Hi Everyone

I have been told that everything went well on Friday for my Cousins funeral.

Funny enough it was held at the same crematorium that my Aunt 's funeral was at in a place called Westerleigh just outside of Yate Gloucestershire.

I did get the flowers there on time and they were beautiful my sister tells me.
I am glad it is all over with to be honest,as I feel totally useless over here and very much wanted to be there with all my other relies but I just could not afford to go back so soon after my Aunts Funeral.

Nice and sunny today and my garden is looking a treat.
Have a lovely day everyone .

Snow - in Canada - Summer in OZ & barmy weather here in the south of England.

According to our local paper our council has decided to issue an early drought warning. We have had so little rain that our reservoirs are only a 3rd full. If we don't get above average in the next two months then they will issue a drought warning & hose pipe ban from March.

Who knows whats going to happen in the next few months.

Had a break today just did a bit of family tree paper sifting - we are off to Canterbury tomorrow as they are closing in Januarry for 7 months - won't know what to do with ourselves - lot less ware & tear on the car & save a lot of petrol as well.

Glad it all went well Sue - at least you were with them in Spirit.

Waves & hugs to all the missing ones - as well as all those popping in still. Robert I knew you couldn't keep away.

Take care all <3 <3 <3 <3 <3

Hi Everyone

It has been hot here today 32c for us and I think Perth got 35c.

I have the OH home at the moment ....he has come in handy today as I wanted another Half wine barrel to plant another tree for the pool area,I would dearly love a cocos Palm but I can't seem to get one so may have to settle for some other type of Palm.

I really don't know what I am going to do when we downsize as I have so many plants in Pots and Barrels ,I can't take them all with us.....OH well I will handle that when the time comes.

Has anyone got any news on Evelyn and Ron,I may go and check her thread for some news ,I do hope Ron is well and Evelyn is coping oK.

My cousin's ashes are being put in his fathers Grave that is next to my Grandparents Grave so he will be in good company.

I have not been on the internet for a few days ,just so busy and I have the Chrissy shopping to do yet,I have not bought a thing yet ...it is all to soon for me this year .

Sylvia I would love a bit of snow right now.

Catch you all tomorrow .
Love to everyone .

Snow - snow - who mentioned snow again

Cynthia - we need to stop this word creeping back in on the thread again

Its making me feel cold just thinking about it.

I haven't heard from anyone - no idea how Evelyn is - but sent waves & hugs to her & Reece.

Sue its nice they can place the ashes in the same grave as family - always makes you feel better - just knowing about it.

All very quiet here - nothing to report - had a good few days off - finished off another parish in East Kent yesterday. Won't know what to do with ourselves when it shuts for 7 months or more.

The new Kent records office isn't open till next year.

Oh well back to the worklists

Take care all <3 <3 <3 <3 <3

Cynthia Report 23 Nov 2011 08:06

I hope you had them with cream Robert! So, we have snow in Canada, a heatwave in Oz and a complete mixture in the UK! Sounds about right!

Sally, why not tell us what the medal says and we can have a look for you?

Where's Arthur got to by the way?

My bedroom has now been decorated and I am very pleased with it. Just a few finishing touches and, maybe, a slight altercation between OH and myself re what is going on the walls, and the job is done!

On a sadder note.....I had a message from Evelyn yesterday and things are not too good at all. She is so grateful for all the loving throughts directed towards both her and Ron.

Take care all. Cx.

All quiet on the western front here - team meeting today and another meeting as well. No time to do the work.

At least its a lovely day today - sunny & clear - a bit of a nip in the air (or can't we say that theses days)

Well off for a mooch around again

Evelyn my love and thoughts are with you both <3 <3 <3

Not too good this neck of the woods ,a very large bush fire has burnt out 19 homes in Margaet River ,I suspect Sylvia has been there so she would know the area.
It was very hot yesterday with strong winds so the fire just got out of hand.... it is still burning now with more homes under threat in Preverly beach ...it is in the same area as Margaret River,we can see the smoke from where I live in Busselton.
There is no threat to us but Margaret River Town itself has just been put on alert

You can tell summer is approching in a hurry.

I thought about Ironing todaqy but with 37c forcast will give it a miss until tomorrow 29 c for that day.

Cynthia we have just finished decorating our Bedroom aleays makes you feel good does'nt sleeping in a freshly paited room.

I am off to get some lunch .
Love to you all.

Old Report 24 Nov 2011 10:26

Have been rather busy - or more correctly the builders have been rather busy.

I am having the entrance to my drives - sounds grand but it is U-shaped and has two ends - extended and tarmac laid in place of grass and concrete strips. Tarmac just arrived and the roller has a flat battery - fortunately a neighbour has jump leads.

In addition a strip of land in front of my garden, between the drives is being beautified. Ownership is not clear onn my deeds, but since the Council have done nothing in the eight years I have lived here, I am effectively making it part of the garden.

A digger removed 18 tonnes of soil and grass, plus nettles etc, and a grab truck took it away. The area now has a mambrane that will shortly be covered with 20 tonnes of pea shingle. At the appropriate time I will plant some shrubs. Neighbour delighted at removal of eyesore.

Not too worried about the ownership issue - it is complicated as one side lies on an unadopted road spur, where my neighbour's deeds clearly show he owns land to the middle of the spur. On another side bordering the road situation was similar before the Council adopted the road.
I will clarify at a later date when site is established and looking good, then get my deeds brought up to date.

On the Family History front I decided to get some professional help - Naomi Davies. My great grandfather Arthur was a Freeman of the City of London, an inventor and wealthy. I would like to know more about him, and his ancestors who were Barge Builders in Sudbury, Suffolk.

Naomi has discovered that Arthur had had 2 patents approved - she has written to the British Library to see if there were others. There is a Guild of Scientific Instrument Makers, but this was formed after his death, and Naomi has sought advice from the head of the Royal Observatory as to where she should look for further info.

The frustrating part is she has been unable to shed light on the Nicholls Barge Building clan. I know of 3 generations involving at least 8 people over a century, yet there is nothing in Directories or at the Suffolk Registry Office.

I am, at her suggestion, going to write an article for the Suffolk Family History Society to see if I can jog some memories.

Back to weeding the garden. Weather still fine and forecast is good for Friday and Saturday. Would like to see the nights cooler as low temperatures will help my seeds to germinate.

Been a bit busy of late............Arthur, you have had your work cut out but it sounds as though it will be worth it.

Sally, try this link - there are oodles of medallions and badges to do with the railways and I am sure one similar to yours must be in there somewhere!

Hi all

the gale on Thursday blew all the clouds and rain east to eastern BC and Alberta ............ and we had a lovely sunny, but cool, day today

Sue ........... we saw on our tv news this evening that there had been a huge fire in Margaret River, caused by a prescribed burn that got out of control. Is that the same as the one you mentioned above?

Arthur ..... sounds as though you have a very interesting ancestor there!

Hi Everyone

Sylvia it is the same one only now their have been 39 homes burnt out and destroyed,It really is heartbreaking to watch the news of late as they interview people who have lost everything and to top it off it was caused by a prescribed burn off.

Now I agree we need to burn off at times but this fire was started by an incompetent fire officer who was responsible for three truck drivers being allowed by him to drive through a blockade too soon about three years ago al three died a terrble death .

He lost his government job only to be put back into it a bit down the line when everything died down over that incident.

There is a lot of people who have lost all there belongings right on Christmas ,it is so bad I find it hard to watch the news at present as we have been to these areas a lot fishing and diving over the years and we know a lot of people from the area.

We could do with a storm now to stop all the fires that are still burning but all we have at the moment is strong winds and fire loves that .

Going to start my Christmas shopping on Monday ,I am so far behind everyone else.

I hope you are all having a nice weekend ,I only hope ours gets better through the week.

Love to Evelyn and Ron .

All the icons are gone !! what a shame.

Another glorious day spent in the garden :-)

Building work had to stop early on Friday as the builder put his back out raking the pea shingle. Hopefully will be completed Monday.

My thoughts are with you Evelyn.

Researching:
Barge Building in Sudbury, Suffolk, England from 1750 onwards, and in Southwark from 1830 onwards.
