Have fond childhood memories of trips to Devon to visit Grandma. One of the highlights was always the trip to Brixham to have tea at the Cream Tea Shop next to the Shell Shop (anyone else been there?). When it came to scones, on went the jam, followed by lashings of clotted cream!! At the risk of starting a war, who else says "jam first", and who's for "cream first"??

Drooling at the thought....... Cut scone in half. Spread each half with jam. Pile as much cream as possible onto each jam spread half. Then bite. Ending up with a cream moustache!!!! Who's a gutty girl then? I am. So Daisy Daisy, I'll think of you when I next have one.

I'm with Norah - 2 halves last longer than 1 sandwiched scone. Also you HAVE to use ALL the jam and ALL the cream. Maz. XX

Two separate halves for me - cream first and then the jam. I was always told that the cream was instead of butter, so should be put on the scone first. My hubby does it the other way round - jam first, and then the cream!

Hi Daisy Daisy Speaking as a true Devonian, me anzums, it's gotta be jam first, then Devonshire clotted cream, and none of that Cornish stuff either!! Can't remember a cream tea shop next to the Shell Shop. Do you mean down on the Harbour, Daisy?

Definitely cream. It just like butter but with less fat. I see I am the first man to reply - perhaps it is a gender thing too!

Marion, Think it was overlooking the harbour - it was a LONG time ago!!!!! Not qualified to enter the Devonshire v. Cornish debate!! Nigel, Don't know about the gender thing - my Dad's a jam first kinda bloke!!

Daisy, Not sure I know where you mean. I do know Brixham very well, however! Nigel, How can you say clotted cream is just like butter?!!!! I don't think you can have tasted the real McCoy!!!

well, the crusty but is a bit like butter. I think if you up the fat content it ends up as butter. But it is much nicer than butter As for the real McCoy, only Rodda's or Jalberts will do

Big panic in our house on Christmas Eve as shop where we usually buy Roddas Clotted Cream,sold out but fortunateley Waitrose in Chandlers Ford now stock it,so daughter bought the last three tubs,thought I was gonna have to send Hubby all the way to Cornwall. Kathleen

I must same i'm the same as nore, cut in two halves, jame then cream. But i do put butter on,then jam, then cream. If i put cream on first i can never spread the jam properly!

I cut it in half, on one half I put the jam (must be strawberry), and on the other lashings of clotted cream. Then gently, so very gently, I put both halves together (jam side on top) and then I stuff it in my mouth so quickly the cream doesnt have time to escape!!!! I do tend to do this when alone I might add - when with company I delicately cut the scone into halves and with a pastry fork daintily eat it in small mouthfuls - not half as satisfying though! Jacqui
