 programmes at once, maybe that will mean I shall sometimes get to see a programme that I like rather than continuous sport. There is probably more chance of me mastering the use of the box as Ron just wont try, always says I dont understand these things, I dont either but at least I will have a go.
Glad all is cosy in the shell Robert I wouldnt like you to feel the chill.
Guess I shall soon need my thermals on as it is getting very cold here.
Love to all
