Hi Jan Could you please help me solve the problem of who my great aunt Sarah Ann Timson married? She was born in Leicester in 1866, her parents were John Timson and Hannah Yates. I have two main suspects firstly Charles Moore in 1882 September Quarter vol 7a page 441 or John March in 1885/6. She was living at home at time of 1881 census working as a Hosiery mender at 49 Flint Street. Her brothers Alfred(my grandfather), Arthur, and Walter her sister Emma. They could have been witnesses? Thank you Regards Ken Hastings

ken from Hunua Report 11 Jul 2004 21:45

Hi Mike Thanks for the info it could well be that Hannah had died at the time of 1891 census as my Great Aunt Emma told me that she had to look after her father and the rest of the family. One of the reasons that she never got married! The reason for clarity for Sarah Ann is that I thought that she was a Mrs Moore, however Jestrrwolf via the Leicestershire board sent me some info recently of a Sarah Ann Timson who married a John Stephen MARCH around 1885 with children Emma, Alfred and Elma. Thus my confussion - which one is my relation? Regards Ken Hastings, Hunua, NZ.

KEN I learnt a lot about the FHS Library today - couldn't find anything in the parish registers (but they haven't got everything). Found Sarah Ann in a 'Birth Briefs Index', married to a John March - the GRO records tie up and they are 7a 294, mar quarter 1887. In the index there is a partial tree from Ethel March, daughter of John and Sarah back to Ethel's great g/parents on both sides. As you'll see there is no definite date for Hannah's death. Also there is a contact name. Go to www.lrfhs.net/interests and look for Timson. the contact no. is WO 216. Email me if you want the image as I took a photocopy. Jan

Hi Mike, you are an angel, thank you very much........ The Sharps and Dewicks are definatly my lot, but those Grimsleys will be the death of me ! you see i have the birth certificate of my gg grandmother Ada Grimsley, 1873, father given as Joseph Garratt Grimsley, gardener. in 1881 census Ada mother,Mary, nee Hickling ,was a widow and i have never found Joseph anywhere else !! but the Joseph you have looked up was alive and well in 1881 and married a Phillys Lee. oh well, they do like to test us don't they ?? thanks for all your hard work, Jane x
