Unique Surnames...Anyone else have them

Hey. My last name is Ormston and it's pretty unique in West Midlands. There are much more up north, but I haven't seen many of these ormstons. Has anyone seen an Ormston? I'd love to know. |

My unique names are DE VERDIS and NUMENN. I thought I had a great-grandfather with the very common name of CHARLES NEWMAN, but discovered last week that he had changed it from CARLES NUMENN (father JOHANN). Sounds Germanic? Yours a bit confused Helen |

Had a look at this thread as I am researching Creswick, which are few and far between. Thought I would have a quick look to see how many there are on the 2001 Electoral Register (I really should get a life). Anyway thought some of those who contributed would like to know. Surnames can defintely be fun. I have a Quaife and can find no records. My surname Geeson also comes in for a lot of different spellings: Geeson Geesin Geesing Geesen pronounced with hard and soft Gs great when you are trying to pin someone down! Ive had different spellings in the same family |

I have, MATHERON and FOSE both French and a Matheron lost his head by Guillotine for being an anti-revolutionary. Looking for Etienne Matheron now in France. No more Matherons or Fose on site except mine so far. Also have most of the HENNELL family on here and a lot to put on yet. An Alexander-Scott. No more on site yet. Sandra |

You're all going on about having unique surnames because there are only one or two on GC. I don't want to disillusion you but have you ever thought that it is because it takes TOO LONG to put all the names on. eg there are 20 HEELS on GC 16 belong to me is this name unique no? I have a lot more to enter on the tree but it will just take too long likewise the name PINCHESS there are 61 on GC I have 44 on my trre and another 250 sitting in a file at home- it would just take to long to put them all on. One thing I will say about the name PINCHESS is that there are only 82 on the electoral role for the whole Country so that does sound pretty unique to me. |

My unique surnames are TAZEY.. STANGROOM...THRUMBLE I thought it would be easier searching the more unusual names, but no, its a nightmare!!, but I also have BARNES/ARMSTRONG/YOUNG and that is a challenge too! Angie |

Sandra Sorry if it sounded like a put down - it wasn't meant to be - but it could confuse some people who have only been tracing their tree for a short time. As somebody else said there are variations in spelling as well to take into consideration eg. Pinchess,Pinches, Pincher, Pinchefs, Pinchers, Princess to name but a few Janet xxx |
