Just looked at the image again and it is indeed her sister rather than a hospital colleague.

That's great, rootgatherer! So good of you! So much for my theory that it couldn't be her. I've been known to be wrong before, once ot twice.

No problem Prickles. There were only 3 deaths for the correct age +/- 3 years and only one of them was in Edinburgh. And my curiosity was getting the better of me lol.

For the benefit of the other helpers, Elizabeth died 28 January 1873. The names of her parents, including her mother's maiden surname are correct on the death registration. Her occupation is given as Matron of Sick Children's Hospital, Edinburgh. That was also her address at time of death. The informant was a Hospital Sister not a family member.

Well, well, well! The one in Edinburgh is indeed your Elizabeth! I had some credits for Scotlandspeople so I'll try to send you her death registration by PM.

A tree on Ancestry says that that's her, a hospital matron in Scotland but I have my doubts. Surely a hospital matron would have been a nurse for years before becoming a matron?

If Elizabeth went from no occupation in 1861 to Hospital Matron in 1871, it was a rapid rise!

Thanks ..if Elizabeth born 1836 cannot be her age 91 in 1861..so not that one.

The 1861 could be the two of them together working for a baker and then they moved on..Mary to work as a ladies maid and Elizabeth to Scotland.

There is however a 90 year old Elizabeth Greenhill in Ashford in the 1861 census so the death could be her i.e.. the 90 year old not the Elizabeth you are looking for .............. and so it is - Kent Burials Transcription
