Hi Everyone

OH and I are on holiday from work this week, no early mornings and late evenings for a week, and I had my 66th birthday yesterday.

I am no green fingers but I am finally trying to sort out the back garden, it has taken me over 33 years to get round to it, but it is starting to take shape, if only the weather had been better this week.

Our last surviving cat, Sox, is being very comforting at this time too, and we have been spoiling him quite a bit, but I am sure that is only natural.

I think I had got to I in the alphabet

I is for Italian food.- until I left home and went to work in London, my only experience of Italian food was tinned Heinz Spaghetti in tomato and Macaroni Cheese my mum used to make, not really very Italian. I had my first Pizza in 1967, and the Italian chef where I worked when I was an Assistant Hotel Manager, always provided us with a different pasta dish. I just love Pesto and Mozzarella cheese.

Bridget - Thanks for keeping us up to date with your position with your daughter, I am hoping and praying for a successful outcome all round

I. This must be for Italy.
I have been to Italy quite often when I was younger and fell in love with it. Italian food, is still my favourite with those handsome waiters.!

I. If old age in the shape of waining strength says to me often "Thou shalt not" so do my years smile upon me and say to me, "Thou needs not!".

I. I first felt old walking in Spain with my friends daughter aged 13 when I belatedly realised the wolf whistle was not for me!. :-)

Saw a clip on tv about amusing "got it wrong on camera" a bride (at the alter) was supposed to say something about "Love and JUST(ice)) but instead came out with promising LUST!

Even the minister was laughing.

Jelly is not a favourite food, but reminds me of childrens birthday parties in the 1950's.

J is for JAMBOREE If I remember correctly, some "Lucky bags" in the fifties were called JAMBOREE. (sorry about the spelling - my dictionary has gone walkabout).


Any scouts, guides out there?

My dad was a scout master, I just about remember him talking about the Jubilee Jamboree (again I think this was in the mid to late 1950's)

I wonder if many people met their "pen-pals" while celebrating at the Jamboree? And are any of them still in touch?

Just an update on how my dogs are doing.

We have been to a three day competition starting yesterday. it is George's first time and he did well on the first day, the second he decided to play instead of going the course so lets hope today is better.

Henry got two rosettes the first day for clear rounds, yesterday he got a rosette and trophy for third place so guess who is sooooo pleased :-D

Today is the last day and I am hoping the weather gets better. On the first day it poured and I thought it would be cancelled.....but what a hardy lot, we carried on regardless....yesterday wasn't much better. I have been shattered as soon as we got home so went to bed not long after.....Up again at 4 to start all over again......am fair worn out.......anyway....enough of my bragging....am orft to make a cup of tea :-D

Bridget, I have been away for four weeks where the internet was not that good for much of the time and the IPad didn't always pick it up. Therefore I have not been on this thread. I am sorry you have had a sad time with your daughter, will send positive thoughts now if not too late.

You also asked if any of us were foster carers. We were back in the late 60s/70s, a very rewarding job. We were short term carers, the longest child we looked after was for 6 months, that was a baby almost from birth. <3

I think I have got to J

JUNE is my favourite month - I got married in June, started my first proper job in June, had my best ever bowling performance at cricket and scored my first half-century batting all in June. I also love the June weather, not too hot and usually the sunniest month.
This June will be special as OH and I are celebrating our tenth anniversary and renewing our wedding vows in church in front of our usual Sunday congregation (We got married in a mill in Somerset the first time round - so romantic).

Looking forward to seeing lots more entries on here

Is your leg still in plaster? If so how on earth do you manage the dogs?

June 23rd 1956 I started going out with my OH. I was almost 16 and he was almost 17.
I like June but hate January.
I actually like Jelly but I am not keen on Jelly beans and don't like junket.
i enjoy books by Jodi Piccoult.
And one of my my favourite singers is Jack Junes.

My dear friends

I am thrilled to say that my family member who caused me to be so very sad, telephoned me yesterday and my daughter is back. We both wept with joy. For those who sent me private messages, thank you.

We both cried, as I had just received the birthday card she had sent me.....I was holding the card when I picked up the telephone........


Many thanks as well for keeping this thread alive. Just let me have a few more days and then I hope I will be truly back to my usual self.

Glad to hear your good news Bridget. I have been thinking of you and remembering you and your family in my prayers.

Hope everyone else is ok. Not been able to access this site for a few weeks due to computer probs but a very talented man came last Saturday spent 2 hours plus and hey presto we are back to normal. OH doing lots of research now on laptops as he does not want this computer to die without buying another one.

We have booked up ferry for August to go back to UK for 8 days - well you loose a couple of days travelling but hopefully we will be seeing our family and friends. Also I have to collect my mom's ashes as her final wish was to be scattered at the crem my dad was cremated at.

Henry won a first Rossette and trophy.....I was so shocked that the presenter was all smiles too.......so in all it was two clear rounds , one 3rd and trophy and a 1st with trophy.....and all with a gammy leg ..:-D.....I forgot to tell you that I fractured my leg in two places at training a few weeks back and after having the plaster taken off am now having to put up with a brace until the 17th......Oh woe is me.....but on with the bragging.....and thank you for letting me :-D


My baby is starting gun dog training this weekend and is also getting great at agility....so all is good in my doggie world.....Just to think that 3 years ago I started a new life by training dogs :-D <3

I don't know whether I should be pleased with myself, but I have just confirmed that Rick Wakeman of 'Yes' is a very very distant relative, and that he and Jill Ireland (the actress who married David MacCullum and Charles Bronson) share the same great great great grandfather, and they are now all on my tree. I also discovered that Nina Carter (famous Sun Page 3 girl) who was married to Rick Wakeman, was born Penelope Mallett.

A few more 'J's':
I love Jelly especially at the bottom of my sister-in-law's famous Christmas Trifle, with cream and Cadbury's Flake crumbled on top. Apricot JAM - unfortunately OH is not a fan so I get to eat it less often than I would like.

If the weather stays nice I may spend some time in the garden today.

Good morning to all of you on this thread.
Today Is my birthday and I have had many cards already. Our visitors and my OH and me all went out last night as it was Darts night, we all had a good time but did not win. Lots of laughter and banter. Came home at about 23 hrs and sat in the veranda and watched some of our visitors swimming in the pool, no drinks for them until the came upstairs.

Opened my cards as soon as it was midnight, lots of hugs and kisses. Lunch out today and we think there will be about 16 of us. The one place we first wanted to go to closes today so going to The Wok Hom instead, a help your self to as much food as you want, with lots of choices. I am sure we will have a fun time.

It is very peaceful here, the sun is shining, no wind, the sea looks calm, jet and joe are asleep, and the only sound is the birds.

Susan, not sure if I have said well done to you and your dogs on another thread but well done anyway. You obviously have a talent for training dogs. Hope the leg soon heals, it must be frustrating for you.

Gerard, quite a 'famous' tree you have now then?

It was a lovely weekend and the weather held until yesterday which was gorgeous, warm and sunny and in the evening we sat out in the garden with a drink and admired whatw e have done since we returned from four weeks away. today it is grey, cloudy and breezy although not too cold. Typical English summer weather, we always pay for sunny days.

Have been busy again. Two of my grandsons stayed here for a few days during their half-term holiday. Friday-Wednesday.. Their dad, (my son) was here paert of the time, so I did get some rest. Neveer-the-less, it was tiring. Took me a few days to get over it.

Went to a garden centre last week. Bought four plants - so now I will have to get some compost, then do some digging, before planting a couple of them outside. Also need some new pots.

This week met some school friends in town - we became "ladies who lunch" before going on a conducted tour of the "Back to Backs" in Birmingham. These are some rather old houses in Birmingham which were saved from demplition. They were the only remaining Back-to-backs in town. All very interesting.

Our lunch was at a lovely Chinese Buffett place. As much as you can eat for £6.99 Very tasty.

Grandsons here again today. Son took us all to Cannon Hill Park. which is close to the Edgbaston Cricket Ground. There was an International game on, we could here the crowds cheer when England did something good.

A lovely sunny day.
My son then went to work 16.00 -22.00 so I was in charge of the boys.

They spent much of that time on the computer, so I haven't had a look in till now.

Son is off to work again tomorrow 8.00 - 16.00. So I will have another busy day.

I wonder if I an get them to do any digging? I need to mow the lawn too.

Should be having my hair cut on Monday, luckily it is an afternoon appointment, so I can have a lie in.

Gerard I didn't know that you played cricket. Do I understand from your posting that you surname is Mallett? The only Mallett that springs used to be the manager of Birmingham City Football Club. I think that his first name was Joe.
I do have McCallum in my Ancestry - (but don't look anyhthing like David M) No claims to fame in my tree so far.

The only one that comes to mind at the moment is The KINKS. I loved their music, but was not allowed to listen to it (or any other "pop" music) at home.

Might not be back for a couple of days. But will try to make at least one posting before the week-end (when the boys are back).
