Rose Don't suppose this counts but our best friends are planning to retire to Weymouth and go there about 6 times a year. We go with them sometimes and once they live there I suppose we shall go more often. They want us to retire there too but hubby won't leave here. Chrissie x

I think I'm what they call a Dorset Stray..... my family lived there for centuries in Charlton Marshall but moved up to Cheshire in the late 1800's probably cos of the wicked land owners starving all the peasants out by not letting their livestock graze on the land or grow crops. Probably not much good to you though :-) Gaynor

Baz,why are you set on going to Chard? Why don't you come back to Dorchester, much more convenient for Poole as well.I think we talked about your ten years there on another thread. It is such a lovely town.It would be so handy for Poole too.Chard is still a long way from Poole. Rose

Gaynor once you find Dorset you never forget it.It is so much closer than the endless journey down to Devon and Cornwall. As I said on another thread everyone seems to go snorting past on their way through to the South West and never really discover us.The villages are beautiful-Come and find out-Rose

Hi Rosemary, Just found this thread, I'm in Dorset, but only lived here for 3 years. I live in Poole, work in Bournemouth. I had always assumed your island was IOW, don't know why, but I was obviously wrong! Suex

Do I count? My great-grandfather came from Beaminster but had moved to Yeovil by the time my grandfather was born. My great-great-grandparents are my brick wall though and I don't know how long the family lived in the village before that.
