Thank you, Pat, for the confirmation. It has also been on the national news this evening :-)

Whatever the ins and outs of this case there have been several fatalities on this road in the last 6 years. Only now have the police considered lowering the speed limit.

Sorry Joy for not sticking to topic but how many others need to die on our roads before something is done
Both the Prince and the other occupants were lucky to have escaped alive.

not the police... local council, methinks...

Von

Von Report 20 Jan 2019 12:06

Bob - you are correct. My mistake but my point is that nothing is done about speeding
until there have been fatalities.
It has now taken a high profile case to change this on this road. Apparently it was due to be discussed on friday.

There are extremely dangerous stretches of provincial A roads all over the country eg A35 Dorset - Exeter, A1 Lincs, A354 Dorchester - Yeoivil, A44 and A465 Wales ( Heads of Valleys ) A64 York A31 Bere Regis - Guildford, A3 Portsmouth - London A130 Essex and plenty more. All of these roads have two things in common (a) long stretches of fairly straight road inviting drivers to put their foot down and ( b ) lots of hazards for the unwary driver such as the unexpected arrival of tractors, slow moving trucks, blind brows of hills and of course Range Rovers.

The accident record of these roads is getting steadily worse.

Given that significant road improvements are unlikely the best solution is to reduce the national speed limit for single carriageway roads to 50 mph and non motorway dual carriageways to 60 mph.

It takes two to have a collision and it is a rare thing that only one is guilty.
If the MPV had been driven correctly then there would have been tyre marks from heavy braking laid down on the road. There were none visible on the TV footage.

It is perfectly possible to get around in a quick and efficient manner without getting speeding tickets or having accidents. The key to this is road awaress and anticipation not something much seen in UK drivers. Over the last 30 years the number of accidents haas gone up while the deaths and injuries to drivers have gone down. This is entirely due to safer vehicles. When it comes to pedestrians and cyclists fatalities and serious injury have gone up sharply.

IMHO the driving test should also include a personality test. Some operators of HGV and public transport already do that.

Changing the subject sightley the driver of the Kia has spoken to the daily mirror in spite of police asking her not to I can smell a big fat cheque coming her way, think it very distestful also the press should now leave it alone

easily done, my local council have removed a short stretch of 50mph, that was between two lengths of 40....merely by removing the 50 signs!! my sat nav insists that the 50mph is still present

Her 5 minutes of fame!

Apparently she/they have complained that no one has apologised. The advice to anyone involved in a car crash is not to do so. That implies 'fault'.

Media reports have also said that the Royal Household have tried to contact them without success.

There probably wouldn't be the degree of media attention if a younger Royal family member was driving.

And she was the passenger not the driver

She said on the tv this morning the drivers husband has finally given her their insurance details by email after several requests
Looks like the driver isn't wanting to talk to her or the press

She seems to be hangling for personal contact from the royal family. Won't happen cause she has a big mouth

Also seems she has her hands open big time for a huge payout

I'm an "older" driver. Haven't driven for almost six years due a combination of immobilisation due to injury and the lack of a suitable car.

Wondering if I should return my drivers licence to DVLA Swansea.

If you feel you won't drive again then yes return your licence to the DVLA

Hubby did when he decided that was it and he said he felt free and calmed down as he had made the decision
