Might depend on what was happening in Ireland, eg Potato Famine, so were they going TO something such as work or AWAY from hardship and desperate need. |

Have you tried googling? Or looking at censuses? |

Try local history groups or the Staffs FHS. |

It's quite a tricky one. The ancestors I'm searching for is on the 1861 Census as living in a house as a lodger with many other Irish people. He was listed as a miner, asged 25. He married in 1862 but unfortunately he passed away in a pit accident before the 1871 Census, leaving a wife and 3 children , he was aged 30. |

As you have an address for 1861 you can probably trace the nearest pit so you can then research to see if there are any histories of the pit. |

Another difficulty is that you don't know when he was born. |

The thing is on closer inspection, I really have no idea which of the John Burkes are the one I'm looking for on the 1861 Census. He was the only Miner so thought that maybe he was the one, but really it could be any of them as I have nothing further to confirm it. |

Yes that is the one I thought could have been him, I was going by the fact that he is the only one that is a miner. You're right, I dont know his correct age, I just thought that it must be around 1839 as per the details on his death certificate. |

If the groom was 21, that means his YOB would be c1841 - not matching either his death or the 1861 census! |

I think you'll have to accept that John is a brick wall. |
