Sounds as if I'm not the only 'gutty' one on here!!! Dierdre - Love that 'Give me your answer do' Kathleen - sounds as if you are not too far from me. Anyone want to come for tea? I'll whip up some scones, you all bring your own favourite cream though. |

Well so far I make it about 15 for jam (if you count my Dad!!) and 5 for cream (6 if you count Jacqui's cream on the bottom jobbie!!) - so it looks like jam is winning....at the moment!! Kathleen, As it happens I know a nice little tea shop in Lyndhurst which is not far from where I stay - not sure if they do clotted cream, but they do cream teas, and the YUMMIEST cakes!!! |

I have seen people putting jam and cream on fruit scones! Yuk!!!! How can they do that?? It's gotta be a plain scone!! By the way, I've never heard of Roddas or Jalberts in Devon. Where are they? |

Sorry Daisy Daisy and Kathleen about April, much as I would have liked to feed you some gutty gobfuls, methinks I am booked to visit fair city of Nottingham to renovate No.2 sister's garden. Renovate is the right word I think, I only get to do it twice a year, the soil is like compost and the WEEDS!!! Eh, think I'll get her on making the scones to go with the inumerable cups of tea that I need. Yeah!!! |

In which case Norah, if you fancy a cuppa while you're in Nottingham, you'd better come here as, apart from a brief trip down South, I'm only 45 minutes away!!!! (Don't get much clotted cream up 'ere tho', we're more into Pork Pies and Stilton Cheese!!). |

Hi everyone, Just been making some scones,8oz DEVONSHIRE CREAM, 1lb JAR STRAWBERRY JAM.This recipe is for ONE PERSON, not enough to share.No only joking.As a true DEVONIAN,cant speak for the CORNISH,the DEVONSHIRE CORRECT WAY IS JAM first,CREAM ON TOP.This is the correct way,but it is purely a matter of preference.Lovely topic though. regards trish |

The scone is definiatley cut in half, Jam first (home made Strawberry preferably) And then as much cream as you can. the two best palces in Devon for these are at Dartmeet on Dartmoor, and the southern Cross guest house in which is in a village near budleigh salterton. I'm homeisck at the thought of this, you don't get proper cream up here in the north. Linda P |
