Hi Sue, and everyone

we're having warm wet weather here ....... what's sometimes called the "Pineapple Express". It comes straight across the Pacific from Hawaii :-)

Arthur ..................... the spelling of names was very flexible back when!

Most of our ancestors were illiterate.

Most of the enumerators were probably only barely literate

so spelling of names came down to ................

......... how the enumerator thought it should be spelled (maybe based on past experience). And out ancestors couldn't read so couldn't check the spelling .......... and, anyway, probably didn't know how to spell it themselves.

.......... how the enumerator heard the name ............... think of a thick Devon accent talking to a Yorkshireman, for example!

If all else seems to fit, then it probably is your family.

............... I've been clambering around the branches of OH's tree for the last few days, trying to put "fini" to the family in the early 1800s. Not easy!

I think I'm going to have to agree with myself that I have found everything that there is to find ............... even if it means that I do not know when A was born or when and where B and C got married!

Take care everyone

Hi Sue, and everyone

well, we had about 12 cm of snow from Friday evening to Monday evening :-(

Then yesterday and today (ie, Tuesday and Wednesday) have been gorgeous .............. foggy in the early mornings, but sunny during the day. The temperature is still only about 4C though, so there are patches of snow still lying around.

We received an offer on the cabin last week ............ at the asking price! Which meant that we had to accept the offer. The buyers had not even seen the place "live" when they made the offer, though they did go up there on Saturday, and used snow shoes to get around ................. there's about 3' of snow up there.

They said they were still interested ..... and were going to see about getting a mortgage.

The sale of the cabin then fell through on Monday......................... our realtor called both the potential buyers AND their realtor "naive" ..........

............... they had planned on putting down a 10% deposit, and then getting the rest from a government programme called CHMC

Unfortunately, for them, that programme is only for buying a principal residence, nor recreational property!

Their realtor should have checked that with them before putting in the offer ........ it's known as "pre-qualifying" to avoid wasting everyone's time :-)

Never mind, it was a good exercise for us to go through, as we have never actually sold any property before :-D

take care everyone

Hi Sue, and everyone

we got up to snow this morning .................. about 2 cm that fell between about 6 am and 8:30am

then it stopped ....................

and it is now raining

yesterday it was dry, but a bitterly cold wind.

March definitely came in like a lion!

We've had another offer on the cabin ............... this one wants us to carry the mortgage for 2 years. That's not unknown over here, and would be all set up legally by a lawyer, and the buyer would be just as carefully checked out. But it does need thinking about!

Apparently he really, really wants the property, can pay a good deposit, but can't get a "normal mortgage.

We have our main meal in the evening .............. and it is roast pork for us tonight

I wonder if we will have leeks tonight????

OH went into the garden yesterday afternoon, and dug leeks to have with last night's turkey sausages ................. our nod to St David's Day :-)

take care everyone

Hi everyone.......... :-D

I've been really busy helping a couple of friends with their trees and then some extra typing work on top of that. I suppose it keeps me out of mischief for a while.

Anne's story of her cat's poorly ear reminded me of when we had dogs and how we used to bathe and disinfect various cut paws etc. Glad the cat is okay now :-D

It's quite chilly here this morning but, as long as it doesn't s**w, I don't mind in the least..... ;-)

Just a brief visit and am off again now......have to fill the car with a load of stuff for the charity shop .... on behalf of a friend!

Take care and love to all..... Cx <3

Hi Everyone

The last few weeks have not been good ,first the computer started playing up so big head me thought she could fix it herself and for a while it went OK,then it just crashed and would do nothing .

I called in my Computer man last week and he took it away ,brought it back a week later and it is going great guns .

He had to rebuild it from scratch, corrupted registry anyway it is now working like new and I am using Google Chrome for Genes ,it is very fast and no Error messages.

I read about all the weather you are all having all over the World and wonder if we are going to get any rain anytime soon.
It has been a long hot Summer ,looking forward to Winter.

OH got Gastro two days ago and he had to be taken to Hos by Ambulance 7 in the morning ,he could not walk he had lost so much fluid with all the vomiting he has been doing overnight ,they put him on a drip and gave him meds to help and restore his electrolytes as his had all got so low he was very ill there for a while, still not well but slowly getting over it ,I am nurse for a while so a bit tired tonight not much sleep lately. :-|

Lots of love to all my friends <3

Suex :-D <3

Edit Can anyone tell me where is the spellcheck on Google Chrome

Sally

Thanks for thinking of me.

I too have enjoyed the sunshine and spent a whole day shredding tree branches - still a long way to go to clear everything.

The cats continue to terrorise the local rodent population - one a day at present.

Tabitha

Tabitha Report 12 Mar 2014 14:22

Hello all

Sally glad to see you are getting out & about & no-one was washed away in the wet weather - Robert hope the shell floats well. - Waves to Reece -

Brighton is hazy today - very misty this morning - so much so we lost the new block of flats being built at the end of the garden

Shadow has now decided that if it’s not windy & wet – he wants to be out terrorising the local Cat community at all times of the day & night. As long as he is back before we go to bed. Little devil has the most grizzly yowl & has found out how to make the OH do what he wants.

He stands at the door or window & grizzles until he lets him out (which isn’t very long as OH cant stand the noise) I am sure he Grins when he is let out – Sunday night we were watching “Call the Midwife” he was quite settled on my lap.

All of a sudden off to the door - Yowl yowl and so on – we ignored him - so he flew in the lounge door up on the arm of the chair OH was in, rubbed his head on his shoulder – really made up to him for attention – sneaked up on him & gave a very big Yowl in his ear. OH jumped about 2 foot in the air & got up & let him out (I tried hard not to laugh & got told off) - OH told Shadow not to come back till the show finished.

He waits for us to eat & then wants to go out - I am sure that cat is destined for the cattery very soon to give us a week’s peace.

We watched him on Sunday – he jumped on the window sill stuck his head out – hissed a few times & did a warning howl. Jumped down & walked over to the neighbours’ wall (our fence panel vanished at Christmas – waiting for a good time to replace it) Lifted himself up on back legs so he could just see over the wall - looked around – coast clear & jumped up on the wall. Had a good look
& vanished over the top. We went up to the bedroom to watch out the window. He crept around her walls & peaked around the corner – all clear & crept up the garden by the fence. Patrolled her border & back to our fence at the far end of the garden.

He should have looked up as the cat next door was sitting on the shed roof watching him & his brother was on the Summer house roof in the other garden
both watching Shadow. Their little heads followed him all around the garden It was the best comedy show we have watched in a long time.

Shadow jumped back in out garden & both cats just watched him - he patrolled around the top – looked around the shed & jumped over into the other neighbours garden (where the other two cats come from). Quick as a flash – both cats jumped into our garden & made a mad a dash across our path back to their wall & were waiting for him To get down the side of their garden – so they would meet him head on. They had just settled themselves down ready to pounce.

While they did that shadow doubled back & emerged by the side of our shed (at the back of the garden) – with a big grin on his face & walked down the side of the fence to the wall where the 2 cats were sitting. They were so busy looking into their garden – they didn’t see him behind them. He reached the steps just by the wall & let out a reallyBig hiss & yowl – both cats fell off the wall & rushed into the outhouse – not to be seen again for a few hours.

Shadow sat down in the sun & washed his paws & decided to come back home.

Looking at all the stories so far – i think i may end up writing a book

Any one read Cozy Cats cottage? Its really good.

Oh well back to work - Take care all

Ann

Love the adventures of Shadow.

Loving the return of the sun and the fact that it should last for a few days at least.

My two cats are causing a little concern. Both were off their food over the weekend - normally they eat it quite quickly and tell me when the next meal is due - they sit patiently whilst I weigh out the dry food.
Vikki - aka PODGE - has continued to be off her food. She has even lost weight. Still goes out with her sister, still climbs on top of the cupboards ands till appreciates sitting on my lap for 30 minutes. She doesn't seem to be in any discomfort, but it is strange for a cat that was always eating her food and stealing food from her sister's bowl. Nikki appears to be back to normal.

Think I will phone the vet before taking her - could avoid an expensive bill.

Many thanks for the kind thoughts and waves - I am sorry that I find it so hard to post - you have all probably guessed that my beloved older son died from cancer a few months ago. We laid his ashes in one of his favourite fishing spots in Hertfordshire a beautiful tranquil place on the river. There have been many lovely messages received with memories of strong and lasting friendships and fun when they were all in their 20's and all so sad at his early loss.

I will try to get back to researching but somehow I seem to have lost my interest in it now.

Dorset is lovely and it is especially good to be near only other son and his family. D-i-l and grand daughters are wonderful and I am slowly making some new friends.

Hoping all goes well for all of you - loved reading about the cats - remember ours behaving much the same way over 50 years ago! No pets now,

Love to you all.

Hello friends... :-D

What a mixture of messages to catch up on.....some happy, some funny and some sad.........

The cat stories are always amusing.......... :-)

Sue, you must be worn out but it's good to know that your OH is on the mend. It sounds as though he has been really poorly poor man. :-(

Reece.....what can anyone say. So very, very sorry to hear your news and it is understandable that your interest in research has waned somewhat. It is good that you are close to our other son and making new friends - hopefully the summer will lift your spirits a little. Do take care....... <3

I have been busy with this and that. Have had quite a lot of off-line typing work to catch up with and that has kept me occupied for a while. I look in on GR each morning and then again at lunch time when I send out my 'how to find your thread' messages. The boards are so much slower these days though.

I am in the middle of deciding on new flooring for my kitchen. i rather like the black vinyl but OH thinks it's too dark.....am trying to find a compromise....sigh.

Take care and love to all........Cx <3

Hi Everyone

Reece dear friend I am so sorry to hear of the passing of your Son,you have not had a good run the last few years ,my love and thoughts are with you and your family <3.

I feel we take our families for granted at times but I for one will not from here on ,seeing my OH so sick made me realise just how important he is to me.

I wonder how Robert is ,he has not been on for a long while ,I often think of Frank as well,he was good fun :-D

Sorry I do not do cats but I do have a very nice Budgie ,he does not give me too much work :-D

I am giving Ancestry a bit of a rest for this year ( don't like the new format why they have to change things is beyond me ) and am going to subscribe to FMP for a change,I would value your input here as I have never used FMP only the American one..
Do any of you think it is better than Ancestry?

I had better get some dinner on ,Catch you all later <3 :-D

Love to you all.

Old Report 14 Mar 2014 11:03

Excuse my ignorance but what is FMP. I googled it but got no sensible answer.

I actually like the new format on Ancestry. I have advanced in leaps and bounds using it. Still have stubborn brick walls tho' :-(

Tabitha Report 14 Mar 2014 13:10

Reece good to see you back - I appreciated the PM but didn't think it was my place to share the sad news on this thread . - I was waiting for you to find the right time

I hope you have a lovely garden or space to sit & contemplate and think of all the wonderful times you shared as a family
I am sure it will bring a lot of comfort – with the weather getting better too.

Arthur I hope your cat gets better soon, they can be such a worry – i am sure she is just moulting.

Shadow has the odd day when he goes off his food – then its back as though he hasn’t been fed for days.

FMP - Find My past - i do use on occasions but don’t find it has as much for me as Ancestry

It will be interesting to see what you think Sylvia

I do tend to use family search a bit too

Hope everyone is enjoying the good weather - will pop back later
