'Fag hook' sounds interesting - then I looked it up.
We (as a family) called them scythe hooks.

I take a scythe to be the long handled, two handed implement Father Time and the Reaper use.

I think they are sometimes called reap hooks but who am I to argue with your family? It probably depends where you come from.

That's the problem, Sharron.
You'd be amazed at how many different names there are for 'tag'
Also, I can't say 'folk' without keeping in the 'l' - a 'leftover' from living in Scotland, and having a broad Scottish accent (for survival) at the age of 5 - it sounds okay in a Scottish accent, but in English is just weird.
If I'm going to say the word, I have to imagine the word 'faux'. and put a 'k' on it
Neither my sister nor I can say the word 'tarpaulin' properly, either. :-(

Because I am nothing if not pedantic, I have looked it up and a rip/reap hook comes straight from the handle and a fag hook has a step to protect the hands and is used for trimming, which is all I have ever done with it.
