Lynda Report 16 Apr 2004 23:33

Hallo Peggy My names Lynda and I live in Brighton. Three little Tortoises went it into a Pub, they ordered 3 pints of lager and 3 packets of plain crisps. The barman said "sorry were all out of crisps, but there is a shop on the corner that sells them" The youngest was sent to get them and the other 2 sat and enjoyed their lager. After 2 hours had gone past, one tortoise said to the other "if he doesn't hurry up I'm going to drink his beer" Suddenly from the door of the pub came a little voice "If you do I won't go" Keep your spirits up. I a sending you a smile :) and lots of good thoughts. Love and good wishes Lynda XX

Hi Peggy, I have just returned from the Isle of Wight. My husband, Ken, and I spent three days there. Just a short break. But, so reviving. Last night we went for a lovely walk. We started off at an old church and kept on walking. The trees were very tall. Sunlight was glittering through the branches and the light was bouncing off the grazing rabbits below. The rabbits were not very close to us but they were aware of our presence. They took the occasional quick glimpse at us but decided we were not a threat and went back to their business. One rabbit spotted us, he was alone and far from the others. He was not sure about us and decided to play statues. We walked right past him and then back again. He did not move. Standing there on his back legs. My Mum (who shares your name - Peggy) and Dad have just returned from Derbyshire, were they spent Easter. They were fortunate enough to witness the births of lambs and a calf.. Mum said the cow was as black as ebony and the calf was a beautiful auburn. The little love was attempting to stand inside of five minutes. Isn't nature beautiful and amazing. Do hope you are having a good day. Take care Love Kathy

Hello Peggy ,my name is Brenda and I live in Manchester and yes it does rain a lot. Today I met my friend for lunch ,we sat down in the pub restaurant looked at the menu ,I got up to go to the bar to order lunch,Walking towards the bar I felt that my trousers,on my bottom and back of my legs were wet,Thats funny I thought,I did not think it was raining that heavy.thinking it was caused by the rain. Later my friend went for more drinks on coming back she said ,my pants are still wet from the rain, just then a waitress was passing and said,oh it's not the rain ,it's the chairs ,they were shampooed the other night and are not dry yet!!!!!!!! Well we did laugth eventually hope you do to, take care

This is my favourite joke [ and it's clean too] Two hungry goats are walking on a dry dusty track. they haven't found anything to eat for days. Then a metal can rolls along. The little goat butts the lid open and out flies some 16mm film - not very appetising, but they are still hungry. The big goat butts the little goat out of the way and gobbles up the film. the little goat asks "what's it like?" and the old goat says "it was good, but not as good as the book!"

Elisabeth Report 17 Apr 2004 07:08

Good morning Peggy. I am Elisabeth and live in Newark. I suppose if I could find a rowing boat I could paddle up the Trent to you and arrive more quickly than driving along the Old Fosse Way, with all it's traffic. It is a dry morning but the sun hasn't peeped out yet as its quite early. I hope it stays dry as I want to cut the lawn - must get dressed first though. The neighbours think I am mad without lawn mowing in my dressing gown. Love to you from the big GC family.

Elisabeth Report 17 Apr 2004 07:42

Peggy, I have just had a brainwave - I could dye my white terry-towelling dressing gown green. Then I could mow the lawn, without getting dressed, as no-one would be able to see me!

Sue

Sue Report 17 Apr 2004 08:53

Hello Peggy My name is Sue (sounds like a song title!) and I live in a village called Langley Vale which is right in the middle of Epsom Downs in Surrey. Our house is about 300 yards from the racecourse where the Derby is run. We can hear the horses galloping during the races when we are sitting in the garden. I have just come back from Asda, I left home at 6.30am because I hate it when it's crowded up there. The shelves were full and no queues at the checkout! I am going to see 3 of my grandchildren soon. I bought them a gingerbread man each in Asda. I know I should make them myself really, but they looked so lovely with Smarties for their eyes and smart waistcoats made of icing! Pink for the girls and blue for the boy! Enough of my ramblings, you take care Peggy and try to keep smiling (it makes people wonder what you've been up to!). Love from Sue at Langley Vale

Peggy, I thought you would like to know my sparkling clean white dressing gown is now patterned! I put some handcream on, picked up a cup of coffee, cup slipped, enough said. What a shame I only washed it yesterday on that lovely bright windy day. I guess its into the machine again!

Hi Peggy, My name is Terri, quite a young sounding name, but I have to own up I am a golden oldie really. well 63 anyway. I am Welsh originally from Cardiff, but now I live in Telford Shropshire. The street I live in is on a housing estate, where the neighbours are so kind, that when they wash their car they also wash my kitchen windows slopping their dirty soap suds everywhere. Wildlife abounds here. some of the animals have four legs but most have just two. Language is colourful, and text sex is rife. For those who love art there is a regular display put on at the local bus stop. Conscious of the clean air act residents reguarly smash the glass in the phone boxes. to let the pollution out. Should you wish to have your front gate or brick wall removed and return to open style planning. you will often wake up to find your very wish has been anticipated and carried out by the local yobs. Amidst this chaos lies our oasis our garden.! Here order reigns. We can enjoy looking at the ghost koi and watch the developing tadpoles in the pond. A favourite spot of mine is where we have placed a statue of ST Francis, at his feet are little figures of badges, foxes, and rabbits. We have a summer house and my husband Ray who is a Yorkshireman man loves to sit in here and listen to the cricket. If England is doing well , the door is wide open and tea and biscuits are brought out, if they are losing badly the door is shut, and I keep away til the gloom has lifted somewhat. Best wishes Terri xx Please know, that each message you hear,or will perhaps have read to you. The writer of that message has now placed you in a corner of their heart.

Hi Peggy I lost my Mum 2 years ago, she was partially sighted and I used to read to her a lot, this one made her smile. There was a flash of lightning and a little girl looked up and smiled. Her mother said "why are you smiling?" The child said "because God is taking my photo!" Thinking of you Julia

Peggy, The lawn is cut, though I wasn't wearing my dressing gown. I don't wish to give the wrong impression though - I did have some clothes on! Don't take any notice of Susie - I know where her Auntie lives, the same road as my Auntie. A little while ago we had a thread of quotations from autograph books which was wonderful. There were some lovely rhymes. I don't think I used this one at the time: God made little nigger boys, He made them in the night. He made them in a hurry, And forgot to paint them white. It would not be politically correct these days. I hope I won't offend anyone!!! I remember thinking this very funny when I was little. It was written by my mother's best friend in 1922. Hope you are having a good day and you are enjoying our messages, Love. Elisabeth xx

Father was in the RAF so born on RAF camp and lived for a few glorious years in Tangmere - got home from school oneday to find he had sold the house and mum was packing!!! Married for 34yrs and have two children aged 27yrs and 29yrs. When we lived in Sussex we lived in a semi, which was over looked by flats, the occupants were very noisy/nosey etc. We now live in a detached house with views l used to dream of. Massive fir trees at the bottom of the garden with all sorts of birds, including a Greater spotted woodpecker, who visits the bird table everyday, we also have Nut hatches,Long tailed tits plus all the usual tits (feathered variety of course), robins etc. We have a dog called Lady and one cat called Jimmy - when l call him l usually call him like a labourer calls his mate!!! J I M M Y - he is so layed back, when he first came to us he jumped up on the sofa, flopped down, relaxed and fell off - bless him!!! We had lunch in a little village called Treleck today, in a pub called The Lion,it has recently won an award for the best food, we're not usually the sort to go out for lunch, but there are so many lovely places around here we can't resist it. Must go as l have to sew some seeds, some of them should have been sewn a few weeks ago - l like all the cottage garden types and all in pinks, purple, blues, whites, lilacs etc - eg Delphinium,Scabious,Sweet Peas,Poppy and Gypsophila - already planted things like Bluebells and bought 9 Geraniums last week - l'm not normally much of a gardener, but being here you just have to!!! Keep your spirits up, we will be thinking of you and Norah reading all these messages to you!!!! Take care. Love Jude & Vic
