Evening all.

It's been beautiful here today so the garden beckoned!! Working though, not sitting in it, except at lunchtime when a friend called.

Hope the painting is going well LG! I was going to paint the front of the bungalow, but decided to leave it until August when I'm off on holiday again! Too tired this time round lol!!

I am shattered YG. I have painted the little ones room, it looks so pretty. The slave driver now has me steaming off the lounge wallpaper. Trouble is the room is huge I have been doing it all day and only halfway. Guess where I shall be tomorrow ??? LOL

Hi Maz. Here is the substance of the thread. I am posting it on our thread. It is on the Surname thread if you wish to send a PM to the person.

OLIVER DNA Project

I have been searching for the parents of my gg grandfather William Oliver, born in Scotland, for 21 years and am unable to find any concrete written evidence.

I now believe that the only way I will solve this puzzle is though DNA technology.

I am presently involved in an Oliver DNA project, using my brother’s DNA, to see if this technology can help find my ggg grandfather and beyond.

If you are a MALE with the surname OLIVER would you be willing to join the Oliver DNA Project? The more in it the more likely we are to find our distant ancestors and our connections. My brother’s DNA matches Olivers in Scotland, Ireland, America & Canada.

The following link will take you to the OLIVER DNA Project Web site -

http://www.familytreedna.com/public/oliverDNA/default.aspx?

where you will find information about the OLIVER DNA project and the use of DNA in genealogy research.

There is no fee for submitting your Y DNA results to this group. There is a cost to getting your DNA tested but it is getting a lot cheaper than it used to be. Your DNA is only tested for genealogy markers and not for health markers.

Hope you find this information useful to your own genealogy research. If you have any questions please contact me.

Thank you
Chaye Oliver

Good morning all about to try an experiment.

Need to type to a certain point and see if the screen jumps up and down. I am logged into the UK version of GR instead of the Oz one.

I know exactly how you feel about steaming wallpaper LG. We did our whole house about six years ago.
The most exciting bit is when you rip off one layer and find another layer underneath. And the bottom layer has been glued onto the wall. You will have very sore arms and shoulders for the next few days.

She's the renovation Queen
Paints the walls and uses steam
What a mess she leaves behind. Everytime!!

It is about 3 degrees here this morning. It will climb up to about 18 but it is now two jumper weather.

And I have just reached the point of my experiment which tell me my theory has failed. It still jumps up and down no matter what version I am using. Drats.

+++DetEcTive+++ Report 3 Jun 2010 23:09

Lol @ Aunty. That is quite a temperature differential. 2 jumpers? Surely one would suffice lol. We've been basking in temps about 23c in my part of the UK, and it will probably go down to about 11c over night.

Did think that LG had been overcome by paint fumes. You can come and have a go at our upstairs loo, which is *still* not done!

Glad you had a good day out Maz, even though hankie pankie was not involved.

How is the heating renovations going YG? Don't say its been put off. :(

I have fixed my bouncing computer. With a little help from some knowledgeable people on the General Board.

You go to Tools and then click on compatibility view.

And

then

you

can
type
all
the

way down here without the screen bouncing up and down.

Mazfromnorf

Mazfromnorf Report 4 Jun 2010 09:06

i cant find tools lol where are they when this site is on show lol

AuntySherlock

AuntySherlock Report 4 Jun 2010 12:36

Up the top. Under Genes Reunited - Family History Records. Then the address bar with the back arrow and then File Edit View Favorites Tools Help

If you have View click on that then go to Toolbars and make sure you have menu and status bar ticked.

I did not have the option when using IE6. It only comes up with IE8. You could try the help menu and put compatibility view into a search and see if it can be found that way.

Glad you've managed to get all the chores out of the way Maz, and make the most of the weather tomorrow. Aunty is a softy complaining about 18C, isn't she? lol MInd you, we all wilt when/if it gets to above 25.

Like you, I've been wondering what Aunty was on about, talking about **Tools**. Glad it's not just me who can't find them. As we have Firefox, that must be the reason...not that anything has been jumping up and down on the screen anyway!

You deserve the time to recharge your batteries. We've been busy, busy, busy for the last couple of days - the dreaded you know what, and today hired a carpet cleaner and OH's car annual service.

And it hasn't stopped - stupidly I'd suggested a BBQ for tomorrow, and it is growing like Tospy. Sigh.

AuntySherlock Report 4 Jun 2010 22:24

No Mozilla firefox is entirely different and you are on your own with that one. Although my first born does use it so he knows all about it if you get really stuck.

Odd shower of rain this morning about 16 for the day and cold and wet several days next week.

Shopping and footy today. I'm wrapping the brain up warmly just in case. Tomorrow I am going to the library to do some research then meeting OH in town for an old diggers get together luncheon. Ho hum. On with the tin hats and out with the tall tales and true of our younger days.

+++DetEcTive+++ Report 4 Jun 2010 23:30

Sounds an out of the ordinary weekend planned for you then. Hope you have a good time. Now don't go scaring every one again with another medical episode. Bet it was the anticipation of watching your team win!

You'll have to take a 2 pairs of needles with you to the get together, and if you get bored listening to all the repeated stories, start 'knitting socks for the troops' lol

Hi LG. Glad you are both not glued to the skirting board glass paint, *and* still in the land of the living!
