Thanks Chris - that looks like him.

If he joined the Royal Australian Navy in 1923 though, it would seem that his original arrival must have been much earlier.

I have sent some more info to his son in Australia and am awaiting his further reply.....

Hello - it's me again :-D

Does anyone have access to this record please it is apparently Frank's arrival in Australia:

Source Citations Attached to Arrival
Fremantle, Western Australia, Passenger Lists, 1897-1963

National Archives of Australia; Queen Victoria Terrace, Parkes ACT 2600.; Inward passenger manifests for ships and aircraft arriving at Fremantle, Perth Airport and Western Australian outports from 1897-1963; Series Number: K 269; Reel Number: 79

He was Frank Michael Selwood - born 14th May,1906 in Salford, Manchester.

I think he was in the Merchant Navy at that time but not certain of this ?

Thanks,

Just to let you know - I am SO excited - I have just received a reply from that Geni site which safc posted (thank you safc <3 <3 <3)

The reply was from one of Frank Michael's sons who I think lives in Australia.

He is very interested in researching his father's (Frank's) family in the UK so we have exchanged e-mail addresses and I hope to hear back from him soon with some photo's etc.

I am busy sorting out about 15 pages of notes and census details I have amassed over the past few days so that I can send it all to him in some sort of order.

It's going to be a busy day !

Will let you know how I get on.

Dea Xxx

EDIT - Correction - I thought I had 15 pages of notes to sort but have just printed them off onto 37 !!!!! pages......phewww !

I may be gone some time ;-) <3 <3

Thanks Chris.

Poor Lillie/Lily had a very hard life and I am becoming obsessed about finding out more about her.

She married my great uncle Arthur Massey in 1937 and I met her only once, probably sometime in the late 60's.

I used to visit my 'uncle Arthur' with my mum (he was 'her' uncle really'.

Uncle Arthur was a lovely 'gentle' man who loved to play the piano - he used to teach me little tunes on it and when he had to move to a small flat he left it to me.

He always lived on his own but on one visit there was a lady there - when I asked who she was I was told that she was my 'Aunty Lilian'. I think she was visiting for the day.

Apparently she had spent the majority of her married life in some sort of Institution (possibly Prestwich Asylum ?). She was not talked about further but I seem to remember something was once said about her 'going mad', and the possibility of them having had a child ??

I can find no evidence of a birth and all this is just speculation but I have always wondered if poor Aunty Lilian had miscarried a child or had a stillbirth and then suffered a severe Post Natal Depression which led her to being admitted to the Asylum. Sadly, Post Natal Depression was not really a recognised or treatable problem in those days and this sort of thing often happened.

I have a lovely photo of them together, probably just before their marriage but it is so sad to think that that each of them spent the rest of their lives alone.

He was a French Polisher !

7/11/1902 - Discharged on payment of £10 *** which I believe means he either 'bought himself out' or someone else paid the money to do this. He was only in for a couple of months.

It gives his next of Kin as mother - Emily Bentley which is this one:

Thank you Chris - I couldn't understand the connection on the last one ;-)

I have found LOADS of info on Minnie's family now I know I have the correct one.

Other trees I found all seemed to link her with the other Minnie b. c1875 but I knew that couldn't be correct - anyway I can now prove them wrong (if ever any of them decide to reply to my mails).

Many thanks for your help on this - and to safc, rootgatherer and Andrew <3 <3 <3
