I think it's the era we were born in Cyns

We know how to rustle up a feed out of anything.

I have a load of washing put on around dinner time for me to put out in the morning.

Hopefully it will be another nice day tomorrow... that will be five fine days in a row so hope I am not pushing it.

Don't talk about DIY Funerals Ginns!!

My brother's is tomorrow and apparently a Priest has been arranged and he was supposed to telephone me about the Eulogy etc !!

No phone call yet and no answer from his phone - I have left messages but no reply!

Have a feeling he will not bother to turn up so I might have to 'do it myself' tomorrow !!

Oh well,

Such is life ;-)

At mom’s funeral last year, we only had the last info about 9pm the night before and we changed it all

He said we could not have Ruddy Kipling 'If' as it was too masculine....we told him bleep orf, it’s what we wanted

All went well the next day, except for my car, if you remember!

Gee

hi

why do you keep on nudging up this thread?

There is nothing in the Genes Reunited house rules to say that members cannot post twice, thrice or 101 times, if they feel like it, for the same person.

Genes has a rather strange message board compared to other family search sites.

Rather than having a usable thread history with a decent search tool Genes has a a totally useless search function (it is easier to use Google) and seems to feel that the best way to deal with requests is in real time. I guess this has an entertainment value for some but it is a hassle for others who have the temerity to desert their keyboards after posting to fix the kid's tea or watch Casualty or whatever, lose their place and post again... Many (most?) are not aware of "my threads".

By and large people (but not all) are far more likely to answer a request if they know something about the family / locality. Thus anybody new to this board may imagine that the chances of a useful response are remote. Indeed they would be except that (as in Macbeth's blasted heath) Ancestry has a team of self annointed wizards who answer most of the queries on the board. Unsurprisingly as they do most of the work this group seems to feel they own the board and can set rules.
Pretty obviously for them repeated posts are a big annoyance hence yet another of those. huge threads which have always been a feature / curse of Genes. Whooosh indeed.

OTOH they are pretty good at dealing with ancestry transcription errors, strays etc but the lack of any real subject knowledge tends to show.

Given the lack of a decent search tool repeated requests are inevitable, especially when people are looking for more info than you can find in the cold printed record.

Much as the efforts of a small group are appreciated it would be far better if Genes itself got this board sorted out so that the thread history was accessible and all members may feel able to join in and indeed reply to aged posts - something nearly as verboten as posting twice. A reply may be of interest to others, not only the original poster.

For this to happen Genes needs to demand a structured post with family name and locality as compulsory in the header (so that a search can work properly and sort names from place names) plus date range. Given different board software we could then have something as useful for family search as roots.web.

However whilst it remains essentially an extension of quizzes and trivia in format one hopes in vain.

Meanwhile may I suggest that the "rules" remain solely those posted by Genes and users - especially new ones - are supported and not crushed with such responses as "don't post twice". It is after all meant to be fun.

best regards

Whooo Howard, what a convoluted statement from you. I'm not sure you really understand how things work round here so will send a pm.

I will clarify though, if you look at the Help clinic above, left, it clearly states.........

'Please don't post about the same person or family twice as this can make extra work for the volunteer helpers.'

Why not?

And it is GR who state this rule

Howard, maybe you should contact GR with your ideas? This is not the place where you will get help ;-)
