Happy memories of my visit to Ballarat many many years ago.

I feel as though I am on another planet..........I've never been to any of the places you mention - actually - I've only been abroad 2 or 3 times. Yugoslavia (as it was) was my first and only flight and that was 25 years ago!

After that, I have only been on coach trips to Germany.


Such a sheltered life I led!! :-D We always had holidays in GB when the children were small and couldn't afford to do much else. Mind you, we've seen some beautiful scenery and visited some wonderful places.


When I was little, my holidays were spent going 'down South' to Kent and Buckinghamshire where my grandparents lived. It was the only time we saw them so I can understand my parents wanting to visit and see relatives.


I don't think I'm too bothered by my lack of overseas experience 'cos I've made up for it in other ways with the people I've met and the life I've led. :-)



My word, it was cold here yesterday.......brrrrrrrr It's mild this morning but pouring with rain. Very flexible weather...... ;-)



Evelyn's mother is becoming a legend. There are bits of work going on in the background as various leads are looked at and then discounted with a sigh :-(
Some day, some time, we will get a lead. Keep hoping Evelyn...... :-D

Hi Everyone

Cynthia I live in OZ and I have never been to these places so don't feel to left out,I don't think people realise just how big Australia is .

I have been watching the storms in the us ...it is all over our TV continual.

It looks very bad , I do hope it all calms down soon but I think it will be days if not weeks to get back to normal with all the damage I have seem on TV.

We were to have had a lot of rain today but it has petered out.

Started to have more trouble again with the tree I do wish they would hurry up and get things sorted and i do not think it is all about those who use XP IE 8 either as some members are using FireFox ,chrome and others and are still having problems .
You would think after all this time it would be all sorted by now.

Are weather is warming up now ...not looking forward to Summer as it just gets to hot at times.

Going to try and add to my tree again....hope it works this time.

HAPPY HALLOWEEN

I am all set for my little visitors tonight - I have made up 12 bags of mixed sweeties & have the odd extra bit - funsize chocs incase I get more - 4 years running we had nothing then in 2010 when I didn't have anything we had 3 visits - last year it was a continual drip of people - so I was sort of prepared.

Our last visitor was a girl from the end of the road OH taught her to drive - she was going round with her brother & little girl (aged 2) & his little boy (18 mths) she was a witch & he was a pumpkin

I said to her would you like some sweeties "no thank you" mummy said yes you do - so I put some in her plastic pumpkin - then I said to the little lad - you look lovely what a nice pumpkin & he burst into tears on me - daddy said he wanted to be a toffee apple but couldnt find a costume - so I gave him some sweets & said I thought he was a lovely toffee apple - rewarded by a big smile

All ready tonight to ask him what he is this year

Just been given a doughnut as a reward for clearing our desks ready for the move to the new building in January - they want us to be like battery hens - nothing personal on your desks - we have to in the new building - but most of us are going to wait till Christmas & then take our things home.

With a bit of luck - once we are in the building for a few months they will forget we should be battery hens and let us be people again.


Cynthia - I never left the UK when i was younger my first trip abroad was when I was 26 - if I had more cash i would still be travelling around

Well as i thought - no-one turned up on me - so I have a tin of Milky Way minis and 12 bags of sweets siting looking for a home

I can demolish the Milky Way - but I dont like the sweets - anyone have any ideas?

It was far too windy last night for flying so had to put the Nimbus 2000 away again - OH got the power hoover out for me instead - lovely full moon he got some good silhouette's of me for the photo album

Hi Everyone

Anne ..not a big thing here with Halloween a few years back we used to get a few children that came around but not anymore.

I don't think it is safe now to go door to door doing it ,shame but there it is .

We are back to Winter mode at present so much rain but as bit warm with it so sticky.

Oh is still off work with his neck ...waiting for the hospital to tell us when his Op is planed ,that is like pulling teeth to get a strait answer.

Has anyone got the new Windows 8 yet I.... have seen it now ..it does look a lot different to what we are used to.
I am hoping Genes gets these issues fixed soon,it is taking way to long .

There seem to be a lot of very unhappy people out there,the tree is quicker but it is a nightmare to add to it .

These new places they have for the births in the tree,I go to add the places of birth and it does not save them unless I choose one of the places in the drop down list ,If I try to put my own in it won't save it GRRRR :-|

Can't afford to update computer at the moment but I will do it,I need another stick of Ram to run Windows 8 so I have to wait a little while.

Cynthia I found FireFox no faster than XP IE8 or Chrome for that matter did not like that at all.

Another lot of rain coming through ,my relies in the UK tell me you are all getting a lot of rain to .

I wonder how Robert and his Wife are ,it has been a while since we heard from him.

It is 4.20 late afternoon here so I am off for a nice hot bath ...feeling a bit cold now .

Sue, I don't really think that you need to do anything drastic to your computer re the tree on here and certainly don't need to spend any money.


I've just tried adding a fictitious joe bloggs to my tree and putting his place of birth as where I live. It didn't recognise the local area but did recognise the town.

This is similar to Ancestry and, you can always add the local area to your notes.



I've enjoyed playing around with the new Keepsafe feature too. I just click here and there and see what happens...... :-D



I'm helping someone look for names from WW1 and so have been concentrating there. It's so sad to be reminded just how young some of the soldiers were.



My OH suddenly decided that we could go out for lunch today. I wasn't going to say NO was I???? It's good that he will do this because, he seemed to lose his confidence and we didn't go to restaurants for several months. He was concerned in case he got the shakes or started the Parkinson's movements. It's all worked fine so far :-D :-D



My bedrooms are cleaned - no cooking - my time is my own for a while :-D :-D

Hello friends,

I'm going through a really "bad patch" - illness and this week B. Gas has made a mess of my boiler and central heating - resulting in water flowing from the loft onto two ceilings and the architrave around the bathroom door! I called my Insurance Company at 7.00 this morning and they sent a really nice person who got up in the loft and sorted out the leak problem. Now I must wait for everything to dry out before restoration.

Had a nice surprise when I found one of my George Morris's, who has been giving me a bit of a headache on the tree. Record arrived this morning from NSW and now I know which is which, at last. One of his descendants married one of my Morris relatives (first cousin) in 1935. Can't find great uncle George though. Did he go to America?

Anne - perhaps a charity event at one of the schools for the sweetie bags? I'm afraid that I stayed in bed when the doorbell rang - hope they weren't children who knew me! The move sounds a bit daunting Ann, I think more than a doughnut will be required!

Sue - gosh still cold - and it is November. Yes, cold here too, and a frost last night. I had some lovely photos from my niece who is over in WA right now.

I wonder who will be President of the USA this time tomorrow?

Another four years for Obama ,I like him and i think he will do a good job ...we have to remember George Bush left him with some big bills to pay .

We are off to Perth for the weekend leave tomorrow ,we have a lot of people to visit.
I hatre going up to Perth but just have to grin a bere it I guess.

My Cousin in the UK had three strokes on Saturday so he is in Hospitol ..a bit of a worry as he is only 63 years young.
This is the worst thing about living the other side of the world,you cannot aleways get there in time .

Reece so sorry to hear you are having a bad time ,you are lucky to have a good insurrance company that wants to help you a lot don't want to know you when they have already got your money.

Try to stay possitive and remember you can always come on hear and talk to any one of us , I am sure one of us can cheer you up

Just returned from a wonderful week with 4 friends in Greece. The weather was fantastic with temperatures always above 20C and on one day it reached 27C.
We visited the Peloponnese to see the flowers, Crocus, Narcissus, Sternbergia and Colchicum. Lack of rain meant the numbers were reduced, and in some cases had not yet started into growth - we did see all we had expected.

We did have monsoon rain as we drove to our first hotel - had to stop driving at one point as it was so bad, but next day brilliant sunshine.

On our last day it also rained - just to get us in the right frame of mind for chilly UK.

On the day before we left, I had to have my cat Gemma put to sleep. She was 18 and appeared to be going blind. She suffered two huge fits and I took her to the PDSA Hospital in Gillingham at 2.00am. On reflection I am glad I was there at the end, but it was a shock.
Now waiting to hear if I am going to get a kitten (or two kittens). A cat had 6 kittens and then died, so they have been hand reared by a nurse at the PDSA.
Have always been a cat lover and miss her terribly.

Oh Arthur - how sad for you -at least you were with her - I am sure she had a wonderful life with you & was a very good age - started me thinking about mine I loved & lost - they were all very young compared to yours.

That poor cat at the PDSA must have been in a very bad way - I hope you get one or 2 of the kittens - I love cats & dogs equally - would love another dog but not until we havve the chance to be home a good while - at the moment with us both working.

i am so pleased the weather has changed for remembrance day - cold & crisp - just watching the service on the BBC.

Hi Everyone

Back safe and sound from the big smoke.

We had a really nice time but Oh got a bit upset ,we went to see where he grew up and his old house was knocked down four weeks ago so we had to go and tell his Mum today.
I thought she would be upset but she took it well.

We are not to keen on going up to Perth as the traffic is terrible and everyone is in such a hurry it is scary.

Two of our Grandsons mates were in a terrible traffic accident over the weekend and they got badly injured...I am so glad Jayden was not with them,kids today do not see the danger in driving fast ...this kid flipped the car at 140 Klm's an hour on a country Road,nobody found them until four hours later.
Tried to miss a kangaroo and got injured there selves.

I am unpacking now so come back later.

Oh Sue - you are going through a rough patch too

How is your cousin in the UK? - are the boys seriously hurt? What a good job Jayden wasn't with them - he has had enough in his life already - unless i am confusing him with someone else.

I am assuming Perth is as busy as London - but bigger - we have enough problems here - our busy main A road - has loads of nasty bends on it & some of the youngsters go too fast & flip over & a twice now onto the other side of the dual carriageway.

Trouble is, its not only themselves who get injured/killed - one such car of 3 young lads & 2 girls flipped and took out a people carrier (SUV) going the other way with 4 young children in it - All that was left was one of the young girls who had a seatbelt on in the back of the car & the father & baby from the SUV - all the others died. All this was before they even got to the party & not one had been drinking or taking drugs, they were all under 20.

One of the mothers said it wasn't her sons fault - it was the road at fault - they should have straightened it out years ago - you should have heard the uproar from the locals. My OH said imagine how fast they would have gone on a straight bit of road. We drive it all the time & some of the cars go at such a speed round the bend - but we have no idea how he flipped the car. The only survivor couldn't remember anything.

Its all so sad - they should limit the engin size the young people can drive for the first few years - it may stop this sort of thing.

Well on that soapbox note - I should go back to work.

HI Everyone

Anne my cousin is doing OK ,he did manage to get an Ambulance himself but had another Stroke when they arrived and another in the Hospital.
He is very lucky because they managed to give him the correct meds to help him and it looks like he has no lasting problems ...I am still waiting to hear how he is now so will let you know .

The boys accident ,one has two broken legs two broken arms Punctured lung and bleeding on the Brain.
The other one has lost his spline ,broken leg and head injuries,he has not woken up yet the other boy has.
We are so glad Jayden had the good sense to not go with them and to top it all off they stole the car from one of the boys sister.
They are both 15 yrs old ...so stupid but at that age they think they know it all .
Anne your other half is correct imagine how fast they would go if the road was strait.

London is a lot bigger than Perth city but the drivers in this country are so impatient and agro,drive as fast as they can get away with...we in the country drive a lot slower and we are plesent to one another...no agro.

It is nice to be back home safe and sound.

Just finished dinner so dishes are waiting for me...try to get back later.

On a brighter note, I will be collecting two kittens tomorrow - both female and both black & white. They have been hand reared as the mother died shortly after birth.

I always get uneasy when I see a car full of youngsters zipping along. You can almost guarantee that the driver is out to impress.......so much sadness caused whenever there is an accident. :-(

Sue, it's a shame to see houses where you have once lived being demolished but I guess there isn't much anyone can do about it. Your OH's mother sounds a sensible lady. :-D

Also, my OH celebrated his 76th birthday yesterday and the family came round for an informal meal which was lovely..... :-D

Usually you look at the kittens/puppies and think of a name especailly if they have wonderful markings

My friends cats are called Rhubarb & Custard (they are white) & the dogs are called Mac & Tosh (black & white scotties) - the other cat is called Mando - think about that one

Had lunch at Fortnum & Mason today - it was lovely I can recommend it

Fillet of Highgrove Beef & Oxtail rissoles amazing gravy & to finish Pecan pie & Ice cream with a couple of glasses of very nice house Burgundy

I can guarantee the beef was out of this world & I agree once you try it you dont want any other

We watched the butcher cutting up the beef - so clever

Thanks for the suggestions.

I collected them from a very caring veterinary nurse who has done outstanding work in hand rearing 5 kittens after the mother died.

They are house trained, clean themselves, not afraid of the hoover or TV and are totally unafraid.

I have never laughed so much seeing these tiny little bundles of fur chasing each other around my lounge.

One decided that climbing my leg was an adventure and leapt about 18 inches up my leg and clung there. I helped to reach my shoulder where she purred nonstop whilst nibbling my ear.

As they are nearly identical, I have named them Nicki - after the nurse - and Vicki after the vet.

Have not done a thing today, must be more disciplined tomorrow as I have lots to do.

Nicki and Vicki! Love it. :-D


Sounds as though you are having lots of fun Arthur.......don't worry about not getting anything done but just make the most of the pleasure you are getting from your kittens.


It looks a beautiful November morning from where I am sitting - sort of grey but sunny....if that makes sense!


I am gradually whittling down my Christmas list and must soon turn my hand towards writing cards. The cost of postage is really high and I am thinking of cutting my list down but, who do you miss out without offending.........? :-S



I took my friend out for a coffee yesterday and she really enjoyed it. It seems as though our next trip may be for new bathroom curtains for her and she is thinking about buying a countertop oven so that she can do more for herself...... .... she has improved so much :-D :-D :-D
