Please I cannot trace Elizabeth Greenhill born Rolvenden 1836 Father Alfred mother Rachel Exall. Mother died 1845 father buzzed off to France. Boys Alfred, Joseph and John went into workhouse (did well later) Mary 1834 went to father`s married sister Elizabeth Elliot and young Elizabeth went as a servant to the Howard family (curriers in Tenterden). Later Mary went as a.ladies maid and died a spinster in 1917 in East Grinstead.(Wesleyan on her gravestone) I can find no trace of ELIZABETH after 1851 census age 15 with the Howard family in Tenterden. Any ideas folks?

Could this be her in Scotland in 1871? She's a hospital matron.

Thanks ..if Elizabeth born 1836 cannot be her age 91 in 1861..so not that one.
I will look into the scottish one... age about right and "Robinson" Kent could be Rolvenden. Thanks

The 1861 could be the two of them together working for a baker and then they moved on..Mary to work as a ladies maid and Elizabeth to Scotland.

I will look further Thanks

How do I view the Scottish Records please?

Jacqueline

Jacqueline Report 25 Feb 2015 12:26

You'll need Scotlands People, which is a pay-to-view site

If Elizabeth went from no occupation in 1861 to Hospital Matron in 1871, it was a rapid rise!

MargaretM

MargaretM Report 25 Feb 2015 12:29

A tree on Ancestry says that that's her, a hospital matron in Scotland but I have my doubts. Surely a hospital matron would have been a nurse for years before becoming a matron?

rootgatherer Report 25 Feb 2015 16:54

Well, well, well! The one in Edinburgh is indeed your Elizabeth! I had some credits for Scotlandspeople so I'll try to send you her death registration by PM.

rootgatherer

rootgatherer Report 25 Feb 2015 17:08

For the benefit of the other helpers, Elizabeth died 28 January 1873. The names of her parents, including her mother's maiden surname are correct on the death registration. Her occupation is given as Matron of Sick Children's Hospital, Edinburgh. That was also her address at time of death. The informant was a Hospital Sister not a family member.

No problem Prickles. There were only 3 deaths for the correct age +/- 3 years and only one of them was in Edinburgh. And my curiosity was getting the better of me lol.

That's great, rootgatherer! So good of you! So much for my theory that it couldn't be her. I've been known to be wrong before, once ot twice.
