Afternoon all - very quick visit

manic in the office - snow - flight delays etc etc

Could do with some of your warmth - i too feel like I could go for a Visit with Josie

I woudl love to experience an OZ Christmas at 37 degrees - it seems so very unreal.

We spent Christmas in Lanzerote in 1994 - very strange walking along the beach in T shirt & shorts - but nowhere near that sort of heat

One day when we make our fortune or win the lotto I will try a down under Christmas

Wrap up warm (or refridgerate) take care all

Goodness me, where does time go?

All this talk of good weather and pavlovas is very tempting indeed.

I am sick of this snow. Had to spend a while digging yesterday so that I could back the car onto the main road....very naughty but we live in trying times!

Went to Tesco and it took nearly an hour to come off the car park because of congestion. Oh the joys of the season!

My outside pipe is still freezing so I am still going out to give it a rap to knock the ice out!

Will try and post properly tomorrow, Night night all. Cx

FRANK06 Report 20 Dec 2010 23:43

Hello again from sunny Washington............we made it!

Wonderful flight with no delays although by all accounts we just made it ahead of the bad snow which closed Schiphol Airport.
Of all the transatlantic flights we've done using US Airlines, Continental, Virgin, United Airlines, KLM, British Airways, only the last two are worth mentioning.
Virgin who always seemed well regarded were a great let down when we flew last year with tiny seats, legroom and a small glass of wine with the meal.
In comparison we've flown three times with KLM and I don't know if it's because they are Dutch but the staff just seem to make a huge effort to please and I am well aware as to how difficult it is serving the general public.
Hot towels, pre dinner nibbles, a lovely meal, two small bottles of wine and water, then an after dinner drink was offered which we declined.
Further into the flight ice cream and water.
Finally a hot snack or a cake and a cold drink, it just could not have been any better............well not unless you got Anne to book you into first class with one of her fancy clients ;)
Also at the galley was a selection of snacks, chocolate bars etc to which you could help yourself if you so wished....yum.

Anyway we got into Washington and it was snowing with a couple of inches having fallen and temperatures about -2c.
It's remained cold but dry and that's the immediate forecast for us so it 's quite pretty and nice for sight seeing so long as you are well wrappped up.

Young Sophia is advancing rapidly with four teeth and still crawling backwards.........she just swings around in reverse to get where she's going!

Hope all you Brits are surviving in the snowstorms.....good excercise for you Cynthia.
Our Southern friends are obviously envious of our cool christmas....not!!

Forgot how late it is with the time difference so you'll probably be all tucked up in bed with your horlicks by now,

Take care now form the other, other side of the world and good morning to the other side of the world.

I looked out of the window as we passed over Halifax, Canada but there was no sign of that dreaded rollingpin, guess Sylvia was still enjoying her train journey.

Do I have an American accent yet???

Howdy Frank

You should be chuffed you took off when you did - bedlam & it spread to Germany, Belgium, France then us

I did check out your flight - nice feedback on KLM - have to admit i wouldn't give BA house room - i woudl never fly with them again if I could go with any other airline - I had two of the wrost flights in my life with them - Airline ok - just the crew each time - rude & idle the whole time.

I loved Virgin each time I went with them - haven't flown KLM but can't wait to try when I get some money one day.

Well back to the phones & the weather & the "my delivery hasn't arrived " or "I want to go to a top restaurant on Chritmas Eve or Christmas day & wonder why its full" It adds spice to your day

Trying to find a flight to Paris & not a thing in sight - Oh well here we go again - "Why can't I get a flight"

Keep up the good work Cynthia

Thank you for all the cards & good wishes - two more days at work

Keep warm (or cool) - Take care all

Come on Anne,

Louis Bleriot crossed the Channel with a couple of wings and some string, can't you whip something up ?
Where's Cynthia and her broomstick when you need her.

Ooops, young Sophia is trying to grab the netbook.

Bye

Hi Everyone

Hi Frank glad you had a good trip and I would say very lucky to have made it out of the UK....going by our news over in OZ.
I was very pleased to hear about KLM as I was thinking of taking a trip to the UK this year flying KLM as they fly direct into Bristol, that would be very handy for me.

British Airways a big NO after the way they treated my elderly Aunt and Uncle on there flight to OZ a few years back.

Took a flying visit up to Perth WA yesterday to see Dad but I was very glad to get back last night it was so busy up there and hot !sorry guys to all in the UK.....they are tellng us we can look forward to 37c for Christmas day.

The dau wants a roast this year so I will do that but the air con will get a bashing...up goes my elec bill.

I am off shopping to day starting the food side of things now, catch you all again tonight.

Kiwibird Report 22 Dec 2010 11:03

Hi Everyone,
The first and last time I flew KLM as in 1968, when I was 12,
I flew with my Father from Singapore to Holland
via Bangkok, Cairo and Frankfurt to visit his family in Holland.

It was his first trip home after emigrating to New Zealand in 1948.

As I kid I certainly though the service and the all the free goodies I was given aboard being great.

On the trip back we flew directly from Holland to Australia and I can remember feeling very nauseous from all the cigar smoke,

they were not very enlightened back then.

Hope the sun is still shinning for you in Washington Frank!

the good thing is Americans have SNOWPLOWS something that appears to be lacking in the UK according to a news report I saw

so you should not get bogged down to the extent you were, back in Scotland/Siberia.

Last night we experienced a Solar Eclipse in this part of the world, unfortunately I missed it as I was out, having a wonderful meal at a local restaurant shouted by my Boss. and it was over by the time we came out.

Tonight we have a Full moon which is sitting very low on the horizon and a sky full of stars.

The weather has been very hot and humid here almost tropical with mist and rain for the last week in a half but The prediction for Christmas day is plenty of Sun.

It seem kind of strange thinking most of you are digging out your thermal underwear, scarfs, hats and snow boots,
while I am getting out the picnic basket, sunscreen and swimsuit in readiness for my Christmas day.

Go easy on your pipes Cynthia, you don't want to have a mishap,
wish I could package up some sunshine and a Pavalova and post it to you ,
But it would probably get stuck at Heathrow.!!!

Only Consolation I could suggest would be to go on the Internet and Google up photos of warm tropical destinations

and while sitting at your computer wrapped up in a blanket you can look at the screen and imagine yourself there.

Well it's midnight
time I went to bed. Have to be up in 6 hours to go to work
Take care everyone, catch you all later Josie

Tabitha

Tabitha Report 22 Dec 2010 13:40

Josie
what do you mean digging them out - we have had the thermals out for weeks

I don't need to google the images - i work with them all day - sending people off on hols next year - some of the places defy description

I will see if I can find a few links for people when I find a "Quiet moment"

Lovely day - sunny - but sooooooooooooooo cold

Still trying to clear our airports - no chance

Take care all

FRANK06

FRANK06 Report 22 Dec 2010 15:42

Hi all,

Still sunny and cold 0c but no more snow and as Josie points out we have snowploughs here.
Even as we flew in with only a couple of inches of snow on the ground we could see four snowploughs out on the main routes around Washington where as in Glasgow I did not see a plough or gritter for the first three days and we live on a bus route......

Now we'll just have to wait and see if we can get back home leaving 27th so with a bit of luck, we may be stuck here.

Whoohoo!!

Cynthia

Cynthia Report 22 Dec 2010 22:27

You sound as though you are enjoying yourself Frank. The plane journey sounded rather good but, there again, you need all the comforts you can get at your age.

Thank you for your concern re my pipes Josie. I have got it under control I think. As well as bashing it with the broom, I also stuck a bamboo cane up it as well and a load of ice and water came out. I was so pleased!

I have had a message from Sylvia and she too had a lovely journey but on a train of course! Her grandson is 'growing like a weed' and seems to like his grandma and grandpa.

I guess all the weather probs are affecting your business Anne? Those poor people stuck at the airports - they're looking more and more like refugees.

Have had a really busy day what with one thing and another. The grandchldren were here but they are no bother at all. It's just all the meal preparation and clearing up afterwards which seems to take so much time. The kitchen looked dreadful after they had gone and yet I wash up as I go when preparing......

So.....I am slightly(!) shattered and will bid you all a fond goodnight. Cx

Can't you just get on your broomstck.........oh, I forgot it's stuck in the central heating pipes.
Well just wiggle your nose like Samantha and all the housework will be done, I mean you housewives are all magicians anyway, aren't you.......

Hell dear friends,

I thought it high time I called in to say Hello and have just read from Susan on 19th to Anne 6 hours ago.

I can see you are all terribly busy and Susan and Josie have started their Christmas celebrations already. Frank has flown away to Washington to say Hi to his family there and Evelyn and Cynthia are very busy with preparations for family.

Robert - I can't believe that you're still in your shell - are you under a blanket of snow? Anyway I seem to remember that it is your birthday soon and send you my warmest birthday greetings.

Sylvia is away too and I hope all goes well with her trip - more snow Sylvia? We can't get away from it this year can we? Twice in one year does seem to be overdoing it!

Our grandchildren and their parents arrive tomorrow and elder son will join us on Saturday and I know we shall have a lovely time together with lots of reminiscing and fond memories.

My heartfelt thanks to all of you for your kind thoughts and messages and special greetings to each of you for a really enjoyable Christmas and New Year.

Love to all,

Reece
