Again, that would make sense, but that is one hell of a mistake on the census, whether the family error or the enumerator? As I couldn't find him in 1901 but can in 1911. I thought Emmie may have been a pet version of Emma. So there you are, I've learnt something else! As my great grandad wrote on the 1911 census that there were nine children born to his parents. But neither of them appear on that census. I think I have a death for Sarah but not Henry snr.

How many children does it say they had in 1911 and who long have they been married?

There is so much room for error on the census. The census schedule was either filled in by the household or the enumerator and then copied into the books we can view. You can see how mistakes could creep in.

Rose,

My great grandad is down as head of the household, and all his brothers were listed as his sons! one being older than himself! Lol!

So I don't know where his Dad was, as when my Great Grandad William married in 1913 his Dads name appears on the MC.

Rose,

Very true, mistakes easily happen, and poor handwriting wouldn't help either. Strike yajy last bit, I just guessed she died in the census year, as I don't have any freebmd ref in her notes. Unless I forgot to write it down.

Ozi,

Thank you for that. Wouldn't Willaims MC state Father deceased if he were dead? As his MC doesn't say that his Dad is dead.......but where was he on the 1911 census? Someone had suggested debtors prison as a possibility....but when I've looked at 1911 census I haven't been able to find conclusive evidence of his whereabouts!
