Reece Report 24 Sep 2011 08:54

Good morning friends,

Popped in to say all good wishes to Sylvia for a comfortable recovery after the operation and hope all is going well. The Pink Boa must be a help! My younger grand daughter would love one of those - pink is her favourite colour but then so is mauve/lilac/purple!

Belated birthday greetings to Anne -remember the parties we used to have on our birthdays? All gone....have a great weekend in Wiltshire and enjoy the rest of the week, too. What happened on your visit to London?

Trying to sort through our books to give some away -it is hard to do, isn't it? I mean which to keep, which to give away.

Masses of bags full to overflowing with ivy cuttings waiting for the green recycling on Tuesday - they might need more than one lorry(?) or I might have to wait another week. Now for the fence repair man (he went up a ladder at home in his flip-flops and fell off breaking his arm!) so I must wait.

Off to help with a fund raising strawberry tea for children in Africa this afternoon. It is a lovely morning so do hope it continues for the rest of the day.

Evelyn, sending all good wishes for you and Ron and well done - thanks to Ginny and Persephone for help with our ever mysterious computers.

~~~~~~~to everyone
Love, R<3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3
Hi Everyone
It is nice to see a few more faces popping in ,everyone is welcome on here.
Cynthia that is wonderful news on Sylvia being home already,I do hope she can come on line soon ,I don't think I would be as brave as she has been and to go through it all twice...god bless her.
My visitor is still here and it looks like I will be driving him back home to Perth on Tuesday.
Our football team played today in the semi Finals but alas we lost so our football season is over until next year but I welcome the Cricket now...the OH does not get so vocal with that..
Anne the Sharks over here are protected by law even if they kill a person ,the ocean according to the powers that say we are entering into there territory,stupid if you ask me .
When the holidays start they will have to do something because this 5mtr White pointer is a man eater and during the holidays this town is very busy and the water is full of families with lots of children playing on the Beach ....sorry to say I can see more deaths the way the Sharks are getting more and more game to come close to shore.
We have already told out lot to stay out of the Water just in case.
So much for living next to a lovely protected bay,now the Sharks have control of it.
I am off to get dinner ready Spaghetti Bog tonight that should keep the natives happy......and it was easy for me to make too.
Love to everyone
Big hug for Sylvia .....we miss you. <3
Good morning friends............it sounds as though Reece is having a really good sort out! When we downsized we had to get rid of a lot of books too and it's amazing how attached you can become to some of them! I mean, why on earth have I kept a rather tattered collection of Famous Five books??????
Something needs to be sorted about the shark situation Sue.....it sounds as though things are getting out of control with the powers that be re rules and regs.
Here is the latest update from Sylvia.....
Things are slowly getting better. I did create some worry in the hospital as my blood pressure would not come down.
It started at 183 just before the operation
reached over 200 on post-op
got as high as 227 on the ward late on Tuesday afternoon.
I did not have any other symptoms, such as headaches, etc, and felt pretty OK ............ having had very high bp before, I know how rotten it can make you feel!
They called in an internist, who prescribed another bp medication, but thought I should go home the next day as I might well feel better at home
........... with the caveat that I had to keep taking my own bp, and go to my own doctor or emergency if it did not come down.
Fortunately it is ................. highest now is 170, but it has been down in the 130s.
A Public Health nurse comes on Monday and Thursday to change the dressing,and will do any other necessary things, such as removing the staples.
Staple removal should be some time next week .... 7-10 days after the op,hopefully!
I am stapled up from here to eternity!
shouldn't fall apart any time soon!!
I see the surgeon on October 31st and will know then whether I will need any further treatment.
Glad to know all is going to plan. Hopefully she will be back with us as soon as she can type with more than one finger!
We continue to send her our love....
Lovely to hear you are "on the mend" Sylvia and send all good wishes to you and hope that you will soon be up and about. I'm sure that your OH is taking good care of you, too.
News from my Canadian b-i-l in Sydney to say the temperature hit 33C a day or so ago and then a cold front hit with torrential rain.
Very wise not to go into the water, Susan - I member just how terrified we used to be as children at the beach when sharks were to be seen. When P and I were on the Barrier Reef there were small grey sharks around.
Love to everyone
Hi all
Thank you everyone <3 <3 <3
Reece ...... he is taking excellent care of me!
Progress is being made ........ I can now type with 2 fingers, one on each hand!
I have to keep the upper part of my left arm tightly pressed against my body, but can move the lower part enough to get one finger to the keyboard!
OH's sister is down here staying with her son, but we are expecting her to visit later this morning. She leaves on Friday for a week in England .............. visiting their cousin who is fighting a recurrence of breast cancer.
I'm also waiting for the nurse to come, it's change-the-dressing day!
Dear Sylvia Wonderful that all went well and you are recovering.
Hi Anne, still nothing much on the job front, but have been lucky to get temp work over the last 3 weeks.Between 10 and 20 hours.
working at Muffin Break out here in Porirua.
This was the Cafe Chain that I was made redundant from Feb last year.
Have got a nasty dose of the Flu at the moment.. Thankfully the daytime temps are getting a lot warmer and sitting in the sun is making me feel a lot better.
Hi to all the new people who have popped in to visit, hope you will keep popping in.
Nice to see you Evelyn and Reece.
and Robert I knew you couldn't stay away!!
Take care catch you all later Josie :-) :-) :-) <3
Hi all
xx
Josie ...... sorry to hear that you have the flu. Hope you feel better soon xxx
and I'm keeping my fingers crossed re the job situation.
1 week progress report .......
Things are gradually improving.
I still have an untold number of staples in an incredibly long incision, and a drain. Hopefully, the drain will be removed on Thursday, and then I can have a SHOWER on Friday
If not, then I will have to wait until Monday ......... and have the first celebratory shower on Tuesday
I have made an appointment with my hairdresser for this afternoon to get my hair WASHED. Oh JOY!
I still have to keep my left arm close against my body, to provide some support ................. and also as a reminder NOT to make many movements!
BUT ... I can now move my left forearm and hand with more ease and without causing too much discomfort, so I can ....................... now type with 3 fingers .......... one of which is on my left hand!
I went out yesterday for the first time ...... for afternoon coffee. The coffee shop owners gave me a free latte. as a welcome back.
This has not been the most enjoyable time, but we're getting there!
Thank you everyone for your support, and good wishes.
Hi Everyone
Sylvia what a brave soul you are ,I really admire you for the way you don't let things get you down...so refreshing to hear.
Getting out and about I imagine would be the best thing to do in the circumstances.
Stay well.
Josie sorry to hear you are not too well and pleased to hear you have at least got some part time work to tied you over,something will come up I am sure of that.
Well my visitor has finally gone home ,he is my Dads second Cousin and he has only just got over Bowl Cancer so he is still very sick and he has lost a Lot of weight but he is 82 and I can tell you now he is very cantankerous,bad tempered and likes a lot of his own way ,I do care about him but the last 6 days have been very difficult for my OH and myself and I was very glad to take him home yesterday all be it 240klm there and the same back home again so the first night with out him here was glorious.
I am just checking all my computer out because my visitor did like to take control of it even my Skype ,he was calling my contacts on it and they did not know him from a bar of soap.
Think it may be a while before I invite him back again I am afraid.
Cooking my Oh a nice roast dinner today getting back to normal.
My love to everyone ,be back tonight.
Hi all
xxx
oh, Sue, what a week you've had! xxxxxxx
we've had that kind of visitor before ................ and while you love them, they are sooooooooooooo hard to deal with!
My brother's widow is somewhat similar, only she is computer illiterate, so I wouldn't have that problem
She hasn't been here for at least 6 years, and will never come again (she's 81, and lives in the UK). But the last time she stayed here, she said she'd love to come again ................... but not when we were here :-S
She later told one of her daughters that we hadn't been too receptive to her suggestion ................... and S said "well, think about what you said!" :-D
The gales have blown on through, and now we have a mini-heatwave!
That's a classic comment Sylvs! I would love to have seen your face when it was actually said to you! :-D
Poor Sue.......what a time you have had! I really don't envy you your visitor one little bit. It sounded like a nightmare of a stay. Hope you recover from your experience soon.........
We have had a glorious day today - plenty of washing out on the line.
I put most of my summer clothes away and then we get a heatwave....typical!
There is a flurry of activity on our Evelyn't thread with some more ideas being thrown into the melting pot.....I am spending some time on that in order to help ease the pressure on Fans. I am just the 'gof-er' really :-D
Love to all. Cx
Hi Everyone
Thank You for your understanding ,I feel really terrible feeling the way I do about my visitor but he really got me down more so than my OH but then he was not the one running around after him .
He did call me yesterday and told me he had put on 2.5 kl's while he was with us so that made me feel better so I told him he has to look after himself better in that case ....he just could not be bothered cooking for himself.
Sylvia you sound up after your ordeal.....continued progress a little bit everyday,wonderful to have you back.
Washing again today,the rain has eased a bit but it is on its way back for Sunday so trying to get all washed and dry by then.
Better get into it.
Hi Everyone
Very quiet on the thread ,I hope everyone is fine .
Hot today ,they say we are to get 25c today so I am out in the garden...picked up some fertilizer yesterday ,must feed my Roses as it is the growing season coming up.
We have our Grand Final Football for Australia today so will watch a bit of that even though our team got knocked out last week but we did make it to the Semi final....better luck next year.
Drop in later tonight.
Have a good weekend .
Cynthia Report 1 Oct 2011 08:11
Hi anyone who is around :-S
It's strange that our weather is coinciding Sue - we're supposed to have a hot day too! Apparently, according to the tv, some plants do not know whether they are coming or going because the weather is so confusing.
I took my once poorly friend out and back to her house for an hour on Thursday. She is hoping to go home between the end of October and the beginning of November and a care package is being set up for her.
She asked me to pack up a pile of toys which her grandchildren used to play with when she cared for them so I am off to the charity shop this morning!
My daughter has started her Christmas shopping and I think I will begin to get the 'voucher' bit done. I'm sure the recipients won't mind if they aren't in a Christmassy wallet :-D
Hope all are well and that Anne has enjoyed her rest......special waves to Ven. Robert ~~~~~~~~~
Nurse came about 3 hours ago
52 staples later, the nurse says .................
"I have never before removed so many staples"
she even wondered if the staple gun had "gone wrong" as there were so many very close together in one area
Trust me!
Drain still in
