Trying to find info on my relative, Whitwam

On his birth records it says Sir Joseph Whitwam, born in Huddersfield, parents Fred & Hannah Maria,
He had bother John, sisters Ida & Amy, he married Emma (nee) Castledine in 1924, he died in 1976
We have never found out how he came to get the title of Sir on his birth, wedding & death certificate.
Can any one help with any info please. :-)

this is the correct 1911 Census ......

...... interesting that there are apparently two families called Whitwam, with husbands called Fred / Alfred, and wives called Hannah Maria :-)

I have looked on Steve Whitwams site before, his is not the same family of Whitwams. If any one can help further into Sir Joseph Whitwams mothers or fathers side. There was a piece in a Huddersfield news paper in 1960s along with a photo of my aunt & uncle when o was at school, they lived in Longwood for all of their lives, so fare l've not managed to trace it. I would be greatful of any help thankyou :-)
