Hi Rosemary My Mum has a mobile home between Mudeford and Highcliffe and we are down there every school holiday. We all love it there...everyone is so pleasant, and the scenery is wonderful. But shhh, don't tell too many people.

I am a Dorset native - born in an area of Bournemouth that was sometimes shown as Dorset & sometimes as Hampshire but now confirmed as Dorset. My mother was born in Kinson and my grand-mother in Christchurch (when it was definitely Hants) but her father & mother were natives of Purbeck & Edmonsham. Incidentally can anyone help with a query? My great-grandfather Thomas Vine was born at a place called Actonfield. I believe that this is the hamlet of Acton near Langton Matravers. Someone told me that the addition of 'field' to Acton on his birth certificate refers to his having been born in a caravan i.e he was a gypsy. I'm not convinced about this but can anyone shed any light? I love to return to live in Dorset but prices of property are too high so I can only have hoildays there. Vic Taylor

Loads of my Mum's side of the family came from Dorset (Wimborne, Winterbourne Zelston and Almer), and I lived in Bournemouth for 6 years. Lovely county, really miss it! Sheila x Twizz - do you know Upton Country Park?

Twizz. The Puddletown Forest is amazing isn't it.Everyyear I used to take my Mum to see the Rhodi on the Rhodi mile. I think my son and his wife did their courting in the forest-they were both at Kingston Mauward College. Yes we must meet up when Christmas and new year are over.It will give us all something to look forward to in the coming year. Felicity I'm sorry you won't be able to make it.Perhaps we will see you when you come over in2006 Ramblin'Rose

Rosemary, it's going to by a bit difficult for the time being, though it would be lovely. I live in Gold Bar, a little town 40 miles east of Seattle, WA, on the west coast of the USA, and have done for the last 4 years, We visit family every couple of years and I had said to my husband that I would like to visit Dorset next time - so maybe in 2006?

I wish I'd known Chrissie,I would have driven to Wimborne to meet you.We farmed at Critchel, north of Wimborne for some years. We had the biggest flock of sheep in Dorset probably. Our lambing used to take about six weeks solid day and night.I do miss it so much.It is in my blood,I told you I am from a long line of aggi workers. One of my DIL is a gold medalist with pig-breeding and we have one of our sons as a Head gardener on a Wilts estate he was with the Hoods at Loders for some years.Of course it is all degrees now in Horticulture and Animal Husbandry, but it is all the same when it comes down to basics. lOVELY TO HEAR ALL YOUR CONNECTIONS WITH THE COUNTY AND WELCOME EVERYONE.I know all of the places you have mentioned so well.Eype is one of the county's best kept secrets, such a lovely little cove.I have very strong connections with Beaminster as my ancestors had MEREHAY MANOR IN THE 1700 and my sister in law has a shop there now.It is a scrummy Patisserie in North Street. I know Wareham well and taught in Swanage for some years. Our sons work as volunteers to get the little railway up and running again. They used to come home engrimed with rust from all the scraping down that had to be done. We travel on the railway every year. The New Forest is beautiful at any time of year.I have relatives in NoMansLand and Lockerly and used to take our dogd sump bashing in the riverlets which ran narrow but deep through the forest. We must try and have a meet up in the new year,I just couldn't get it together last year and yes Di you can come too.Look forward to that-Must dash everyone-Rose

You will never believe this,I have just typed a really long reply and mentioned each one of you and I've lost it.Can someone tell me where they go.Does this happen to anyone else.I have no mouse, just a very, very sensitive touch pad and it drives me up the wall as I am always losing stuff jst be inadvertantly brushing a finger tip over the pad.It is a real pain.-sORRY rOSE

My hubby originates from a village close to Sherborne (and his parents are still there) and has now defected to my home county of Somerset! We have to visit Weymouth at least once a year, and for the last couple have had short breaks there with our littl'un...and yes, I also have to visit Brewers Quay!! Kim
