Lib - last question (honest!!) how would I trace them through parish records - would I have to go the church itself or are the records online? Christina

Liberty64 Report 30 Jul 2005 01:12

you can only get certs starting from the year 1837 and I think it starts July of that year, its parish records before that! Lib

Going by the marriage certificate - Geoffs info sounds to be correct as Margaret's residence was Boustead Hill. Cant be certain until I get copies of birth certs though!! Off topic - when ordering birth certs how far back do they go - e.g. can you get them for early 1800's Christina P.S thanks for all your help - you are all wonderful people

Well - just to confuse matters further - I have just checked on FREEBMD and there is a birth recorded in Carlisle for Margaret Turner in 1838 AND 1846!! I think I will need to order the birth certificates to see which one I amlooking for!! Things are never straight forward are they!! Christina

Thanks for all the info - its great. I am bit confused though - on Margaret's marriage certificate she is 21 yrs old (i.e. born in1846) On the 1871 census she is 33 years old ( i.e born in 1838 - which ties in with IGI). Would she have lied about her age on marriage certificate as she married a 22 yr old? Also could you tell me the website for IGI - it may help me find other rellies I am looking for Many thanks to you all Christina

But Geoff, That is not Margaret born 1846. I think her birth cert is a necessity.

Geoff

A death Deaths Jun 1844 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Turner Benjamin Carlisle 25 29 It would only say 'deceased' if the information was offered.

I havent got Maragret's birth certifcate - but I have got her marriage certificate, They were married at Carlisle Register Office. Fathers name on the marriage certificate is Joseph Turner - but it does not say deceased. So could this be the husband of Ann -widow? I would have thought it would state deceased on marriage certificate? Christina
