Just read about this on another site I go on. apparently the council is going to sell off the playground memorial to this disaster for housing. Is nothing sacred. There is an online petition to try and stop it. Diane |

I must go and read about this. It was a terrible disater. A young teacher who had recently left the college that I attended was amongst those killed together with so many children. I can't believe that the council would even think about selling the land. That's awful. |

Diane, Thank you for letting us know how to sign the petition. I was young when this disaster happened but it remains a vivid memory. Its a disgrace, I am appalled that the Housing Association would even suggest doing something like this. I have signed. Pat x |

Thanks for supporting this, I remember seeing a documentary about this not too long ago and it was terrible. I have forwarded it to my daughter who has a large address book too and asked her to send it to everybody. Could you imagine this happening anywhere else Diane |

I have also added my name to this petition. Not only should this tragedy be remembered for the lives that were lost but also for the dreadful mistakes that were made which enabled it to happen. We must never become complacent again about safety. The anniversary is on 21st October. Marion |

Done it and am sending it on. This is incredible. Would like to sign for my mum (she doesn't have an e-mail) but it won't let me use my addy twice. Does anyone know a way around this? Maz. XX |

I have signed. I was at college in Cardiff when it happened. I have never forgotten that time. Many of the guys went to help, a tragedy which touched so many families and could have been avoided. The people of Coventry understood, they lost so many and the bombed out catherdal, next to the one which rose from the ashes is a reminder of what happened, and forgiveness, but also that it should never happen again. The playground is there for us to never forget J.A |

Maz I signed for my mum as well the only way is if you have another address i.e. Yahoo, Hotmail or whatever i do have two emails as I have an old address from the time I did not have a computer of my own and used an internet cafe. It is easy to open either a yahoo or hotmail if you are really want to sign it again, and you never know when you might be glad to have another address. Good Luck Pat x |

I heard about this some time ago and tried a few times to register a comment and sign the petition but everytime I tried to send, the page was unavailable. If anyone does manage, please let me know (and the address again) and I will have another go. (Have just seen the address on another message and have signed. Realised that I had got through before so now on there twice! I can't read the other signatures though). We have relatives who lost friends in that disaster and we frequently go over to Aberfan when in Wales purely to see the memorials. It should never be forgotten and probably never will be and out of respect the park should be left. Surely in Wales of all places they cannot be short of a bit of land! Are cemetaries next on the list for development? Jacky |
