June, don't buy credits on Genes - it's the most expensive way to search by far.

Findmypast is fine if you only want to buy a few credits to view the "Soldiers who died in the Great War " database, but the best value at present is Ancestry, which gives you all the censuses (FMP doesn't) and all BMDs.

You can get a free 14-day subscription; you have to give your credit card details, but if you cancel before the 14 days are up they don't take any money from your card. It costs about £60-70 for a year's subscription to the UK databases.

For WW1 advice, the Great War forum is very good:

For £40 you could have a quarter's subscription to Ancestry to search the same records that you buy credits for on here.

Gala

I obtained the Fick information from the following site:

www.lawsons.ca

The following is an extract from that site:

RAMSBOTTOM, Henry 28 Dec 1892 Dou RAMSBOTTOM, Henry LEEK, Maria
RAMSBOTTOM, Sarah 14 Aug 1895 Pee RAMSBOTTOM, Henry FICK, Maria

The reason for buying credits on Findmypast would be to obtain access to Soldiers Died in the Great War.

Hi . I have both of their birth certs, there must be an error in the name "Fick & Leek " .
I cannae find the mother's birth place !!!!!
On her marriage cert only showed that she was already living with her husband Henry before she married.
