Very true, Argyllgran, it’s certainly something to consider. :-)

If you really want to know who Alice was, perhaps the death cert would tell you previous surnames ?

Really appreciate your efforts on this. I’ve been going back over this, off & on, over years & have never have got as far as you have. Thank you.

Albert and ALICIA :

Albert Breed
in the London, England, Electoral Registers, 1832-1965
Name: Albert Breed
Year: 1939
County or Borough: Hackney
Ward or Division/Constituency: Hackney Central
Street address: 31 Dalston Lane

Also Albert and ALICIA in various years at the same address, right up until Albert's death in 1956.

Then Alicia's still listed at the same address until 1962 ER, per Ancestry.

But I expect this is her death:

Deaths Sep 1961 (>99%)
BREED Alicia A M 67 Hackney 5c 560

So possibly this is her birth ??

Births Dec 1891
Richards Alice Annie M Birmingham 6d 193

EDIT:

BUT if her age at death is correct, then she was born 1894.

(Anyway, I think Alice Richards died unmarried in Birmingham in 1958)

So, assuming 12 Nov is correct, then there are these other options:

Births Dec 1894

Chamberlain Alice Annie M Shoreditch 1c 73
Moore Alice Ada M Reading 2c 337
Scott Alice Adelaide M M Chester le S. 10a 536
Warren Alice Amy M Highworth 5a 2

BUT EDIT again:

1.
Not Alice Warren - she married Francis Brown in 1925, and was still Brown at her death in 1972.
2.
Not Alice Scott - she never married, and died in Tunbridge Wells in 1990.
3.
Not Alice Chamberlain - her mms was Danner, and she died in infancy (parents Edward Chamberlain & Alice Danner)
4.
Not Alice Moore - she married Horace Rapson in Reading in 1917, and died in Reading in 1986.

Back to the drawing board!

"Inferred spouse" is what it says for all married couples, Malyon, because the 1939 doesn't specify relationship, so they can't say for sure if two people listed as married are actually married to each other or not.

malyon

malyon Report 11 Sep 2018 23:55

on the 1939 reg it says Inferred Spouse does that mean they are not married

Annie Ethel - born Walthamstow per 1911 census:

BROWN, ANNIE ETHEL mms OAKES
GRO Reference: 1882 D Quarter in WEST HAM Volume 04A Page 100

I can't see Dora or Winifred after the mention in Albert's army record.

Re Alice Breed -
well, she's not Alice Esther Talmey, because AET was born 1889.

There were several Alices born on 12/11/ 1891, in various places

malyon

malyon Report 11 Sep 2018 23:40

birth for a alice esther talmey

Births Dec 1889 (>99%)

Oh well done. Thank you so much. He was either greedy or very generous to claim dependents allowance for so many non blood related children.

Any chance of working out who Alice Breed 12/11/1891 is from the 1939 please?
From memory, the best fit for Annie Ethel Brown was about 1884, West Ham.

(Have just updated my last post to point out that Albert J Brown's DOB is the same as Albert James Breed's on Albert Breed's army record - ie - Albert J Brown with George E R Hudson in 1939.)

+++DetEcTive+++ Report 11 Sep 2018 18:28

Thank you, thank you, Argyllgran. That certainly seems to 'fit'.
Assuming husband no 1 died fairly soon after Arthur's conception, Albert Breed was quite quick to gain her affections.

After checking back, the source seems to have been from someone originally on Ancestry. We did correspond.

Although we all make mistakes, I'm relatively confident that she didn't get her wires crossed.

Re George E R Hudson -

This will be his parents' marriage:

Marriages Mar 1912 (>99%)
Brown Annie Hudson Edmonton 3a 695
Hudson Edward R Brown Edmonton 3a 695

Is this the same Annie ?

In 1939 there's an Albert J Brown (24/05/1916) living with George E R Hudson.

Same DOB as on Albert senior's army record.
