Having trawled the 1939 Register, it seems that Byron Street addresses are on a page which is all redacted apart from a couple of names.

There are records for Wordsworth Street, which runs parallel to Byron Street,
then the blacked-out page which is presumably Byron Street,
and then Goldsmith Street, which is on the other side of Byron Street, parallel to it.

Aha! I should have thought of checking for children.

On Ancestry, when I look at the 1939 record for young William above, Doris's record is still redacted.

She only shows up on the page of corrections, as posted earlier.

Also, I find now - I had searched 1939 for "Byron Street", without any person's name, and didn't get any results in Barrow.
If I had searched just for "Byron", the whole streetful would have shown up.
Less is more!

The info I posted was from FMP, and appears to be the original.

FMP is often more up-to-date/correct than Ancestry when it comes to open records in 1939.

Young William's is open on Ancestry, but Doris's isn't, except on the corrections page.

I suspect it's an error by FMP.............there was only one son of the Oldfield/McLennan marriage and OP says she got info 'from the son'.

We need feedback..................................
