Hi Bev-from-down-the-road, Sorry about your day; please see your GP if you don't feel better soon. Nothing on here to worry about - we just have another imposter in our midst. Not very pleasant when you consider we are all supposed to be adults! Take care and try to have a relaxed weekend, Love Mandy xx |

Bev, Dont mean to be negative, but unless you can put this down to hormones, the bursting into tears for no reason sounds like stress to me - as advised above, best to go see your GP. Take care :O) Anne xx |

Anne it isn't as easy as that yes i think it is stress, but that will go down on my personal record, and i worry about letting my team down (i am the ward sister) i have to set an example and show leadership, otherwise what sort of sister am i??? |

A human one Bev. Sometimes, and for no reason, these things happen. Your record should speak for itself I would hope. I hope you feel happier soon. Daisy |

Barbara & Daisy thankyou for your support it is just that nursing is such a thankless task these days, we changed to 12 hour shifts just over a year ago and now i feel i have no home life i am just so tired all the time, and that is not good for my patients |

Bev, I understand what you mean about having 'stress' on your work record. But maybe you have an understanding GP who would call it 'exhaustion' rather than 'stress'? You really need to step back and think about your work/life balance, something to which you are fully entitled. You are going to do yourself no favours by pushing yourself more and more, because it will take you longer to recover. Better to have a couple of weeks off now than six months later on. Get plenty of rest - if you need to sleep all weekend, then do so and recharge your batteries. Also a nice walk to get some fresh air, and do some relaxing things, warm bath, etc, etc. You know where we are if you need us. Love Mandy xx |

Bev, you're a nurse - you know that a big cry will do you the world of good, it will be worse if you bottle it all up (particularly if you're not a weepy person). Hang on in there - loads of us have been through the same thing, not always with the same root cause, but the symptoms are the same! Email me anytime and I'll reply as soon as I can. Take care, Love Mandy xx |

Good for you Bev, you're doing the right thing. And of course, it does sometimes help to get it all off your chest and tell someone how you're really feeling. Make the most of your week off, have a lovely relaxing time. Mandy xx |

Bev You are not superwoman. She doesn't exist. Everyone feels stress at times. You are in a position of responsibility to your patients and your team and you take it seriously - but stop beating yourself up because you feel weepy. If you feel weepy, that's how you feel. It's not a good way to feel, but it is probably your body's way of saying you need to ease up. I hope you have a restful week and are able to see your GP to talk it over. Someone will always be here for you. Be gentle on yourself. nell |

Howard thankyou so much for that, you have no idea how much that means. with todays goverment and patients charter, the expectations of patients are so high, and so they should be when it comes to the nursing and medical care they recieve. but when they complain that you did not make them tea in the middle of the night because you were seeing to a sick patient, or that the food is not what they ordered, or they missed the doctors round cos they were outside having a fag. it does make you question what you are doing there. especially when the management demands answers to those complaints ( and yes they are true) |
