Greetings from the very sunny and very cold south east coast of the UK - no white stuff yet - but we have been promised some for late afternoon or early evening today. According tot he met office we are going to have around 4 inches worth :-P :-P :-P

If it stays this cold then it will all turn to ice - I will then be able to slide down all the hills (on my rear of course) to work - I will have to sleep at work as will not be able to climb the steep hills back home due to the slippery surface - so much fun :-P :-P :-P I think not

Still no overtime :-( which is why I am on here at this time of day - the bills still mount up :-( not a lot of fun - feeling very gloomy :-( :-( :-(
Hence the lack of visits as I do not want to spead this gloom on here :-( :-( :-(

Nice to see everyone back - Josie hope things are looking up for you

Thinking of Evelyn & Reece - hope you are both keeping well <3 <3 <3 <3

Hope everyone is well and looking forward to Spring

Take care all :-) <3 :-) <3 :-) <3

Brrrrrrrrrrrrrr..............it's perishing cold in the North West today! We have got freezing rain more than snow and it's horrible. yuk and double yuk. If anyone wants this weather - they can have it with pleasure.

When I see about the poor people who have frozen to death in the streets in Poland, it makes me even more grateful for my little house.

I'm definitely looking forward to Spring Anne, it's my favourite season - wish it could be Spring all year, but that would really throw nature out of rhythm.

I love the Kindle I bought for my OH!!! I take it to bed every night and am, at present, reading a Dick Francis novel which is new to me. As Josie said, very light to hold so easy on the old joints :-D

The comments about the slowness of this site go on and on......one day it's fine and the next it's rubbish. I wonder if they will ever get it sorted. I suppose it may be the sheer number of members they are supposed to have which causes some of the problems.

My youngest child is 39 tomorrow.........sigh.......where have the years gone? His children think he is really old!!! :-D :-D

Hoping Evelyn, Reece and Arthur are all bearing up..........keep warm folks. Lots of love. Cx. <3

Hi all
xxx

nice and sunny today, blue skies, and a temperature around 7C or so ............... just like yesterday, and forecast for the next 3 or 4 days also!

Weather forecasters and meteorologists throughout the US and Canada were apologising earlier this week for their WRONG long term forecasting

....... they had forecast a colder than average winter with lots of snow, because of the La Nina effect

instead most areas have generally seen warmer temperatures, much less snow, and low precipitation.

Mind you, one of our local guys did point out that there was still at least 1 more month of official winter to go!

Old Report 5 Feb 2012 08:56

Greetings from north Kent where the snowfall overnight was approx. 6 inches.

Knocked out my SKY TV so will not be able to see England humbled in Dubai - perhaps that is a bonus.

Went to see some historic gardens yesterday - E A Bowles old estate at Myddleton House. It was the setting for a snowdrop sale and a social gathering of like minded friends. The temperature never rose above zero.

today I planned to go to 2 gardens with friends to see more snowdrops - impossible!

I live at the bottom of 2 hills and as it is a minor road there is no griiting. Last year I could not get out for 3 days and even then it was fairly treacherous because of underlying ice. One poor lady could not stop and landed on top of the council grit bin. I had someone else parked (with my permission) on my drive for 3 days.

The forecasters have got it spot on and I hope the follow up is also correct as they say the rain from the West will clear the snow - sometime.

At least I am warm and have my little cat to keep me company. She is 17+ and very happy to stay in the warm.

Tabitha Report 5 Feb 2012 12:07

Greetings from the South east cost (Brighton) - S*** started falling at 8:30 last night - they forcast we would get it around 5-6pm - light sprinkling before we went to bed.

Around 2 inches of the white stuff this morning - ICE underneath - as the cats have discovered. Not looking forward to getting to work tomorrow - two large steep hills to get down -

Hope the rain arrives soon Arthur. Which part of north kent are you - A couple of years ago we drove up Bluebell hill & Detling hill in the S*** It was so pretty when we drove up there - got to Caple and while we were there it s***ed & s****ed and it was over 18 inches when we left. Had to dig the car out of the car park & had a dodgy ride back home down the hill. It was pretty though.

Its nice to see so many visitors here

Hope everyone is warm & cozy in their little nests - or shell in the case of Robert.

Wonderful age for a cat Arthur - the oldest I have had was 14. - should have seen next doors cat trying to cross our garden in the s*** - she is only a very small cat - she took very long strides

My poor old car blew a head gasket last weekend - so we had to decide if it was worth the money to get her sorted. The garage gave her the once over and said it woudl be worth repairing her- as she is still in good condition - this will give her another 100,000 miles - the car is 15 years old this year and its the first time the gasket has been changed and the water pump. They gave us a 15% discount and it was still a vast amount of cash

As long as we can keep the rust at bay we can keep the car going. It cost an awful lot of money (which we don't have) FIL said he may be able to help us with a bit of cash. Good job we got her back on Friday - she is wonderful in the s*** - not like the driving school car - that hates the s*** - its too light on the front aparently.

Well must away as need to sort out the dumplings - decided to do a beef stew today

Will pop in later idf I get the chance

Take care all <3 <3 <3 ;-) ;-) ;-) ;-) ;-) <3 <3 <3

I am near Brands Hatch.

Kent Council said they had taken extra steps this year to prevent the chaos of last year, including hiring farmers with their tractors.

It is true - saw a tractor with snow plough attached driving down the middle of the road. Several cars have ventured out, but I am staying in the warm.

Kids enjoying snowball fights, but they have also spread some grit on the road.

Rain would be nice, providing we do not then get sub-zero temps to leave the roads like a skating rink.

Hi Everyone

We have been having some really nice weather for a change but it is starting to warm up again.
My sister showed me the snow outside her house re our Skype connection.
I was in the uk this time last year but it did not snow for me sadly.

Sorry to hear you are all cold I hope you don't get the dreaded colds ,my elderly uncle is full of it at the moment he is in Gloucester and it has been snowing there as well.

Looking for a rental for the Granddaughter at the moment ,the house she is in is not very nice to bring a new baby home to so we have to find something fairly quick.

Anne sorry to hear about your car at least it is repairable,we tend to keep our cars a long time as well.
I must admit we do need a new one now but we are going to wait until the OH retires,we have a Nissan Patrol it is too big for us but the OH is using it for work until it dies so he says .
Would like to always have a 4x4 but a smaller one ,always handy for driving on the beach and a spot of fishing that I enjoy from time to time.

Time to do the Dinner dishes and a glass of wine I think......Red for tonight.

Love to everyone

Hello all......... :-D :-D

Arthur, does the name Kitts Cotty mean anything to you? Appartently I had a great aunt who lived at Bluebell Hill near Brand's Hatch. She died just before I was born but I have traced her family etc.

The weekend was horrible....horrible....horrble. We still have some piled up ice around the area - it hasn't melted because it is still so cold. Do hope we have seen the last of it for....ever!

Sue, I saw triplets whilst I was at my volunteer desk yesterday. Absolutely gorgeous.....2 boys 1 girl. They were tiny because they were premature.
Awwwwwwwwwwwwww/

Anne. we got the reminder for our Road Tax today..........grrrrrrrrrrr.

Tuesdays and Wednesdays are really busy for me usually so I will be glad to have an early night and a normal day tomorrow!

Off I go then......night all...... <3 <3

Hi all

rain rain rain today (Feb 8)

........... and today was the day OH had a colonoscopy at the local hospital ............. no driving afterwards, and had to be accompanied home by a responsible person ........................

me :-D

I don't drive, never have driven

so we had to go down on the bus (about a 20 minute ride), and then got a taxi home.

Anyway, the news is good .......... this was the 6 year exam after he had a colon re-section. One small polyp removed, go back to see the doc in 1 year, and have a colonoscopy in 2 years.

The polyp will be examined of course to make sure it isn't cancerous. But it doesn't seem that the doc was too concerned.

More rain tomorrow ........ so we are in a warm wet period

OH saw the first snowdrop in flower in our garden this morning

Hi Everyone

Sylvia glad to hear your OH is OK,terrible disease is Bowl Cancer my Father in Law died from it ...he got so thin you could hardly see him and he was such a nice man.
My OH has a colostomy every two years because his Dad died from it and they always find a few Polyps but they are always Ok thank the Lord.

The funny thing I think anyway is going to pick him up ,in our Hospital they tend to do all the men on certain Days so the recovery room is full of men with WIND on hospital trolleys.

Hot and humid today.....Yuk!.

Pop in later tonight.

ed we have had more snow this evening

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 10 Feb 2012 05:45

Hi all

very wet again today

Sally .... you seem to be having it pretty bad in your area.

Susan ...................

OH had 18" of his colon removed in 2005 ....... they had found one cancerous polyp and the cancer had got into the colon wall.

Thankfully, it hadn't got any further, so he didn't need any further treatment.

But they had been watching him for several years by the stool tests because his father died of colon cancer, and it is also probable that his paternal grandmother had also died of it ..... the death certificate doesn't say it, but does have that she died of something that could well be a result of having colon cancer.

That means 3 generations have had it PLUS it has affected both sexes.

As a result of OH's diagnosis, his sister is supposed to be checked regularly (when she remembers :-) ), and our daughter and her (ie, OH's sister) 3 children have all been told they have to start being checked at age 40.

They have mixed sessions at our hospital ...... so the ward had both men and women trying to get rid of the wind! :-) :-) :-)

Take care everyone

Sorry but Kitts Cotty means nothing to me.

Fresh scattering of snow overnight.

Hope roads are not icy as I need to drive to Bromley for annual eye test.

Worked on the front garden project with my builder yesterday- now have a 'fence' round the new area - posts with rope suspended between them - very pleased. Now need to fit gravel boards between the posts to stop the pea shingle from spreading everywhere.

Today working in the carport under cover - still cold as it is open at the end.

Tabitha Report 10 Feb 2012 13:47

We had more snow last night - our road still had Ice on the pavements left from Sunday - now we have snow on the top of Ice - & that snow was rather crisp as the temp dropped early morning - it can be lethal on the pavements - nearly slid down a driveway this morning - straight into the road.

OH said just walk on it as normal - ok for him not me I slither about all over the place - OH said he may come & collect me tonight depends if anything starts to melt today.

Sylvia - good news about your OH

Kit's Coty House - Neolithic chambered tomb - Kent

A well-known site in the south-east of England, Kit's Coty House is a neolithic chambered tomb. Kit's Coty House stands in a field to the west (you can't see it from the road) of the A 229 from Maidstone to Rochester. A footpath, app. 0.25 miles (0.5 km) long, leads towards it. The tallest stone of which is 8 feet (2.4 metres) high and the capstone 4 by 2.7 metres, which was once covered by an earthen mound of 180 feet (55 metres) long, as aerial pfotographs have shown. Side ditches were once up to 3.8 metres deep. This site was already famous in the seventeeth century. The diarist Samuel Pepys described it as:

"Three great stones standing upright and a great round one lying on them, of great bigness, although not so big as those on Salisbury Plain. But certainly it is a thing of great antiquity, and I am mightily glad to see it."
Unfortunately not all people felt this way. A large stone shown on a sketch by Stukely in 1722 and known as 'the General's Tomb', was blown up in 1867. The large mound, also visible on that sketch, has also all but vanished
Some call it simply Kit's Coty, because 'coty' means the same as 'house'. The story explaining the name tells us that Kit is Catigern, who, together with his brother Vortimer fought Hengist and his brother Horsa here around 455, which is recorded both in the Historia Brittonum as well as in the Anglo-Saxon Chronicle

Any use Cynthia?

We drive past brands hatch once a month on the way to the In Laws,

off to have a potter around

Take care all <3 <3 <3 <3 ;-) ;-) ;-) ;-)

Hi Everyone

Finally got the Grand Daughter and her Partner out of the rental this weekend .
I now have them with me while we wait for the application to be accepted for her new rental.,we should now if they have it by the end of the week.

The OH's garage is full of there furnisher you can't move in it by the way the garage is 6mts x 6mts so you can imagine all the stuff they have collected.

We have had your snow on our TV over the last three days ,it makes me feel cool to look at it .
We are warming up again but not as hot as it has been ,I am good around 30c any more than that and I start to suffer and it gets worse as I get older,we have kept a close watch on OH's mother I don't know why she can cope better than me ....I hope I am as good as her at 92yrs.

I am off for a nice cool shower,be back later for a look around the boards....after I have done the dishes of course :-D

Love to everyone

Thanks for that Anne.........I had never thought of googling it. I just thought it was the name of a house where my aunt lived as my mother often mentioned it :-S :-S

Is Bluebell Wood in that vicinity then???

Your garden sounds as though it is coming on a treat Arthur. You could post a picture of it as your avatar :-D :-D

We had some quite dense fog yesterday - not pleasant to drive in at all but it's not quite as cold as it was I don't think.

I like the weather to be just sort of medium.....not too hot...not too cold :-D

Looks like I will be having a quiet week - it's half term and I thought I was going to have the grandchildren for 2 days. However, son has just phoned to say maybe only 1 day.....will I cope :-D :-D

It would be lovely to hear from Evelyn again. Work is still going on behind the scenes re her mother but she remains as elusive as ever.

Sending love to all and hope that everyone is keeping well - especially Robert in his little shell.
