Tabitha Report 26 Dec 2015 13:59

Hope everyone had a peaceful Christmas.

We were planning a peaceful start but should realise things never go according to plan.

Shadow decided to be very vocal on Christmas eve morning & would not eat his breakfast. I had to work all day so his dad looked after him. Apparently he spent most of the time behind the sofa, or on his dads lap in the afternoon. He did not eat his food but had dreamies & biscuits.

When I got home late that evening we decided to have a takeaway as a treat, I ordered the food & went to get charged. Shadow refused his supper & just whined pitifully at me. I gave him a check over & nowhere seemed to hurt. The he went to his food bowl & howled at it. I called the vet who said it may be a fur ball stuck & if we wanted him checked over we could bring him down, but it would cost a min of £110.

We had a 5 min chat & I went to get changed & get his basket. 10mins of fighting to get him in & howls of protest. We were just leaving when we remembered the food. By then Shadow had virtually destroyed the paper his basket was sitting on. Little black paws darting through the bars & swearing at us.

Takeaway arrived I left it in the kitchen & we went to the car.

Arrived at the vet, he was like a sweet little lamb. Vet checked him over & looks like a gum infection & poss a bad tooth. Apart from that he was very healthy which was good news. She gave him a strong long lasting antibiotic and a strong painkiller to last a couple of days.

2 min fight to get back in the kitty carrier and off home. Loads of howls & grumbles from the basket. Once home left oh to try & find a parking space & I took poorly paws in. He flew out the basket as soon as I undid the catch. Gave me a passing glare & sat & had a wash.

Went to kitchen & demolished a whole bowl of food - had a good drink & his dad came in. Lots of fuss & cuddles & a gave a very pathetic look at the empty food bowl. Oh then goes to food cupboard & got another sachet of food. Moans at me for not feeding the cat & Shadow demolished another bowl of food. Big grin on his face goes & sits on Oh & goes to sleep for the evening after more cuddles.

We are £145 lighter but at least Shadow is A lot better & out of pain. So we can both feel happier.

We have to go back for a check up to see if the tooth has to come out.

So much for a peaceful start to Christmas.

Anne

So glad the vet was able to sort Shadow out. If it had been something more serious and he had become really ill you would not have been able to forgive yourselves.

Vikki cost me considerably more in the Spring, but she repays me in sackfuls by being a happy loving cat - alarms calls in the morning by jumping on me at 0630. Her in Spain I am enjoying my lie ins until 0830. Fortunately Nikki has had no problems and apart from the annual injections has not cost me money.

The Spanish celebrate Christmas Eve - like most of Europe. For our Christmas lunch we had the most delicious seafood paella - a first. As I am trying to lose weight potatoes are off (sweet potatoes are OK) but I must confess I missed roast potatoes and brussel sprouts.

Hope Shadow continues in good health.

Thank you Arthur- Shadow is very well and eating his meals quite happily.

He is getting a new toy this afternoon his Christmas treat but he won't give up his old ones. Also a bit of chicken left but he doesn't really like human food at all.

Previous little furry companion would sit outside the oven as soon as I started cooking a chicken and would mount a guard by the fridge.

Shadow ignores it totally

We have the vet on Tuesday evening.

Hope you are having a lovely time in Spain

Take care

Hi everyone

we got back yesterday ...... in pouring rain!

How nice to see Reece and Robert dropping by xxx

Anne ............. do hope that Shadow is fully recovered by now.

It sounds as though everyone had a great Christmas, in different ways.

So did we ............. different from what we had originally planned, but still very enjoyable.

Another friend joined us at the Christmas Buffet, and we had a fun time. The food was excellent, and the company was even better :-)

The weather on Christmas Day was glorious .............. sun and blue skies, but it was chilly. It rained on the other days ............ and there was even snow on the morning we left.

Our sick friend was in good form, and the Palliative Care Centre was terrific with her. She may even be moved out for a few days/weeks to a full care centre as she has improved so much with food, re-hydration and pain control, and they need the bed for people in worse shape. The prognosis seems to be about 2 months :-(

I did end up with a medical problem myself .............. thought I had caught OH's bug the weekend before we went away, but the docs now suspect I might have an ulcer, so I have to go onto a bland diet, no caffeine, etc etc, until tests can be arranged in the new year.

I'm afraid that Arthur's paella, much as I like it, would have been a no-no!!

I could eat the maple glazed ham and cedar board cooked wild sockeye salmon that were served at the Christmas Day Buffet .......... both were delicious!!! The turkey was less delicious ........... why is it that mass-cooked turkey, as served at such events, is usually not that good?? OH said the stuffing was really tasty!

Does anyone know where was Sue intending to be while she was in the UK???

I do hope that she hasn't been caught up in any of this flooding that we've heard about.

Old

Old Report 28 Dec 2015 20:03

Unless she is in Scotland then she will not see snow

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 28 Dec 2015 20:05

I gather it is rain and flooding in Yorkshire :-(

Poor old York

wasn't it Sue's husband who had never seen snow?

Tabitha

Tabitha Report 30 Dec 2015 13:48

Thank you for the card Sylvia - sorry to hear you have a medical issue

Glad you had a good time anyway

The floods are all over the place - Yorkshire - Cumbria - but of Wales - with th weather at the moment its more rain & gales & the west country & wales seem to be getting it bad too in the next few days.

I think Sue needs to go to Texas for the snow

Shadow has to go in for dental work next week - 4 or 5 teeth out & a lot of cash heading to the vet - Big worry as they will need to keep him in for the day & put him out to do a full teeth clean & extraction.

Poor little thing must have had teeth problems for a wile. i got a bit upset as he is 12 & there is always a bit of a risk - He will hate going without food or being let out & i will feel so guilty handing him over to the vet in his box.

i am the one who needs to be knocked out - he is such a shy cat so will hate all these strangers around him - must let them know he does not like loud noises.

Oh tells me not to be so soft

I will be on end all day waiting for them to call us to collect him.

Must ask Cynthia if she has heard from Sue

Knock knock..........

Tentatively pokes nose round the door..........

Just thought I would pop in and wish everyone a very Happy and Peaceful New Year. :-D

As you have probably guessed, I spend most of my leisure time *elsewhere* and, apart from being in a couple of groups, I also help to administer two pages which takes up a fair amount of time.

Also, my husband's condition has deteriorated and this takes much of day unfortunately.

However, you are all in my thoughts and you are still held in high esteem in my memory.

If I can get organised, I will try and pop back now and again.

Love and best wishes to you all. <3

Thought I'd quietly poke my nose in and wish you all a Happy, Healthy and Prosperous New Year.

Now rushing back into my shell!!!

Tabitha

Tabitha Report 4 Jan 2016 13:16

Happy New year

Lovely to see you again Robert - hope the shell is cozy in the storms - floods & gales

Cynthia - great to have you back - sorry to hear about your OH - I hope things improve soon

Anyone heard from Sue -

My F in L seems to go through a new phase every 5-6 weeks -

The first one we noticed was when he had not taken part in any conversation - even when we tried talking to him - he just sat staring at the photos on the wall - then we had the same 4 questions asked over & over again -

We got the old photos out to go over with him - but he wasn't interested

The next visit we had the holiday memories, which was quite fun & he & Oh had a good time talking about the cars they shared , especially when he was learning to drive -

Now he has decided he likes to try out his favorite big band tunes on us all the time - My poor M in L gets it all day - the carers enjoy it when they visit - they keep asking him if they can give him requests .

Told M in L she should do the same for variety - he does occasionally get a lucid moment - i think she has given up trying to watch any programmes on the TV if its not a one off.

i wished him happy Christmas & gave him his present - he didn't know what Christmas was but knew what to do with the chocolates & sweets i gave him - he did have a few words with us too - when we said goodbye he thanked us for the gifts & visiting & how nice it was to see us again - just as we were leaving the room he asked Mum - who were that young couple do i know them?

Oh is feeling quite upset now when we go for a visit as its not his dad any more - he said he never thought he would feel like that & its upsetting to see him. I feel the same as he use to be the senior manager & i was his PA - I remember the good old days - he use to blast people out of his office regularly.

I saw the working side of him that his family didn't.

Yes i did marry the bosses son - but not when i was working for him - after i was promoted i went to another office & his son was moved to the office for promotion reasons & the rest is history. Its a lot longer story but that can be another time .

Tabitha

Tabitha Report 11 Jan 2016 13:11

I see David Bowie has now passed from us - so very talented - never realized how old he was when i was younger .- i thought he was a lot older than me .

Reminds me of the day Freddie Mercury died - same sort of conversations

We were talking about his music here in the office this morning - a lot of the younger ones don't tend to know much about him - makes me feel quite old

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 11 Jan 2016 17:26

yes, a sad day, although I never really took to Bowie's music .............. I'm a little too old I think :-)

Nice to see you Robert. Hope all is going well in the shell, and you are not too cold or too wet.

Our friend is in her last days. She's now sleeping all the time, and asked for a No Visitors, Staff Only policy to be instituted (and no phone calls). We were thinking of going over this coming weekend, but will not do so now ................

I'm waiting for a referral to a gastroenterologist to have a "camera down the throat". It's about 12 years since I last had a check-up after having an oesophageal ulcer and my GP thinks it's time to have one. The guy I used to see has retired so they have to find someone they think I will like and who does not have a long waiting list!

Its very lonely on here now

Poor little thread seems to have been abandoned

Has anyone heard from or about Sally - getting quite worried about her

Hope everyone else is well

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 20 Jan 2016 21:24

I was only thinking about Sally yesterday.

Does anyone have a contact for her??

I don't.

Anne ......... I think we're all busy and also trying to recover from Christmas and the January doldrums

We're also feeling pretty down ................. we lost our best friend on Saturday after a 2½ month battle with pancreatic cancer.

She's the one we were with over Christmas. We'd been friends since we arrived here in 1968

Tabitha

Tabitha Report 21 Jan 2016 12:58

Oh Sylvia I am so sorry to hear your news - at least you had some time with her

Sending calm healing thoughts over to you both

I am sure she is at Peace now & looking over you both

We started to get very quiet on the thread from the Summer -

I am really worried about Sally though she hasn't been on any of her threads & she always nipped in & out a bit

Not sure if I should put one on the General Thread to see if anyone had heard from her.

I know Cynthia seems to spend a lot of time on FB & one of the other threads on here

Would have been nice to know Sue was here even if she was a long way away from me - no chance of me ever visiting her neck of the woods

Reece

Reece Report 26 Jan 2016 15:37

Dear friends, such sadness for all of us. I wondered about Sally too, and Susan and if she finally got to visit the UK as she hoped. I hope she did and found the snow also.

I made my maiden voyage on my new motability scooter this morning, before the rain came, accompanied by my very helpful son walking beside me. So now I hope to get out a bit more when the weather improves.

I do an occasional piece of research and am now going back to a Morris one that is still puzzling me.

Hoping that you are all well and that we hear something of missing friends soon.

Love and best wishes, Reece <3 <3 <3 <3 <3

so now we know ...........

our old friend Cynthia did some digging (ie, Googling), and found the following ..........

-------
I think I have found out about Sally Whittington. Sad news - incredibly sad for their family.

WHITTINGTON SALLY & ROGER of Bourne. Sadly Sally passed away in Peterborough City Hospital on 26th May also her beloved husband Roger in The Cedars, Bourne on 27th May 2015. Much loved parents of David & Debby and devoted grandparents of Chloe, Sam & Sophie.

Their Funeral Service will take place at South Lincolnshire Crematorium on Thursday 11th June at 11.00am. Family flowers only. Donations, if desired, for Cancer Research UK may be sent to T.R.Carlton Funeral Directors, 35b Abbey Road, Bourne.

Marriages Dec 1964 (>99%)

DENLEY Sally D WHITTINGTON Willesden 5f 398
WHITTINGTON ROGER B DENLEY WILLESDEN 5F 398

------

If I found the correct birth registration last night for Sally, she was born in late 1945/early 1946 ....... so she was only 69/70
