Mike Have been thinking ..... always dangerous! We need to get the Leicester Mercury interested in running a weekly page on reuniting families/indentifying old photos /genealogy etc. I am sure that I am no different to most others in that I have a heap of old photos of relations that I can not identify but my unknown relations in Leicestershire may look at and recognise. It could be good for the paper as well. What do you think? Ken from Hunua

Tonight's is " Photos of Bradgate Park" 100 years apart. Drop him a line . . . Mr Leicester. Leicester Mercury, St George Street, LEICESTER. LE1 9FQ. It might just get him going. Photos coming from NZ ? Also from time to time they run a special supplement .... MIKE.

Thanks Mike I will contact him and make a few suggestions of possible format and potential sponsors. It could generate some good human interest stories for the paper. Such as my Timson grandparents who started selling newspapers from their house when the Merc. was looking to increase circulation c 1915. They finished up with two corner shopsby mid 20's. Must be plenty of us with tales to tell. Regards Ken

Hi all Just thought I'd drop in and see how things are in liquid Leicestershire! Took advantage of a break in the rain to walk round two local cemeteries/graveyards in Hugglescote. Although I'm not from Leics. I found, in the council one, graves of people I knew from the village and lots that I didn't (surprise!). Felt really adventurous climbing over a fence to get into the old graveyard of St James - quite a feat at my age too! I'm just back off holiday and can't be bothered to do anything except catch up on emails and browse the boards! Jan

I too have relatives from leicester - the Houghtons from Nailstone & Market Bosworth. Can anyone please help - I can not seem to find the birth of Florence Houghton. I have her death certificate & her marriage to Arthur Robinson in 1911 at Market Bosworth registry Office. I also have her on the birth certificate of Gladys Houghton - her 1st daughter only 3 months before the marriage, I have her on the marriage certifiate as being born around 1885 & on the census it states that she was born in Nailstone. But IO cn not find any record of her birth anywhere, her parents are George & Priscilla who were farm labourers. she was one of 10 children. I do not seem to be able to find any of the deaths either. Any help would be fantastic Elise

Thanks Mike, Apologies for not getting back to you sooner, but I have been away with family for the w/end. Yes I do have simular information off the 1881 census, but I was unable to find the birth of Florence. Is it possible that she did not like the name of Flora & used Florence instead? I find it a little strange as she is named Florence on her marriage & death certificates. Elise
