Thanks Frank,

Glad I have someone on my side.

Evelyn Report 27 Nov 2010 13:13

Oh Frank its a wee bitty cold here in Guernsey as well, we have had snow but the roads are clear, just a dirty mush at the moment, some gardens and fields are still white and my dark blue car has changed colour, I dont think I shall venture far today.
How nice to hear from Josie again.
Do keep wrapped up warm Robert, is there anything you need in that shell of yours, hope you have a nice wooly hat.
There has been some more interest on my Trying to find mother thread who knows maybe she will be traced after all. at least we are back as far as 1927 now, that is 2 years further than ever before, I think it is wonderful that folk that dont even know me are so helpful, I am very grateful.
I hope the roads are O K around Ann,s area or her OH wont be earning again,
Careful how you go Cynthia and dont overdo it, you always seem so busy, glad you enjoy Strictly Come Dancing at least that makes you sit down for a while. I have enjoyed watching Widdy but now I feel it is time for her to go
Matt is very good isnt he and Scott, I somehow cant take to Gavin, he always looks as if he is about to nod off, I would love to see Kara win, who is your favourite Cynthia?
We have no newspapers or mail today as the airport is closed because of ice on the runway.
The house is nice and cosy as we have a multi fuel stove and the radiators turned on as well I also have my thermals on, what a sexy site that is.
Keep well my friends love to you all

I hope our Wayne is well

So far.......shhh........we do not have any snow.......shhh. It is very cold and was -5 when I took my granddaughter home at 6pm. We're keeping the central heating on all the time at the moment just to maintain the temperature.

Had a very busy day running a stall at our church fair. Granddaughter looked stunning dressed as a Chinese girl. Was so proud of her.

Dear Venerable Robert, I think you will have to prepare yourself for a small crowd gathering outside of your shell on 25.12. We will be singing Happy Birthday very lustily. You can just wave at us if that makes you feel better.

Hi Evelyn......I know what you mean about Widdy but........she was invited to join the show and people are voting for her so............??? As someone said to me on Friday, if the producers want people to take the show very seriously as a dance show, then they shouldn't invite people like John Sergeant and Widdy to take part. It's a difficult one really. I am not sure we would watch it if it weren't for the bit of fun with Widdy to be honest. I might, but not sure about OH. My favourite is probably Matt but I think Pamela is excellent for 61 - she did the splits tonight........cor! It takes me all my time to pick something up from the floor these days!

Can't believe it is only 9.15pm. Feels like I have been up forever!!

Going for a browse around.

Take care friends. Cx

Don't worry Robert, I'll be backing you up in spirit !

It will be just like the good old days when we used to open the window and shout that quaint little crowd clearing phrase.

..............GARDYLOO,

and let em have it :))

More snow for us tomorrow and Robert but it looks like Cynthia is getting away with it !

Kiwibird Report 28 Nov 2010 06:00

Hi Everyone,
am sitting here at my computer with the the late afternoon sunshine pouring through the window, temp 20 Celsius another beautiful Spring day.

Sorry to hear that it is a wee bit chilly up there in Scotland Frank.

Dear Venerable Robert as someone else who celebrates a birthday in December, I fully understand your desire to stay in your shell till January. It can all get a little bit to much.

As my OH turned 60 this month I decided to make a fuss of him this year as I did nothing for his 40th or 50th.
So he had a number of special treats and gifts throughout this month including going to see Bonny Tyler, in concert culminating with a Birthday Party last night.
drinks and nibbles followed by dinner at a neat place called the Cadillac Diner completely themed and decked out like an american 50's diner.

What he did not know and absolutely blew him away, was that I had hired a 1958 Cadillac Fleetwood 9 seater Limo to take us all to the Restaurant and drive us back afterwards.

As he has a passion for early american cars especially Cadillacs. Last night for him felt like all his Christmases had come at once.

Watching him jump into the Cadillac was like watching a small boy getting to climb on a Fire Engine.

Now his birthday is over I can start to think about getting organised for Christmas, first on the agenda is sending my Christmas cards which I will do in about a weeks time, unlike Susan my Christmas tree does not go up until the Twelve of December.

And this year I have decided to think outside the square when it comes to Christmas Dinner
I am getting to old to bother slaving all day in the kitchen for a family who pop in then out again, as they have invites to somewhere else and they are not hungry anyway. All for the sake of tradition
Last year OH and I went to a Restaurant for Christmas Lunch something we had not done in 26 years it was great.

This year we are going one better we plan to hop in the car drive down to KFC [Kentucky Fried Chicken, don't know whether you have this american takeaway in Britain?] they serve Turkey on Christmas day

we will buy a large pack and drive to the beach about half an hour away
and sit in the sand and the sun enjoying a 'downunder Christmas the way it should be no family squabbles or drunk relatives, no dishes no stress.
If anyone wants to join us, sorry you will have to find your own stretch of beach.

Catch you all again Josie

Hi Everyone

So glad to see the back of the Help Clinic,I can't see what good it did anyway.
Now if we can stop the boards from going to the Surname boards everytime we click into a thread we want to look at I will be happy.

Josie your idea sounds great for Christmas dinner,I could not get away with it as I have my family for Christmas dinner but later on I will deffinately give it a try when they no longer want to come here for Christmas.
I did not see KFC in England on my last trip, they may have it now,I am not a big fan of it but the OH loves it .

Hot day today,we have been making sure the Pool is up and running for Summer the kids love on Christmas day,we do have a problem with flies at present hope they dissapear before Christmas.

Cynthia -5 sounds very cold to me ,my sister says she is freezing in Yorkshire a very good chance of snow for Cristmas.

Cricket not too bad I think it will be a draw, the Englaish batsman have gone off for bad light.
Both sides are very similar, should be a good season and very close games .

I am off for a look around our comfusing boards.

Cynthia, you are living dangerously!!!

Thanks Frank, The "spirit" will be a good single malt?

Glad you know how I feel, Kiwibird.

FRANK06

FRANK06 Report 28 Nov 2010 14:01

That's the spirit Robert ;)

Plenty of snow here overnight and it looks lovely today.

On a trip up to the main street, I noticed that only one shop frontage has been cleared of snow and these are the same shopkeepers who were all complaining about the planned opening of a Tesco Express in the area.

Who has cleared the snow from their premises...............Tesco !

Tabitha

Tabitha Report 29 Nov 2010 13:09

Tesco are the only ones who can afford to pay someone to sweep their path - all the other poor shopkeepers have to do it themselves & lose business if someone comes in while they are out there clearing snow.

Robert you have to get in the party spirit (as well as the single Malt)

I am with Cynthia - we need a good party -

Evelyn lovely to see you up & about.

We had a few flurries of snow - however we should be in for a sledge load tomorrow & Wednesday - I hope most of it clears before the 10th as my little JONAH at home will call off our weekend break - even though all the money is non refundable etc

Why did I think it was a good idea to go to Beamish in early December - I think its all the extra work gone to my head aaaaaaaaagh

Josie - lovely to hear from you - amazing - my OH loved the idea -now i know what to get him if I can ever afford it.

Talking of strictly - i agree i don't think Patsy shoudl have gone this week - even if her foot was bad - it should have been Gavin - such a petulant child -

I think Ann & Anton should come out of the competition but give a demonstration dance each week & get votes from the judges & viewers - that way it keeps everyone happy - i did like the titanic this week & her comments are wonderful - poor Craige has met his match

Well back to the grindstone - just a quick visit - couldn't update yesterday as the Cat took over my lap & kept pawing at the keys as i tried to type - so no use disturbing him - he was my little furry hot water bottle

Take care all

Well Anne,

If shops want your custom, they should ensure that entrances and walkways are easily accesssible otherwise it is they and not the shoppers who will lose out.

When working nightshift in the garage, it was me who made a point of getting out the snow shovel and clearing the forecourt at three or four in the morning to ensure the safe and smooth running of the shop.

All of these shops open about 6.00 am and it takes two minutes max to clear away the snow from the shop frontage.

Cynthia

Cynthia Report 29 Nov 2010 19:28

Oh to have the late afternoon sun pouring through the window as Josie has!! We may be getting snow tomorrow .......arghhhh...

Today we have had no heat or hot water as our condensation pipe from the boiler has frozen. British Gas are hoping to come out in the morniing! Meanwhile, we are fortunate that we have a 2 bar electric fire to keep us cosy and the electric blanket will be going on early I think!

My poorly friend has, at last, been admitted to hospital and I am very relieved at that. Just waiting to hear from her son as to how things are going. My other friend, who had a bypass, came out today and is staying with his son. Life is made up of such ups and downs.

We do have KFC here but haven't been for years. Certainly different for Christmas Day I must admit.

Oh Robert.....I don't want to frighten you......but we would love to celebrate your birthday with you.

I'm fed up with Gavin Henson too.......but I don't want Widdy to go! Not sure OH would watch it if she went.........lol

Well, must go and put OH's eye drops in - his conjunctivitis is almost cleared but we had to get another prescription.

Love to all. Cx.

Hi Everyone

I see you are all in for a white Christmas from what I am seeing on TV.

I hope you don't get snowed in like last year.

We have it hot again today 34c,I hate the heat and love winter .

Cynthia I have just put my electric blanket away for the Summer,it did us proud this winter.
I did'nt think you would get froozen pipes in this day and age ,you would have thought they might have found something to stop that.
My sis in Yorkshire is very cold and she too is expecting snow this Christmas,I would love to be there for it but alas the money stops me and I think my family would not like it either, who would cook Christmas dinner

Cynthia I hope your friend does well a terrible time to be in Hospitol.

Anne Cricket was a draw,I think it is going to be a very even exciting series, good for cricket.
I was very impressed with Tesco when I can over last, they are very good stores and sell everything under the same roof, great bread in there stores too.

I am off shopping on my bike see you all later.

Hi all
xxx

Glad to hear that OH's eyes are clearing up, C. Now just make sure that you don't come down with it!

It is going to be a bad winter in the Northern Hemisphere I think.

So many of the houses in the UK still have pipes running down the outside ......... we almost never see that in Canada.

We have rain beating at the windows at the moment!

OH had another "date" at the dentist today ............. came home looking battered and bruised, not to say bloody! Credit card was also very badly battered as well!

This afternoon he made Quince Jelly ............... I supervised ......... which means he pops in to see me every 5 or 10 minutes asking is this right?, what do I do next?, am I doing it right?, etc

Then I helped him bottle 19 jars of the jelly ..... it had a lovely red colour to it.

Take care everyone

Sue, I really do not want a white Christmas to be honest. We wouldn't be able to get to my son's and would miss the kids opening their presents.

We had our heating fixed yesterday and it seems there is a new gizmo out to stop this outside pipe freezing. He had a good look round and admitted that there was no way this pipe could have been run indoors. It maybe because we chose to have the boiler in the small spare bedroom but I don't know. I just remember that it had to be on an outside wall.
Our winter fuel allowance will just cover the cost of this gizmo!!

Anyway, it's great to be warm again and to be able to have a hot shower and constant hot water again. We are so fortunate when I think of others who struggle with life.

Am trying to start writing my Christmas cards today - I do find it a chore I must admit. OH writes 2 I think.

Forgot to say that I bought a Shaun the Sheep backpack for 50p at the fair on Saturday. He has washed up a treat but my granddaughter looked at me and said "No way am I going out with you with that on your back!" I just bought it for a bit of fun to be honest. May use it as a peg bag or may just sit him on a chair. The choice is endless....lol

We had a light covering of snow yesterday but it seems we may get more later today. I am dreading it.

Love to all. Cx

Afternoon all from a very snowy Brighton

Last I heard my OH was still out teaching (mad fool - we need the cash) as he said they need to go out in it sometime.

We have an inch or 2 with Occasional flurries - had to canx our trip to Canterbury (so i am working instead - stupid idiot)

I am hoping we will not have to canx our weekend away next week as we lose the money - and I have booked special Christmas evening tickets as a surprise for him as he needs a treat. I am so going off the snow.

Frank you need to take care - you are not getting any younger

Have to wonder back to work - just had cake & sarnies from New York - so that was fun - we had Krispy Kreme doughnuts again this week

I must go on a diet next year - new years resolution - unilt the Krispy Kremes come round again.

Hope all the people in hospital get better soon

Take care all - no slipping up on the icy roads now

Hi Everyone

You all sound so cold ,not sure I like snow anymore myself I really feel for you all.

Our weather has turned cool again but I don't mind that so much just hate the 35c+.

I am hopeing to do some Christmas shopping this weekend ,may take the dau and dau in law with me so they can tell me what the Kids want this year ,I am hopeless and chooseing there gifts now.
Sure to get wrong cloths for the Girls and the boys well I would not buy them what they like to wear these days .

My neighbour is back in Hospitol again, his lungs are very bad ,he has emphasema and a bad heart .
They have him on an antibiotic for his lungs ,he picked up a staff infection when he was in Hospitol a few years agao and it has gone to his bad lungs ,just hopeing these antibiotics kill it off.

I am off shopping ,stay warm everyone.
I hope Robert is OK with all this snow

Anne I hope you can still go on your trip, don't work to hard.

Its 5am - its been snowing all night - well since at least 7pm - we have over a foot of snow - In the street light it looks like someone has sprinkled all that lovely white glitter around

The cat is wanting to go out - just had a very nasty shock - the snow is as deep as he is tall - he is not at all impressed - just said to him - "are you going out to play in the snow" looked at me turned tail & went back in front of the fire.

Oh for the joy to be able to do that - alas I have to think about getting ready to try & trudge to work - all down hill - my poor OH insists he goes with me - which means he has to trudge back up hill & vice versa on the way home - I know tomorrow will be a lot worse as it will be like a skating rink tomorrow - not at all what we need

I hear noise above - sounds like he is just getting up

Take care all - keep warm - keep safe
