Oh my goodness Sue - you've certainly being doing some sick visiting lately haven't you? Sad about your uncle over here and I hope your dad comes to terms with it gently. Hope all the others are well on the road to recovery now.

Arthur - I don't think we can enlarge our avatars on here. You would have to take a close of the kittens for us to get a larger view. It's a pity really because there are some interesting pictures around.

I have been sniffling and sneezing with a cold for the last couple of days but, at last, I think it is drying up. :-D

Will be really glad when it's 6th January and we can get back to normal. May put the tree up on Monday............such a killjoy!

My son is taking some of the family to Manchester this afternoon to visit the German markets.......hope they have a good time. Meanwhile, I will be watching Strictly and wondering who will be next to leave. It's been a very standard so far.

Going to drink my coffee now...........

See you all soon and love to all....Cx <3

Hi Everyone

Waiting for our dear neighbour to arrive home ,I am sure he is very excited about coming home.

Cynthia

I have been talking to my Uncle in Gloucester and he tells me it is freezing over there and he too has been quite sick with the flu.

Over here it is the reverse and older people get sick and sometimes die as a result of the heat so we keep a close watch on the MIL...she will not have air con and just gets by with her ceiling fans.

Better get back to the cricket Australia playing Sri Lanka,we are doing OK ;-)

Love to you all <3 :-D

Kiwibird Report 17 Dec 2012 20:52

Hi Everyone, Thought it was time to come out of hibernation :-D

My computer decided to finally die on me. Was able to get a second hand one, my Son who is a Computer Nerd said he would be able to put my old hard drive into it.
However when he did this he discovered that the old hard drive was damaged and I thought I had lost all my data and Family Tree photos.

Luckily, while I had copies of my Family Tree on my hard drive. My main tree's are sitting on the Web.

A friend of ours said all was not lost and that he could save everything off the hard drive. So finally in Oct I had a computer with all my data on it again.

My OH is still out of work, he has been to a couple of job interviews that looked promising but missed out in each occasion to younger men. He has become very despondent and has given up job hunting.

Living with my 'wall to wall' as I put it , is very draining, as he is so negative. I am glad I have had about 20-28 hours of work a week over the last couple of months, so that I can get out of the house.

My Son who moved out of Home in July, unfortunately moved back in, in November.

I was just starting to enjoy the benefits of just being a couple again.

Though his moving back in has some much needed financial benefits and he his more helpful around the house then he ever was before.

It is Summer here now and the temp is around 20C-22C every day while it is great to have the sun and warmth, there is also high humidity some days which makes it oppressive and causes the osteoarthritis in my knees to play up. And walking anywhere becomes a real physical undertaking.

Also doing Christmas baking is exhausting when the temp in the kitchen is close to 30C.

There are definite benefits to having Christmas in the winter time as most of you do.

As usual I am rushing to get all my Christmas preparations done in the last week,
Christmas Tree should have gone up 5 days ago, cards should have been posted, baking should have been finished. Ha HA

I came down with a nasty stomach virus at the beginning of Dec, then it was my birthday, another year older yuk!! and for the first time in decades I was invited to a couple of Christmas functions. So I have effectively lost 2 weeks.

It's hard to believe that Christmas Day is only a week away today and only 2 weeks to the end of 2012.

Oh well back to my Mince pies and shortbread baking.

Take care and keep warm. In Sue's case keep cool.

Catch you all later Josie :-) :-) :-) <3 <3 <3

Josie - lovely to have you back with us again - sorry to hear your troubles

I too know how you feel as MY OH was more at home than at work for nearly 2 years - & we have just about struggled through - no fit young son to help us out -

However we did have the occasional fuel bill helped out by the outlaws & i had some much needed overtime - only down side was i was never at home & constantly feel very tired. He got very very depressed for months - if you need to talk you know where to find me.

We are still very lucky & seem to keep healthy (apart from the OH winter cold).

Sally - are you Ok were you not feeling well

I am very sad to lose Lisa - she did a lot to buck us all up she was so bubbly - but she was the right one to go as the others did have the knowhow & were better dancers - it made me cry too when she started on Sunday - it was so sad.

At least she will be back next week as they all do a few mins in the final.

Well better go -

I have a look round our new office this afternoon we will be on the 5th floor - but no sea view - never mind it would have been a distraction - i will content myself with looking out our spare bedroon window.

From there we look out over the town (lovely at night with all the twinkling lights) & down to the sea in the distance - and up over to the countryside & Cissbury ring - on a clear day you really can see for miles.

Take care all <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 ;-) ;-) ;-) ;-) ;-) ;-) ;-)

Change of Thought

Anyone watch "Last Tango in Halifax" over the last few weeks

Most of the script was teriffic - a couple of the weeks were a bit slow in a lot of places & I lost interest for a short time - but the last two nights it all stired up. It was really nice to see a programme with actors who could actually act - not just read a script & walk about a bit. I do think its more a girls thing really - but it did keep you wondering what was going to happen next - I wont spoil it for anyone who is playing catch up - but there is going to be another series Phew :-) :-) :-)

If it gets to the other side of the world - make sure you get to watch it if you like a nice family story with a twist. Derek Jacobi - Anne Reid - Sarah Lancashire and other good actors - Derek Jacobi was a real scene stealer like Dame Maggie is & Anne Reid had a real twinkle in her eye - she has proved what a fantastic actor she is.

A few weeks before I saw "The Paradise" also with Sarah Lancashire in & she was so much better in this one.

Anyway enough of the local TV review & back to work.

Take care all <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3

I went to school with Derek Jacobi and he was a terrific actor even then.

I acted with him in Hamlet. When the play went to the Edinburgh Festival they had girls from the Girls Grammar school playing the female parts and I was ousted. Very non Shakespearean.

We all knew he was destined for greatness.

Hi all....popped in to catch up with everyone's news.......a very mixed bag of news indeed.

I'm more or less finished for Christmas I think - just a few bits and bobs. We are hoping to go to our son's for Christmas lunch but it seems they are suffering from bad colds at the moment..... :-(

We finally put our Christmas tree up on Monday because the grandchldren were coming on Tuesday. Up it went, plus a few decorations..and blow me.....they were poorly and didn't come.......typical!!

Sylvia has gone to visit her daughter and will be away for at least a couple of weeks I think.....hope she has a wonderful time. :-D

Arthur - what a wonderful thing to have known Derek Jacobi. We haven't watched the Halifax series but remember him so well in his various classical roles. A great actor and seems like a very nice man.

Ah well........I'd better get moving on.

Love to you all.........Cx <3

Tabitha Report 21 Dec 2012 06:08

Arthur - how wonderful - did you watch the show?

He looks a lovely genuine person.

Cynthia - loads of people with colds all around us - OH still not that well & its been over 2 weeks now - due to go to the outlaws tomorrow but not sure if we should due to his cold.

If the "Last Tango" gets a repeat you should give it a go Cynthia

Take care all

Hello friends,

I wanted to wish you all a very Happy Christmas and a good New Year to follow.

Unfortunately, I can't sit at the computer for more than about five minutes as I now have disc problems in my spine. I am making a slow recovery though.

Arthur, I have just read your message about Derek Jacobi - were you taught by a wonderful English teacher named Joe Meltzer? He taught Derek and when Derek was knighted he wrote to congratulate him and had a really lovely letter back. Sadly, Joe is no longer with us but was one of our dearest friends and I especially miss him and his dear wife Claire. They, too, had a most engaging cat!

Happy Christmas one and all.

Love,

Reece<3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3

Reece

I do hope you back improves. My father suffered from a slipped disc in his back and I remember how painful it was.

I was not taught by Joe Melzer, but I do remmber him - a large man with large hair. I was taught by Bobby Brown who was responsible for the plays and by Mr Fitzhugh. Happy days.

I would like to take this opportunity to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and let us hope that 2013 will be better than 2012.

Hi everyone

Just got a moment on the computer .................... actually OH's laptop hooked up to son-i-l's computer. Everythings's different, so you'll have to bear with me.

It's snowing today .................. the others have gone out now the littlie has woken from his nap, but I'm staying home with the cats :))

We had a good trip out, and met loads of nice people. Some of them will be on the same train from Toronto on Dec 28 as us.

We were delayed on every section of the trip across the country .............. once becasue someone ahd reported "a man on the tracks", and the railway police wouldn't let our train leave the station until they had checked it out!

Not sure when I will get back on the 'puter as we leave on the train again on the 28th

Merry Christmas everyone

It's 9.30pm Christmas Eve and I am sitting here with all the windows and doors open and a fan on my back. It soooo hot.

Today's high was supposed be 24C instead it reached 28C and is currently sitting at 23C.

A massive tropical cyclone hit Samoa then Fiji last week and then headed straight for NZ,
the upper part of the Country has been effected with very heavy rain and severe thunder storms. And the moist hot air meeting colder air coming from the south Caused Sea fog to roll in and close down the airport at 4 pm Yesterday. A rare occurrence for Wellington.

Well I wanted to write more but I'm to hot, so I will wish each one of you a Happy day tomorrow.
